As I stated in my post, if that's not what you meant/intended, I retract. Therefore, I totally retract, with sincerest apologies.
I have re-read that post several times, and, to me anyway, although I see your point, it still could go either way...a little more clarification would have helped.
As far as referring to you as an "asshat", well, let's just say I'm an asshat for doing that to you. Name calling is never acceptable, and not something I normally do, and again, you have my sincerest apologies.
Let's just say, you can come across as a bit "gruff" sometimes...?
And, I now also realize I went against one of my own tenants around here...no political talk. Although I thought I was discussing the historical and entertainment value of a classic Disney film, I now realize there is no getting away from the political aspect of it. Big mistake on my part, because, as per usual, it never ends well.
In conclusion, when I'm wrong I never run and hide from it...I own it. I was very wrong on this with you, and again, my sincerest apologies to you.
Thank you, and be assured that what I put in that post was never, ever intended to imply that you or your family would have been part of that decision. People much older then you or your family, I wish I could say mine, made that decision and I just feel that it was not connected with the excuse that they gave for shelving it. I think it was a great movie, and depicted many of the feelings and stereotypes of the time when it was produced, but, never meant as an insult to anyone other then the bigots depicted in the film itself.

It is probably better, at least for now, that it be shelved, because like my post it, apparently, can be interpreted in many different ways. Some good, some bad. History is lost a lot of times due to whatever our prejudices happen to be. Perhaps, it might be better to keep it under wraps until we mature a little more as a society. Won't be soon I'm afraid. Fortunately, the ride did not really touch upon those sensitive areas and just focused on the hidden moral messages conveyed by Brer Rabbit and friends and the upbeat songs and music that are incorporated in it.

I think looking at stuff from the past you can find some pretty ugly things. A lot of that is why it is in the past and not around today. I also think that we as a species need to know where we came from in order to move forward. I try to view history through the lens of what was going on at the time. Not to try and justify things, merely to understand them. As George Santayana said over 100 years ago; "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I do have Song of the South. I bought it when my Mom told me that it was the basis for Splash Mountain after we rode it a few years ago and I wanted to see the story. I was kind of surprised about the setting and circumstances; I had no idea. I'm not a film critic and my opinion of the movie is only my opinion and not worth putting out there. The movie is what it is and we can't rewrite history. On a related note: I do seem to have recollections of seeing parts of the movie on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, back when I was a kid and dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Does anyone else remember that? (Of course it could just be dementia kicking in...;))

The food sounds delish! Did you eat at the sit-down restaurant inside? I'm trying to recall if Germany also had a QS as well.

They do, indeed. It's called Sommerfest.
But, I didn't see anything like what @ajrwdwgirl described on their menu. The Flower and Garden Festival is going on right now, so it was probably from a kiosk at the Germany pavilion.
Either way, it sounds delicious...! :hungry:

ETA...
Yep, those dishes can be had at Bauernmarkt: Farmer's Market, in the Germany pavilion. :)

No, your memory is correct. I don't think many parts of it were shown, but, the Zip A Dee Doo Dah part was on there often. The part where Uncle Remus was walking along the lane singing it and having "Bluebirds" land on his shoulder, cause it was the truth, it was actual and so on. Not much else that I recall though. The movie itself had a semi-happy ending, but, most of it was pretty dismal and troubling. (As most of Disneys movies tended to do.)

Yes definitely to the Ground hog Potluck!! :) Yep, Sox , Bears, Blackhawks! (Sorry!) I'm Irish Catholic, but didn't go to any of the St. Patty's Day festivities. Too many rowdy amateurs and I'm not really into corned beef and cabbage! ;)

THIS!
Instead of burying things they dont like and claiming it never existed, they should display them and say WHY that was wrong. To prevent them from happening again in the future.

Somerfest is the qs there. It sounds like she went to the F&G booth:joyfull:

Somerfest is still a pretty well hidden gem. As my kids were growing up many a Brat was had for dinner on a park bench. Or a nice big pretzel with a glass or two of liebfraumilch while waiting for Illuminations. Germany always had a nice seating area close to the water off the main walkway, great for little ones to burn off some steam, play with their glow toys and still be out of the way of guests in movement.

Well @figmentfan423 will be happy to have another at Ground Hog PotLuck! Growing up a Northsider I can only forgive the transgression of being a Sox Fan but we can bond over Bears of yesteryear and always my beloved BlackHawks, grew up watching them beat the snots out of other players.
