That is very disappointing. Granted, it was many years ago when my brothers would seek out snow shoveling jobs--they'd walk up and down the streets with their shovels and make a few dollars at various houses. I can guarantee you they would not turn down $50 today. Makes me wonder about the kids in your area--guess none of them are hungry . . . :cautious: (Also, my brothers would shovel for an elderly neighbor for just hot cocoa, as that was all she had to offer them. They accepted willingly, and never took a dime from that woman. My brothers were far from saints, but they were decent, hard-working kids.)
I think we live in an affluent area. Kids don't need money, and God forbid they might have to work for it.

I'm an airhead. Seeing we all went out today I turned off the heat in the bedrooms and then accidently forgot to leave it on elsewhere so when we got home the house was freezing:facepalm: It's finally almost decent:)

Sounds like hot chocolate time!!!

We all have tomorrow blocked off for decorating, cooking and maybe if all goes well some wrapping, if not at least a Christmas movie after the tree is up:joyfull:

And this sounds like a perfect day. What Christmas movie? I have the Santa Clause on right now. It was either that or White Christmas but I've already watched WC 3 times this season, so I picked one I haven't watched.:)

We tried to pay some teens to shovel. They weren't interested. I offered 50.00$, which I thought was reasonable. I got no takers. We don't have a long driveway. And I offered hot chocolate as well....Nope....We live in a crazy neighborhood. That was several years ago, when I had a back injury.

$50 and no takers! They are crazy, I would do that for $50, I would even shovel for $25. Although, I like snow shoveling. I know I'm weird, I don't like cold or snow much but I don't mind shoveling at all.

Oh I'm sure the parties are fun for some people...but I'm more of an introvert. Those parties just tire me out, and they are SO expensive to throw. If I'm going to spend that much on something, it better be something I really enjoy to make it worth it, and for me, that's not a huge party. My brother would want the party. He loves being the center of attention and the life of the party. I'm the wallflower who sits in a corner and enjoys the music, and I might even dance, but please don't put me in the spotlight!

I wouldn't want a big party either. I thought about throwing a party for hubby's 40th, as he enjoys that stuff. But the ladies at church decided to throw him a surprise party after church a couple weeks before his birthday. They pulled it off too, they sent out postcards to all the church members and everyone kept it a secret. Hubby was so shocked, I could tell he had no idea. The ladies were so pleased that they were able to surprise him. The only thing that got him somewhat suspicious was when my sister and brother-in-law walked into church (they hadn't ever been there before), but their daughter (my niece) had been at our house for a couple days. So when he looked curious about them being in church I told him they just decided to come pick her up instead of us driving her back home.

O.k. So I've offered two cakes in the past half hour. Anyone else need a cake today? :hilarious:

Need? No I don't need a cake; want...now that's a different story. Cake yes please!

Quick cake story....our art teacher had the students recently do word art projects and she hung them up. Guess what word art project is near my door.....Eat Cake. So every time I walk towards my classroom, this is the message I get. It makes me hungry!

Thanks. It was yesterday. The big 4-0. :p (age doesn't bother me at all...I don't understand why some people dread it. I don't feel any different than I did at 20, except maybe a bit wiser.)

Happy Anniversary! 28 years...that's something! In this day and age, 28 years says a LOT! Have you got big plans?
It didn't bother me at all the when I turned 40... that same 28 years ago. Just so you know, mentally you never do feel any different and you aren't old enough yet for your body to attempt to correct you. It will some day, but, you will have to fight your brain over it. The brain is a mule and doesn't let go easy.

I know I did, but, it was a long, long time ago and I really do not remember what it was like. I would have been a pre-teen at that time. If they still sell it, it would be great for long term storage. It probably came out during the cold war days when everyone was building and stocking fallout shelters.

Over the summer builders knocked down a home near me. One separate square section of basement foundation aside from the additional rectangle foundation was a shelter foundation, the freak'n walls and ceiling, floor were over 2 feet of solid concrete. Builder had no idea until they were demo'ing it. It took them forever and a day to remove the concrete, such a difficult time breaking it up with other structures in the vicinity.

I've seen cupcakes in a can and cakes in a can. Guess-more popular that bread in a can? It was popular to send to college students. Funny since many college students were happy to receive until they realized they didn't have a can opener to free the cake.

That what you get when the parents are ATM's for their kids. They are never taught that they have to earn their keep. I would have cleaned a driveway with a teaspoon for that kind of money. They just need to hire somebody with a pickup and a plow to at least take out the bulk of the snow. Set it up so that they show up every time without having to be called. It would save a lot of anxiety.
