I used to be a huge Cubs fan. However, as the Cubs haven't won anything big like a World Series in over 100 years, I stopped caring. Now they are winning, and changing the ballpark, and I could care less. I rode past there today, on my way to the foot doctor. It would be kind of comical if the World Series made it there this year. The neighborhood is a mess with all of the construction walls. Reminded me of my visits to the Disney parks, when they were under construction. "Parden My Dust" signs were everywhere.

Great news!!! Oh, you wanna know something about Jack? He had been in the shelter for a few months and was difficult for them to adopt out. (He's always been wacko.) Well, one weekend, they put him on sale :hilarious: and that was the weekend we had gone to the shelter. :p They told us he was a bit unusual, but still a decent dog, just not for everyone . . . :cautious: We took him for a short walk and watched him play with some toys on the floor--running around like a lunatic in his own world. I asked the shelter guy if Jack often acted crazy, and the guy said yes , , , a little bit . . . at times . . .

So hubs and I looked at each other and said, "Sold! He'll fit right in with us!!" :joyfull: Seven years later, he's still living here with us in the asylum--one big, happy family! :joyfull:

Awe. See I knew you loved Jack for all his loony antics. :inlove:

Maybe you have to be native to Illinois, but this stuff never appealed to me. And it has been at my local farmers mkt since the first one. Which always makes me wonder, where the heck did it come from?

DH and I took the trip up to a local farm Sunday, even though it was hotter than, well, hot. Best corn, zucchini to make zucchini lasagna, and grapes. Oh, and Southern Illinois peaches. Yum.:hungry:

Their corn is from Twin Acres Farm and is picked and packed there the day before. It is about an hour due North of WoodField Mall.

Not everyone loves sweet corn. I don't like all types of corn either, some of it is just to starchy and not all that sweet.

whats so special about this brand? its tastier?

It is very sweet and the Kernels are tiny and tender. It doesn't have much starch so it just needs to be blanched versed cooked. It comes from a family farm now in its 4th generation operating the farm. They pick it one day and it is loaded and sold at Farmers Markets by their own people the next day. If you drive up to Harvard-it is picked that day. When it is gone it is gone, they don't resell other people's crops.
I order it and send it to my Sis, there in 2 days from ordering. They only ship 2x a week.

Oh, and Southern Illinois peaches. Yum.:hungry:

I love peaches, yellow and white. I have found over the years the freshest ones and very reasonable prices to come from Sam's Club.
Go figure. One of my BFF, I call her Mrs. GreenJeans, she taught me so much (as did my elderly neighbor a former orchard man) she buys their peaches from Sam's and makes the most wondrous Jam's and fruit salsa's. Her tomato and Zuk salsas are awesome too.
Yep I am drooling now.

I didn't realize you were not from Illinois. (you actually moved here? on purpose?) Where are you originally from?

Doing research on where to stay in San Diego. I was looking at the general area and found this...on an official website

So weather you are planning to visit for the weekend, a week or longer San Diego has something for everyone.

Don't know what you are going to do but I've stayed at Hilton Bayfront. Price was very reasonable.

That's wonderful. I hope each animal got a loving home.

It just warms my heart. I adopted 3 out of my 5 dogs. None of them from shelters. Walter is a Hoot, much like Jack a guy with attitude, but my best dog ever was Jethro. I saved him from a crate that he lived in with his Sister from the same litter that was in a nice basement. They were actually great pet owners unfortunate circumstances. Wife with a toddler, told never to have any other children and poof of course she was prego shortly after buying two Golden Retrievers. She was confined to bed for 7 months. They HAD to find homes for Pups. I drove 30 miles to adopt Jethro. On the way back with him in my back seat there was a horrible accident. We sat on the tollway for over an hour not moving. Jethro and I bonded and when we got home he met my female golden and fell in love with her. Her with him not so much. I think he just loved my fenced in property and the ability to run and play. I never had to train that one. He was only 4 months old but he followed me everywhere. Everywhere. Forever. At times from Fridge to Stove to Table. If I said sit, he did and would not move. Oddest thing.

My first Pup a Shepard was from an unwanted litter. She was like my first born but with a mind of her own. She like my female golden were the guardian protectors of my kids when they were tiny. When she was gone I was heartbroken.

Actually she was really my second Pup. Holiday didn't last too long. We adopted her a Springer from a farm in Wisconsin. 6 weeks old. We lost her at 3 months to Parvo that the vet said she had when we adopted her. There was not a vaccine yet for that when that all happened. She was a sweet little thing with a life too short.

I am back from the doctor. Thankfully, I did not receive any earth shattering news. I wasn't happy when I asked the doctor if he had looked at my X-ray, and he said, "What Xray?" He then left the examining room, and had my X-ray on a laptop computer. He showed me my bone spur, and said that that is not causing my pain. He actually could not pinpoint the reason for the pain that I was having. Basically, I injured my foot by overdoing, and I need to rest it, and ice it, as much as I can. He did not say anything about pain medication, but I haven't been taking anything stronger than maybe one advil gelcap a day anyway. Bottom line, I got a better pair of insoles, for my shoes, from the doctor, and I have to see him again in three weeks.

It is good to know that I don't need any kind of surgery, and a cortisone shot would not help me at all he said. Did I waste my time going to the doctor. No. It's good to know what I don't have, and don't need. Now some good old common sense will help me along the way, and see how I feel in three weeks.
Congrats on not needing surgery! The good thing is you know know how to handle the situation. I hope you have time to rest and ice. That means no lawn mowing. Best wishes and get well soon

Thank you for adopting such a wonderful dog.

Today's chiefs make me laugh. They take a head of iceberg lettuce cut it in quarters, call it a "wedge salad" and people pay a fortune for 20 cents worth of lettuce and 10 cents worth of dressing. But, I guess people buy the stuff so who am I to be critical. I do know that they will never make a nickel waiting for me to spend money on that.
Me either. I don't mind overpaying for a salad put together with a little thought and creativity(at Disney anyway) but $8 for a side wedge salad no way!!!!!!!

I just have to pace myself with my foot. As long as I don't walk barefoot, and I wear the proper shoes, my foot should feel better each and every day. Today is my laundry day, and I have to walk down a flight of stairs to change loads in the basement.

I can't believe how fast my trip is approaching. I am not only 33 days away.

Please be very careful with your foot today! I used to love going in September many years ago.
