The area I live in was all farms and gradually homes were built in about 1/3 of town. The area zoned residential is now full and no room for any type of development. Many of the smaller ranches are being torn down for McMansions that don't fit the area. So many 100 year old homes many of which still have their barns in yards, so tall. Most have been converted to garages with lofts or inlaw, office space.
I hate when that happens. Our road behind the house was one tiny lane. No development. Now, it's houses everywhere the eye can see. And strip malls and malls everywhere. I personally hate it. Usually we move when this starts happening, we couldn't this time, the housing market was very depressed, for "used" homes. New homes were going like hot cakes...

I agree, Colorado is beautiful. I use to ski frequently in my younger years. As a visitor for skiing it was beautiful, just wouldn't want to deal with all that snow as a local.

I chaperoned a National Youth Christian Council trip to CO after many years of only seeing the areas in winter one summer. We were in Aspen. It was awesome to see the place all greened up. The youth went rock climbing (me not so much, I like to be carried up a mountain and slip slide down with wine and cheese stops along the way) I really enjoyed seeing my snow covered lovely vacation area from a different perspective.
I love summer in Colorado, it's the best time of year for hiking. I'm never into snow!

I'm a little less than a mile from the river-woods-nature area. About 1/3 of our paths are concrete. I use to walk Walt in his younger days about 5 miles a day starting from my front door. His last few years I'd load him in my truck and drive to the Riverwalk. He loved it as much as I did. We did differ though, he like @MinnieM123 loved loved the snow.
Freddy our little benji type of dog, loved the snow...he would run outside , when he was a puppy, and dig a path with his nose. Snowballs would cling all over his body. We would call him in, with a warm towel...get him dried off, and then he would run around the house like a crazy man. When he got old, I dug out the path so he could go outside and do his business, always with a doggie sweater on.

Thank you I did enjoy it and never did get to watch a movie. No worries because I had a nice relaxing bath and got the coat I'm working on altered. Yea all the hard sewing is done, I still have to make the collar and lining but it fits so the rest will be easy. Time consuming but fun.:)
I wish I could sew. Not a job well learned in my youth, even though I took sewing lessons. We each have our own talents, good morning, I'm just about off to shower and make breakfast. I like getting up earlier, since we have been walking, my sleeping is better, and getting up earlier is easier. Can't figure that out!

What is it about McMansions??!! I've also seen areas (not as overall rural as yours) where there might be the only farmland left in a location--and a developer comes in and demolishes the house, barn, etc., and builds these huge, ostentatious "houses"--that have no character or charm like the older, farm houses. Can't stand it. (I'm not so much against McMansions if they're in an area designated for that type of housing. My complaint is when they eliminate lovely countryside scenery, and plunk one of these houses in the middle of it.) End of rant.
I couldn't have said it better!

I'm just really in a funk. One of my best friends just lost his significant other after a long battle with cancer:( She was a very sweet woman who kept him in line. We were all looking forward to both of them coming up Christmas week for a day or 2. I'm a bit worried with the holidays coming up because he lost his mom(close friend of mine) a few years ago. I'm hoping between his sister and myself we can at least keep him busy. The rest of the week is going to be very rough:(:(:(:(:(

I googled mcmansion for images and examples.
And wow, where you both right?
The mismatch of style of baffling.
Its the equivalent of going to using 5 lego setboxes of different styles to buy a giant house.

Yeah mismatch is accurate. And sometimes I forget about you when I use Slang Words. If I ever say something that you can't google let me know. Ooops.
