Me, I love to read and reread Erma Bombeck books. I can relate and continue to make me laugh.

Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died.

When your mother asks, "Do you want a piece of advice?" it is a mere formality. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no. You're going to get it anyway.

Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart.

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.

Thanks to my mother, not a single cardboard box has found its way back into society. We receive gifts in boxes from stores that went out of business twenty years ago.

I think it's time we women stopped carrying supplies for the entire family. If children don't have room to carry their own toys, if men don't have pockets in their pants, tougho.

I never leaf through a copy of National Geographic without realizing how lucky we are to live in a society where it is traditional to wear clothes.

:inlove:
So funny. We ran out of boxes on Christmas Eve, for the youngest grandson. I had a mac and cheese box. Took out the contents, and wrapped his box with a game inside. He saw the box on Christmas day, didn't open it, when he saw what it was. He was very nice thanking us for mac and cheese (he does love it), so funny. I told him to open the box....boy was he surprised! And very happy. We realized at that point he is the sweetest little guy, ever!

It was very common in my family to reuse boxes to wrap presents. Not so common in Hubby's family so he was a little confused his first Christmas with us and one of his presents was in a saltine cracker box.

Well this evening one of my DD lifeguards went down for the Cubs celebration today. She wished she had not, said she was miserable. Said everywhere she went bodies were smooshed chest to back with other fans wherever they were. Hard to see, hard to hear, hard to take a breath.

Kinda why we opted not to go. Millennium Epcot NYE was interesting, glad I did it, but would never do it again. Seems this Cubs celebration would have left me just as claustrophobic. Happy for all those who went to celebrate with our Cubs though. Certainly not lacking in fan support or love.
I can totally relate, Denver has had a Christmas lighting celebration for the Christmas parade, we have never attended. Too many people, and if it's warm, it's crazy. I watch on T.V. from the comfort of my chair with candles burning, and fire place. Homemade fudge. Now , that's a celebration!

Our tree is just a bit big for our living room, blinking colored lights and packed with lots of ornaments. If it was up to me we'd have a slightly smaller tree, white lights and tasteful ornaments in rose and ivory with touches of silver and gold. I'd also like a second tree in the dining room for the Disney ornaments.
We always do a white tree. That has been my choice for years. I love silver and white. So pretty.

For me, it's not so much the work, prep, cleanup, etc. involved, but when my parents passed away years ago, at least my siblings were still around. So we all would have dinner at my place or my sister's. But then my brothers both moved away, so it was just my sister, myself and hubby. It just wasn't the same at that point, and I kept frustrating myself to "recreate" the sort of idyllic, Norman Rockwell family tradition portrait.

Finally, I gave in to the fact that it would never be the same without my parents and brothers to join us, so I suggested to hubby and my sister that we just go out to eat, and create a "new" tradition. It was awkward the first time we did it, but now we love it. And, we often don't have turkey, either. We've had prime rib, lobster, and other delicious entrees the past few years! :hungry: ;)
I want to do that so much. I love the time at the kids house, but it is so much work, and they are very busy. They won't let us bring much any more. I kind of feel like it would be so much better for them it we went out. And I wouldn't feel guilty.

Mine is It's A Wonderful Life. I'll only watch it in black and white. My other favorite is the Muppets Christmas Carol. We have a boc of Christmas movies but no matter how busy we are we always watch those 2 together as a family. Now where did I put the box of holiday movies? Better go look for it this weekend.
I cry when I watch It's a wonderful life. I go for laughter these days! Call me sentamental old fool!
