I'm stuck inside again todayThere's still too many wires on some of the roads and detours. I'm not sure how all the school buses made it yesterday and today. At least I managed to get a project started today

I won't but I kinda think she already knows!!Ok DH on the way home so need to fix lunch. Have a great weekend!!!
Upon landing here in Austin after our July of '12 WDW trip, we taxied past AF1 off in the distance sitting near some auxiliary hangers in a secure area. President Obama was in town for a campaign event.
It was kinda' cool to see.
Also, back in '84, one of the space shuttles (either Challenger or Discovery) was piggybacking on the 747 from Edwards AFB Back to KSC, and made a pit stop her at Bergstrom AFB (now our international airport).
We saw it pretty much fly right over our office from the parking lot on it's landing approach.
Now, to me anyway, that was way cooler than seein' AF1...!![]()

I already have my flower and garden festival snacks to try. I'm spending the most money in Germany again. Not going til May
I love the garden stone Mickey that they have at the festival.
What you saw back in '84 was very impressive. I've only seen the film footage on tv when they had the space shuttle piggybacking on the 747. That was jaw-dropping time for me. I can't even imagine looking UP and actually seeing that fly over??!!! WOW!!![]()
I'm sure it was just the meds speaking, the rest of us know better![]()
I have a copy of it as well, and even though they use the excuse that it was a very stereotypical depiction of Blacks after the Civil War, that is not why it disappeared in my opinion. What really made it the "bast**d child was the fact that it depicted rich, white people as self centered, bigoted, dysfunctional and just plain mean. The hero of the movie is one old Black gentleman that had more wisdom in his little finger then all of the rich folks, up on the hill, had combined. The use of the Brer Rabbit stories as told my Uncle Remus was the message in the story. It was how this old black man was able to reach a young, unhappy white child, whose parents were soon to split up and how to overcome sadness and anger so that it didn't turn into bitterness and hate. It taught lessons of hope, courage and even the consequences of actions that were not morally on the high ground.
It has been perfectly spun since then that it was an insult to African Americans when quite the opposite is the truth. It is very much a compliment to them for their wisdom and ability to know right from wrong in contrast to the self-righteous white folks and in spite of the way they had been treated in the land they never asked to come too.
I had a weird bond with Gran. When I was small I lived in Chicago in an old Irish neighborhood. Families stayed put back then but about the time I was born there was a drastic turn and the area I lived became more dangerous-ie. We lived in the house next to Grans where my Aunt lived with my never married Aunt and my Uncle lived in the flat above Grans house with his wife and my two boy cousins about my age. I think I was her one shot at delivering her skills to another generation 'cause my aunt had zero interest in cooking. Gran didn't like my sister as a baby let alone later so as an adult I'm thinking she taught me her skills, to sew and to cook and a bit of her frugal ways. She passed when I was in high school but I think she looks down thinking her efforts were a success. I hope.

Thanks @MinnieM123 seeing the plane was cool. But it is smaller than one would think. There is a huge Air Force (I think) plane that accompanies it and that dwarfs it. I have been able to see it twice. Once in Minneapolis and now here. As figgy said the traffic can be a nightmare because of it, in was in Minneapolis prob
Epcot this morning. With the early flight yesterday we didn't think that we would be able to do that early opening in animal kingdom today. We are going to go to the Magic Kingdom tonight maybe even traders Sam's. We did start today with some Mickey waffles.
Minnie I'm sure the kapono would wave back to Jack and my sisters taking care of her and I packed extra treats for thanks for the concern

These days you are correct, but, back when it was permanently locked up was a whole different ballgame. After making a big fuss about how SotS was offensive to African Americans, they can't very well put it back out there now, can they? Better to let it stay locked away. It would never hit the billion dollar in sales number required now anyway. We'll agree to disagree on your interpretation of why it's pretty much disappeared then, because rich, self-centered, bigoted, dysfunctional, and just plain mean, white people are far from shied away from in any communicative medium these days. Quite the opposite, actually IMHO.
As far as your description of Uncle Remus and his stories, and his common sense, sensitivity, compassion, reasoned thinking, and intelligence, we totally agree.
On another note, from what I've read anyway, Walt and James Baskett (Uncle Remus) remained pretty good friends over the years.![]()

Not trying to be argumentative because neither of us have any say in whether or not it ever gets re-released, but, if I were a betting person I'd bet that it wouldn't happen in our lifetime. The very reaction that your family had to it is exactly why I have concluded that the reason it isn't public is because of what I said and it was influenced by those same type of people that were in the movie. The rich folks with the influence.Again, I don't agree with you on the premise of why it was "locked up" in the first place, but, it's still a great movie. I actually think recent generations would see it's worth for what it was at the time, and still is, to this day. They would have a more open mind in having a chance to make their own judgment, as opposed to having it censored. I have faith in the next generation, through our own children's beliefs and attitudes, although we don't always agree on everything...and, they have seen the movie when it was still available on YouTube. They got it (as I think many others of their generation would, given the chance), but, still enjoyed it for what it was at the time it was made. Our kiddos are some of the most caring, compassionate people you would ever meet. They get it, and DWifey and I are very proud of that...!![]()
We got the potato pancake with ham and the curry wurst in Germany today. It was good! I got the beer flight there, one of three I had today, it was good except for the lemon beer. That tasted like how lemon pledge smells. I took one sip and that was enough, the other two beers on that flight were tasty.
