OK question about bread. If you look back decades and decades ago people had bread boxes that they put loaves of bread in. Anyone know what that was about. I know one of my Grans had one.

Over the summer builders knocked down a home near me. One separate square section of basement foundation aside from the additional rectangle foundation was a shelter foundation, the freak'n walls and ceiling, floor were over 2 feet of solid concrete. Builder had no idea until them were demo'ing it. It took them forever and a day to remove the concrete, such a difficult time breaking it up with other structures in the vicinity.

I've seen cupcakes in a can and cakes in a can. Guess-more popular that bread in a can? It was popular to send to college students. Funny since many college students were happy to receive until they realized they didn't have a can opener to free the cake.
Yup, shelters were a big thing in the late 50's to early 60's. I think I said before that the entrance to Plattsburgh Air Force Base ran right along side our house. The base housed a fleet of B-52's armed with Nukes. Those of us living in the city didn't have any shelters because we were on the first line of attack over the North Pole. A shelter to us would just amount to a family cooking container or a flight vehicle if a bomb hit. We didn't bother, just kept our fingers crossed.

I had one up until a few years ago. It was were you stored bread or pastries. It kept them in the dark and was said to preserve the shelf life a few days. Also a handy place to hide it away. I use the refrigerator now and it keeps the stuff fresh much longer. I had no basis of comparison so I don't really know if it kept it longer or not. It seemed to work, but, just leaving it out on the counter might have done the same thing.

$50 and no takers! They are crazy, I would do that for $50, I would even shovel for $25. Although, I like snow shoveling. I know I'm weird, I don't like cold or snow much but I don't mind shoveling at all.

In Colorado, you think they would need their pot money. I remember a couple winters ago when Boston got 100 inches of snow (we only got 70) shoveling/snow blowing 4 or 5 driveways almost every storm.

Yes, I went there.

We tried to pay some teens to shovel. They weren't interested. I offered 50.00$, which I thought was reasonable. I got no takers. We don't have a long driveway. And I offered hot chocolate as well....Nope....We live in a crazy neighborhood. That was several years ago, when I had a back injury.
a lot of kids are kinda lazier now, and prefer to do online jobs.

I also keep bread in the refrigerator, even though supposedly it goes stale faster, but that hasn't been the case for me.
