But you had to pay charges for long distance phone calls, if you wanted to make a phone call while you were out, you had to stick a quarter in a crummy payphone that about 1,000 other people had also used, you had to do research in libraries, you had to actually pay for calculators, you had to go to a video store if you wanted to rent a movie, you had to use a phone book to look up local businesses and actually pick up a phone and call them for information instead of just going to their websites, Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King didn't exist, and neither did Pixar, if you needed something typewritten, you had to use a typewriter...I mean, how did you ever survive?

:hilarious:;)
I loved most of those things, back in the day... especially hearing all the coins dropping in the pay phones. I love the library, it was a treat to go there, when I was young. I loved getting a poetry book, it was a special time. I also loved James Whitcomb Riley. And Jean Stratton books. She was a writer from Indiana. I wouldn't trade those times for anything. It was a quiet time in my life, it was so short but sweet.

I still go to the library, but I don't want to have to spend hours doing research there for homework. Having a device with access to the knowledge of mankind is marvelous. Even if I do use it primarily to look at pictures of cats.

Happy farm market Saturday. I really hope I make it today as my well pump gave out last night:mad::arghh::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::bawling::rolleyes: It's ancient so I'm trying not to complain too much .Anyway we're going to pull the old one this morning and double check what size the old one was before going to get the new one. The one and only upside the place we're getting the new one from is around the corner from the farm market. I figure If I cover myself from head to toe while helping pull the old one out and then change I'll be presentable enough to go there while my dh grabs the pump. Guess who may or may not have had a glass or 2 of wine last night.

Sympathy like.
Hope all went well :D, and ya' drunk up me heartie yo ho...!!! :joyfull: ;)
Still ketchuping...! :)

It's amazing I made it out alive. The interesting part is that I don't recall suffering through any of it . . . o_O

The first movie I remember seeing at a drive-in was a re-release of 101 Dalmations. The first movie I ever remember seeing in a theater was Tora! Tora! Tora!.
The theater was called Century 21. It was these 3 huge domes, with the largest one in the middle. Sooo cool back in the day!
It was granted historic status by the city of San Jose in '14.

Up in my neck of the woods, there was an old 1931 movie theater (closed in 1971) that was a throwback to the Golden Age of "movie houses". I wish I had some additional pictures of the inside to show you, but I did find one online of the Wurlitzer organ (that's right--those grand old theaters actually had organs). I don't recall what movie my mother took me to as a kid back then, but I do remember being in awe of all the interior decorations and lighting. (When the lights went down for the movie, the ceiling would have a nighttime lighting view design of the stars in the sky . . . )
