Not trying to be argumentative because neither of us have any say in whether or not it ever gets re-released, but, if I were a betting person I'd bet that it wouldn't happen in our lifetime. The very reaction that your family had to it is exactly why I have concluded that the reason it isn't public is because of what I said and it was influenced by those same type of people that were in the movie. The rich folks with the influence.

Yea, may not be released again in your lifetime, but, I have hope for mine.
WTH???
What kinda' financial position and upper tier of society do you think us and our children are in...?!?!?!
If you're actually comparing us to the "whities" in the movie, then you can go pound sand.
If not, I retract, but, sometimes you sure come across as a total asshat...

WTH... where did you get that I was comparing you to the whities in the movie. Seriously! I said that because todays generation understood what was going on (your family) that is why I felt that back in the 90's when the movie was shelved was not because it was offensive to blacks it was because it upset the whites, of the time, because it depicted them as cold, heartless and not to bright.

I'm a little upset that after all the posts that I have made on here you would even think that I would make that kind of comment about your family. I don't even know them for heavens sake. And if I did, I would have more class then to make such a statement. Re-read my post and see if it makes more sense to you now. Perhaps I do come across as an asshat to you, but, you are the one reading stuff into my statements. And I have never, ever called you an asshat mostly because I never considered you one. Thanks for the evaluation of me though.

I guess they are really expecting a huge boost in attendance for Pandora, Star Wars AND the 50th.

I'm sure Pandora will bring many guests into the park initially just like Everest originally brought in so many more guests. Still between Rivers which most need to drop a bucket of money for dining reservations to participate in a couple minute attraction, time will tell if these new items make the park a full day park. I'm reserving judgement but do wonder. StarWars might be enough to boost that 1/2 day park to a full day park.

Again, I don't agree with you on the premise of why it was "locked up" in the first place, but, it's still a great movie. I actually think recent generations would see it's worth for what it was at the time, and still is, to this day. They would have a more open mind in having a chance to make their own judgment, as opposed to having it censored. I have faith in the next generation, through our own children's beliefs and attitudes, although we don't always agree on everything...and, they have seen the movie when it was still available on YouTube. They got it (as I think many others of their generation would, given the chance), but, still enjoyed it for what it was at the time it was made. Our kiddos are some of the most caring, compassionate people you would ever meet. They get it, and DWifey and I are very proud of that...! :)
Kinda reminds me how Warner Bros have re released many of their old cartoons that could have been considered very rude by today standards. And all of them had warnings explaining so.
Reminds me of the whole overreacting of some groups about the "outrage" of making a minor character gay in a Disney movie.

My DD is still trying to convince herself to go onto grad school. The stupidity of some of it all has not yet slipped into distant memory.

Guess who has not seen the giraffe birth video!!! Somehow I don't think the giraffe wants to be on video.

Would you want your child birth to be broadcast to the world?

As a Mom of 2 I can't wrap my brain around this all. To me and my interpretation that giraffe just looked miserable. Yes any of us that gave birth are pretty miserable those last few weeks/days granted. But if someone locked me up in a room to wait it out I'd be like her too. I fail to grasp the whys. The way she just looks out her window makes me sad and I stopped peeking. Such a long time to be prego. But I too laughed at the CO giraffe that just gave birth without the aid of any vets interfering with the natural course of life. It did give me a great giggle too. :D

I'm probably one of the few people who have never seen it. I only heard about the name of the movie when I first joined the forums back in 2013. At one point, someone posted a link, and I saw the beginning of it; but I got distracted and didn't see the rest of it, at the time. So from what you're saying, it sounds like it's disappeared now.

Sorry. Just trying to catch up here. It is available on Amazon and Ebay obviously not 'real' vhs or dvd but worthy of a view. I saw it black marketed once. I was curious. It is actually a good piece of well produced history of how our country once was. I wholeheartedly agree with Disney's decision to shelf it and move on. Like Peta and Elephants and whales at Sea World, only takes a fraction of a percentage to make noise and hit headlines of the news media. It isn't different than books that are highly questionable and constantly come up at the book ban dilemma continuously. Arguably on the same plaine.

Yet I still do question in slightly more modern times, humanity that was far more refined, what could have prompted Disney in the 80's to create a wonderful yet highly questionable movie to frame Splash Mountain around? It could have been multiple film choices yet they chose the Song of the South. The whys? I do wonder what the green light on that build was. There had to be questioning right? Further to theme my most favorite resort around now Port Riverside, but in 1992 to go down the same route of Dixie Landings with Colonial photo prominent and all was a little late to the party of proper decorum. The whys again? I do wonder between the resort and the attraction who had free rein with all that. The country had long since tried to begin to heal.

But still I can't say I am disappointed with seeing the film once. I didn't care for it, IMO I was born in the wrong era to find entertainment in it and that what it was produced for. I find it equivalent to any holocaust film I've seen. Ugly history. History but not pleasant and nothing to be proud of or find entertaining nor something I would have thought appropriate for Disney to consider a thrill attraction theme. For that I appreciate Disney renaming Dixie Landings and removing all the books, cups etc. from Splash Mountains original gift shop along with Riversides. Still it was all stock and sold during my children's childhood through the beginning of the 21st century and for that I think Disney missed the sensitivity vs profit boundaries. I can't see any reason for Disney to continue to profit on that type of history. Still I can appreciate those who wish to see the film once to grasp the darker side of Disney films of yesteryear even from black market source and see the boundaries Disney was the willing to attempt to bring it back for another round. That to me is the more current event history. What a corporation is willing to do for the sake of profit vs seeing the light and distancing themselves from their choices. The only thing I miss is the connect the dots in why the resort theme and the mountain was green lit to take on the theme of the Song of the South. Likely will never know but I wish I understood.

We got the potato pancake with ham and the curry wurst in Germany today. It was good! I got the beer flight there, one of three I had today, it was good except for the lemon beer. That tasted like how lemon pledge smells. I took one sip and that was enough, the other two beers on that flight were tasty.

The food sounds delish! Did you eat at the sit-down restaurant inside? I'm trying to recall if Germany also had a QS as well.
