Hubby was pretty excited this morning. I went to bed at the rain delay so I didn't know the outcome. Although at one point maybe about 3:30 am I woke and thought " well I didn't hear hubby yell so maybe the Cubs lost" and I went back to sleep. Turns out when they won hubby grabbed a pillow to muffle his shouts of joy the ran out to his car to continue shouts of joy and phone calls so he wouldn't wake me up. :)

Sorry about your loss @MOXOMUMD i think both teams did a great job and played with a lot of heart, just the way it should be.

As if we didn't have enough reasons already to like your hubby!! That was so considerate of him to muffle his excitement (in a pillow) over the team's big win! Then, he went outside to his car to continue the fun, by calling friends--while not disturbing your sleep indoors. Said it before and I'll say it again--you've got a KEEPER in that wonderful hubby of yours!!! :inlove: :joyfull: :joyfull:

Okay, I can finally go to bed. Congratulations Cubs. And congratulations Indians for winning the AL side. Great season for both teams.

As I've mentioned before, I don't watch baseball, or any big league sports, but I can appreciate teams that work hard, and can play their sport well. I'm really digging the excitement of so many people over the game yesterday. (My hubs also explained to me what huge deal this was for the Cubs to win.) :cat:

The onslaught of Christmas commercials have started.

:depressed: Too early . . . and not that anyone cares, but I'll share this anyway. When I was growing up, we used to love watching TV on Thanksgiving (after the big meal), and getting excited by all the brand new Christmas commercials. They would debut on Thanksgiving. Then, the day after, (Friday) we'd go into the city's big downtown shopping area with all the departments stores, and gaze at all the beautifully decorated Christmas windows. I have such happy memories.

Now, they push holiday commercials much sooner, and most of them aren't nearly as pleasant as before. And, just today, someone told me that Kohls was having some sort of pre-Black Friday sale thing today (something like 64 pages of stuff online). Jeepers, it's only November 3rd. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind picking up presents for people during the year if I just happen to see something nice. I don't do all my shopping around Thanksgiving, by any means. But I just kinda miss the older traditions. And hot chocolate . . . and candy canes.

What a blissful day it has been to be an Illinoisan. Sure fans are a bit groggy today but nobody is cranky-everyone is having so much fun. The fireworks and singing went on into the wee hours of the morning. While I've seen this type of celebrations with our other teams over the years when they win a championship, this is different. That over 100+ years, the legend that has lived on for decades about the Billy Goat, it has all been kinda magical. Seems every conversation had today involved the Cubs.

The celebration and parade is tomorrow starting in Wrigleyville. The players are going to beloved by their fans for a long long time. :inlove:

That was my childhood too. My Mom would take us to Downtown Chicago to visit Santa, look at Windows and buy a few Christmas outfits and shoes. There wasn't really much in the way of malls when I was small. You'd shop in the closest larger city. 6 weeks ago Macy's had all their trees up displaying ornaments for sale this year. Bluck.

I love Christmas but now I'm kinda done with it before it arrives. My stuff is down generally by NY Day. The entire calendar is off now. We get Halloween in August, Christmas in September, shorts and bathing suits in February and winter coats and boots in June. I tried to buy a pair of flip flops in August. Nope.

There are times when I wish I had that gene that would allow me to become an absolute fool when a sports team or individual wins something. I cannot even get that excited if I personally am the one to win. Then there are other times when it is just more fun to watch others and shake my head in wonderment. Can't understand it and, at my age, probably never will. I've watched my SIL throw things, break golf clubs, scream at the TV, get thrown out of the park at his son's games for yelling at the refs. Simply, in my mind, act like a fool. Don't understand it at all.

For my husband being a Cubs fan is a connection to his family. His family were all Cubs fans (except for a lone uncle that was a White Sox fan). Hubby grew up watching games with his dad at home and at Wrigley, it was one of their shared joys. So every time he goes to Wrigley he is reminded of all the good times he shared with his family by watching these games. Neither of his parents are alive any more, his dad passed when my husband was 16 so being so joyful about the Cubs is more than just rooting for the team it is a shared passion with his family. It really is no different than how I feel (and many people on this board feel) about going to WDW. Although I do agree with you that throwing things and getting thrown out of games for poor behavior is a little overboard and that isn't how my husband acts at all.

I agree it was fun as a kid to have the excitement of Christmas after Thanksgiving. Now as an adult I like to get my shopping out of the way so I can enjoy the season and not have stress over my most favorite time of year. Since we are going to Disney over the time I would normally decorate for Christmas I have to decide if I should decorate early or after. I think I will be starting my Christmas decorating soon, then when I come home from the "christmas at Disney" I can relax into Christmas at home too.

Didn't think it was and my comments were not directed toward your husband at all. I was expressing my inability to relate or understand what exactly give a person that emotion. I didn't ever mean to imply that routing for ones favorite team is foolish, it is just a reaction that I do not share for whatever reason and would feel foolish reacting that way.

The biggy would be that my dad was not a sports fan of any sort. He didn't follow anything, be it, baseball, football, basketball, golf or any sport you care to mention. We never played catch or went to games. So no shared memories at all. I suspect that is a large part of the reason why I am not into the celebratory responses to a ball game. I have some favorites, but, I am a curse for whomever I want to win. They never do. When I found out that my SIL and Grandson wanted the Cubs to win. I told them that I was going to route for the Indians and then they would have a reason to celebrate at the end. They did! The truth be known, I really wanted the Cubs to win too and felt that the only way they could would be if I routed for the other team. (a bit of an exaggeration, but, it always works out that way.)

I just can't get my head around anyone getting that excited over rounders ;)
Not like it's NASCAR or similar :D

That's OK, it was always 'our' National Pastime not the Worlds. Me, I could never wrap my brain around Soccer-Futbol  Can't say I've ever watch a USA Championship Soccer Tournament. :bored:

No problem, I understand. I didn't grow up watching a lot of sports either, my family wasn't too into it. But I'm obsessed with Disney because my family was into it. I guess everyone has their own little obsession. I was just trying to point out that his reaction was based more on love of the team and family:)
