I hate when that happens. Our road behind the house was one tiny lane. No development. Now, it's houses everywhere the eye can see. And strip malls and malls everywhere. I personally hate it. Usually we move when this starts happening, we couldn't this time, the housing market was very depressed, for "used" homes. New homes were going like hot cakes...

Around here with the new lending laws New Construction is out of reach for many, it is more the used market that is happening in our county.

What is it about McMansions??!! I've also seen areas (not as overall rural as yours) where there might be the only farmland left in a location--and a developer comes in and demolishes the house, barn, etc., and builds these huge, ostentatious "houses"--that have no character or charm like the older, farm houses. Can't stand it. (I'm not so much against McMansions if they're in an area designated for that type of housing. My complaint is when they eliminate lovely countryside scenery, and plunk one of these houses in the middle of it.) End of rant.

Here I think it is worse cause they are buying average homes and putting up individual McMansions that do not blend with the area. While I'm not that far from a tractor my road is residential and there are homes all down the road, it really is 1/3 developed. We do lack retail though. Not a grocer or any other retail to speak of.

I know your pain and my boys are trying to fix mine. Last night they got a job dog sitting for 2 weeks next month. They promised me they would take care of the dog and I won't have to help out at all. I don't think it will go the way they promise it will but I will enjoy having a happy furry friend around for awhile.

Ugh. Rough isn't it. Sorry. :( I need a bit more time. After Cinni left us we had Walt at a month mark. I need a bit of time but considered fostering. Thought better. I tend to bond quickly.

Is the Pup staying in his own home or with you?

Ha ha ha!! I love how Belle is the instigator and Ranger follows the lead!! :hilarious: :hilarious: I can't even imagine the chaos with two dogs. We have one and he's a handful, as you know. ;)

(When hubs was in his late teens, he moved away from home and roomed with 5 other guys in a house. They had 4 dogs--a Great Pyrenees, two German Shepherds, and an Irish Setter. He said those dogs were always playing and running around the house after one another. Add to that, 5 single guys, parties, etc., and it was truly Animal House!! :p Thank goodness I didn't meet him until many years beyond that "stage" of his life!!) :D

Wow! That is a lot of Big Pups and fur under one roof. Sure they vacuumed everyday though.

I'm just really in a funk. One of my best friends just lost his significant other after a long battle with cancer:( She was a very sweet woman who kept him in line. We were all looking forward to both of them coming up Christmas week for a day or 2. I'm a bit worried with the holidays coming up because he lost his mom(close friend of mine) a few years ago. I'm hoping between his sister and myself we can at least keep him busy. The rest of the week is going to be very rough:(:(:(:(:(
I'm so sorry to hear this , triple dose of Pixie Dust. Losing a loved one is so hard. Prayers for his family and your's.

Us too. But with Colorado's tax break for senior's we will probably not move, ever. Our property taxes are half if you have lived in your home for 10 years; (we have) and are over 65. No doubt about that! Creak, creak, Whop's I thought that was my house creaking...nope, just the old bones!;)

We have everything, groceries, shopping, hospital within bus distance, or walking, if that works. But, with that too many people and too much development, in such a small town. The city planner wants us to act like a big town. The one positive, we are close to everything, and as we are aging, being close to essential services is very nice. We are where we should be at this stage of our life. When hubby takes everything out of the basement, our house is one level, with 3 bedrooms, kitchen, family room, living, dining room and two bath's. More than I like to keep up, but laundry , mud room is across from the bedroom. So we are really set . If I could change the weather, this would be perfect. We realize, on a fixed income, moving is much too costly. This house is now over 22 years old, so we know we are in for some major expenses, air, furnace, plumbing, etc. But all that combined it is so much cheaper to live here. We love the tax reduction, but it used to be free property taxes after 65, with 10 years in the home. Oh, for the good old days!;););)

That's why my husband didn't want me to do that. In one hour that dog is mine! Same , for babysitting. I thought about that too, but as hubby told be, if people didn't treat their dog's as part of the family, I would get mad at them and say something. There is only two issues that makes me really angry. Kids, and animal abuse. I would like to do to the abuser's what was done to innocent kids and animals. Rant over.
