I don't think my school had any Veteran's Day programs when I was growing up. Maybe we did something like coloring pictures in elementary but nothing that I can remember in middle or high school. Our band instructor, where I currently teach, is pretty big on honoring the Vet's so she organizes a nice program at our Middle/High School and the elementary. The community is invited to attend either ceremony and we usually get a decent crowd of community members.

It's funny the variety of things done at schools...my daughter's middle school has a big program with the band playing and vets coming out to be honored, but 10 miles away at my high school it was suggested (by myself and another teacher) to have a similar type program and we were told that there didn't need to be 'another assembly that took kids out of classes for no reason.' No reason??

Wait! I managed to hop on for the first time in a few weeks just in time for a music discussion?? How fortuitous! Except that guitar is one of the weakest links in my musical repertoire. Although I spent 4 years playing bass in a classic rock/oldies band, keyboard and brass instruments are really where I live. I had a nice Yamaha dreadnought-style acoustic that gathered a lot of dust and got me to learn about 6 chords and how to barre. Donated it to 'that school' where I used to teach a few years back. Now I'm missing it!

Hahaaa...!
The next one I want is a 12-string. Such a beautiful, full sound.
I was in a mom and pop guitar store I used to frequent years ago (unfortunately, long since closed), and was havin' some fun on a 12-string, when the owner came over, grabbed another 12-string, and a stool next to me, and started playing "Here Comes the Sun"...nothing but chills...he played that guitar and song sooo beautifully...!!! :)

Had a student years ago who brought in his grandfather's 12-string which had been gathering dust for years and asked me to get it in tune for him. I did, but then let him know that it would likely only stay in tune for less time than it took me to tune it. They are so beautiful sounding, but really are a bear to keep in tune!

My personal favorite version of "Here Comes the Sun" (excepting the original) -

Yep, the high E and B strings are same gauge and are tuned same note, same octave, and the other 4 strings are different gauges and tuned same note 1 octave apart. A bear indeed, but, some of the sweetest musical sounds I've ever heard...! :inlove: :)

There is an upscale neighborhood here that we design a lot of houses in that, for the last several years, has required all homes to have fire sprinklers.
A very hilly area, so water pressures, pipe diameters, etc., have to be tested and approved.
So, if your stuff doesn't get all burned up, it now gets completely destroyed by soaking water instead. :cyclops: ;)

-"Will the house be destroyed with the fire?"
-"No, We have the best fire suppression springer system."
-"So I'm safe from damage?"
-"Hardly, the anti fire system can take down an aircraft carrier.. but at least it wont catch fire!"
:hilarious:
