We went to Jungle Cruise Skipper Canteen for dinner tonight. We'd been in August, and I had the noodle bowl, which I thought was good. I got it again tonight. They must've changed it, because it was BAD. I mean, it was horrible. O ended up sending it back because it was turning my stomach. I told the waiter that the spices were just wrong for the dish. They ended up taking it off the bill, and I came back and got a burger from the Mara. I've never sent a meal back for being just plain bad, and I felt pretty horrible doing it, but it was just not good.

It's quite a shame because they've built this huge restaurant that has some of the better theming, not to mention a wonderful staff, but the food was just not good. They have three dining rooms, and it was mostly empty. But I will say their bread is some of the best around.

But for now, I would say that basically any other place is a better choice. They really need to rework their menu.

Canteen seems to struggling just like the Plaza is along with BOG. All three have rewritten their menus and are so hit or miss. With all the wonderful Chefs out there you would think they could get their acts together. Even reading the trip reports with folk that go fairly regularly to WDW they are noting the inconsistencies or hit the three strike and won't return again for a while. I've felt the same way about Tony's for a couple of decades. There are so many over the top wonderous chefs that specialize in Italian fare...you'd think Disney could locate ONE. :cautious:

We doing so, but hilariously... its a facepalm and eyeroll fest.
We've caught my grandmah trying to walk and standing up. but when she notices someone is around, she fakes being still in pain. she just loves the attention and the care
Curious. How old is Grandmah. Maybe my Dad is sending down suggestions from heaven on how to frustrate the heck out of your family 'cause she is not what you use to be. For the last decade and more frequently so the last 5 years my Dad became a PIA. Yeah ya love them but jeepers. I'd watch my Dad struggle to walk, use two canes or a walker or more dramatic-put the palms of his hands on the wall like he was being frisked by the police and inch his way from room to room moaning and groaning sighting pain and fear of falling. Lots and lots of drama. But I could see him in the kitchen and the back of the house from the front. I'd watch him set the walker aside and go back and forth between cabinets, freezer and back again. Make a ice cream soda and forget about the walker, take the soda to back room without canes, walkers or touching a wall nor spilling the soda. Then walk back pick up the walker and bring it to the back room where he was having his ice cream soda. He was a master at it. The 20 minutes later he come back to the front of the house like as if he was going to fall any second. It got old and difficult to have empathy for his aging. I'll keep you and your Mom in my Prayers.

Interesting time ahead this year. My mother did another one of her incredible stunts and managed to fall over her own crutches and plant on the floor about a week ago. This weeks visit to the Dr has seen her put in line for a hip replacement. Seems like it's her turn for the injury this year.

I'm sorry. Poor her. The upside is the new techniques over the last couple years has really cut the recovery time in hip replacements. Though as you can tell my Dads hip surgery went perfectly he just didn't want anyone to know that. I hope it goes well for your Mom and I will keep her in my prayers.

Airlines do have a few planes in standby. But obviously they cant cover all delays or damages.. because they are rare.
Plus they have CODESHARES to offload to other airlines too.

Your car.. I dont think that kinda works.. because you're not a corporation losing missions for just losing your car temporarily :p
And if you really depended your life on it, you could rent a car, get a taxi or a uber.
;)

Having worked at Ohare for many years for a major airline I never saw the spare planes you speak of. Aircraft only make a profit when they are flying a route. Investing in airplanes just lay in wait for something to happen at all the airports around the country & world, the costs of spare planes would be over the top. That is why you see long delays or cancellations of flights when there are mechanical problems. Sometimes they will move passengers to another aircraft and then cancel off the planned flight for those passengers that were to use that plane. Codeshares cannot absorb a flight's worth of passengers. It can accommodate only a small fraction of a standard commercial plane from a major airline. Yeah they can possibly take 10 passengers from a puddle jumper but not a DC10 planned from Chicago to Orlando. That is why it can take days to rebook flights when things go wrong like back last year with TSA slowdowns. There were not open seats to codeshare.

As for me and my business, no I am not a corporation but I am an LLC Company so I'm not sure where you are going with that.

I cannot use a taxi or an uber. I could rent a car for personal use but not for my business. They'd never allow me to use their vehicles in that manner.

Curious. How old is Grandmah.
She's 95.

Anyway, the doctor just gave us a temporal answer.
There is the possibility that her body has been starting to reject the double implant. Just making the her joints weaker near the hips.
If this happens, the doctor said the only solution would be another surgery. But at 95.. no way!
So we're going to see what happens. Because he also said (the doctor) that it could be just inflammation and general muscular pain for the fall. Anyway...if needed, We'll buy her a chair with wheels.
Right now we're using a computer chair (heavy duty that I used to duty), it has a 8 wheels. So we can move her around to the bathroom.

So whatever happens, will happen on due time.

O'hare is the base for what airlines?
I know that Continental used to have a few standby planes in Houston international airport.
And I've seen a few ones in hangars ready to go at Forth Worth.

I agree with you that they do not have MANY planes, because they cost more to have then grounded.
After all, We know that most companies nowadays always fly with the "better efficiency" with "as maximum risk the law allows" (as per Lawyers do dictate the minimum security standards) to keep costs down and profits up. Hence why most of them are repaired on site to try to make them fly as soon as possible.

And I'm also pretty sure its the same with the factory you mention on molded pieces. They probably had an army of accountants telling them if its better to slowdown/cutdown of production with impacted molds than having spares ones lying around.

Thats actually my point. You as an employee can switch to a Uber, Taxi or Rent while your car gets fixed. Technically your work does not heavily affect the stability or productivity of the business right?

Because I know there are some positions where they have to dish a reasonable price to keep them working as expected in one way or another.

just read that O'hare is American Airlines hub and Air Choice

Nope. Private sector job. Back to the salt mines...! ;)

Yep. Private sector jobs are not required to do diddly. Kinda the premise of the movie Scrooge where even Christmas came into play.

The company that I worked for that had the best company benefits for vacation, personal days and holidays was German owned. When MLK Day became a Federal Holiday they just added it to the list which already included Veterans Day. I thought Veterans Day was kinda cute given we were a German company.

Now I can take any dang day off I want. It is my business and I can do as I please. Downside if I don't put in the time I'm not generating revenue. Makes ya think twice. :joyfull:

You are not following so you are still missing the point. No I cannot use an Uber, Taxi or Renta a Car for my business. Yes I can use them for personal use. I am not an employee I am an LLC and a sole proprietor. A car, taxi or rent a car does not replace my business vehicle purpose and no rent a car or uber or taxi would allow me to retrofit their vehicles for my needs so your suggestions do not fit my business model. I'm not the only type of business that needs specifics. You can't use an ice cream truck to take a cow to market, you can't substitute a Private Ambulance for a Cement truck etc. Business needs do vary. Not all businesses fit into the small demographic of vehicles as in a taxi, uber or rent a car or because my business is a LLC vs a Corporation.

I yield to your expertise as far as Texas goes. Our passengers were not allowed in the hangers at Ohare, passengers never know if the planes in hangars were there for maintenance, emergency repair, deep cleaning etc., passengers were not privy to that status of 'ready to go' or not of planes within the hangers. It wasn't public information. Texas airports obviously operate differently than Ohare and that is all I can speak to. Here the hangers are out on the secured restricted areas. If a passenger went out onto the tarmac to get status of aircrafts in the hanger they wouldn't need a plane, they'd be in jail.

We've basically stopped going to Tony's. I know other people have said BOG is hit or miss, but it's basically always been a hit for us, so now we go there every trip. They have pretty good French onion soup there. The slow cooked pork is also always good. They got rid of their mac and cheese, which was fantastic (but I have the recipe). Some of the other dishes can definitely be a miss, but it's my favorite MK restaurant. Not that MK sets very high standards. I know a lot of the complaints stem from the desserts. I personally like the cupcakes, but then again, I'm not a dessert person at all, so I'm usually happier with a cookie or cupcake than something fancy. I had a waitress at Jiko tonight look at me like I was nuts when I said that (although the food allergies definitely play a role in not doing dessert; sometimes I can't have half of what's on there). We've decided that we'll gice Jungle Cruise Canteen one more chance in August. After that, they will have to do a serious revamp of the menu for us to go back.

Yeah. I'm not a dessert person at meals anyhow. More a savory person. I love BOG Braised dish. Beyond that I have not been impressed with the food more the surroundings. It is so pretty. Still it is loud and congested and always seems to be up for grabs. It sure has its pro's and cons but one thing for sure, it is not consistent.

On a whole from what I've seen Tony's survives by the Disney Discription from those who do not know better with few exceptions.

I never said it was going to "replace" your business car.
I said as IN TEMPORARILY (aka to dont let you stranded with no car and not be able to move around). As in a temp car while yours get fixed. Unless you intended to buy instantly another car or let your business drop while your car gets fixed.

I cant believe for something a simple talk about efficiency, risk cost.. we had to move a conversation about YOUR personal car. (Pss, when you said LLC I never imagined it was YOUR personal business. Specially since I was talking about CORPORATIONS)

anyway lets agree to disagree.

Oh, poor poober, :( sorry you don't have off Monday. I work in a hospital and we (office staff personnel, some medical staff, too) have it off--this hospital is also private sector--not a state run one, for example.

The only thing that ticks me off about where I work is that they don't give us Veterans Day, which I think is wrong. Guess they had to limit the number of holidays they give out, but I just thought that the omission of Veterans Day was disrespectful to all; and I would have preferred that they "traded" off a different one for that--even Columbus Day, as one example.

Walt loved to sit on my DD. It was as if he was saying if I sit on you you can't get up and leave, you'll just have to keep paying attention to me.

Yah, it's a control thing. Dogs love to sit on you, lean on you, and get in your face. That's just how the critters are, and I'm used to it. But I draw the line when Jack farts -- even the whole neighborhood leaves town . . .

Do you not control what he eats?
I really didn't ever think it was a complete matter of what they eat, but, how they specifically digest it. Which, by the way, is almost as gross to talk about as Tofu. Anyway, it's to bad that society gets so uptight about something the every single living creature does out of necessity. In the immortal words of "Shrek". "Better out then in".;):)
