We've been married for 27+ years and even DWifey doesn't remember what we paid for the photographer. But, yes, between the wedding, wedding reception with cake cutting, bouquet, garter, drinks, dinner, dancing, etc., her and her two assistants were taking pictures for hours.
Worth every penny, though...! :)
Yeah, I think anything depends on where you live, really. I remember when my choir went to NYC to sing in Carnegie Hall, the same McDonalds value meal that I got in Wyoming for less than $4 cost almost $7 in NYC. My apartment that was nothing special when I was in my last year of college was $400 a month, but in California, that same place would have gone for over $1000. When husband and I got married, the average wedding cost between $20,000 and $30,000...Ours cost us closer to $6000. Granted, we were paying for it ourselves and trying to keep costs down, but the same wedding in a big city would have cost us 3 times what we paid. Venues and caterers are much more expensive in larger urban areas. The overall cost of living in Wyo is way less than back east.

When we got married, I "hired" (friends and family rate . . . ;) ) my brother, who was a photographer. Worked out quite well! Oh, and I was in the hotel business at the time, and my boss knocked off a huge portion of the wedding reception bill at the hotel. All in all, we didn't spend much at all on the wedding!!
Nice to have connections! We did that with renovating when we bought our house. The previous owners had ripped out the flooring and the carpeting on the stairs and took out the chair lift on the stairs, so everything needed to be redone and the bathrooms were a MESS with no tile, etc. So hubby hired his uncle, who was a plumber, to do the work on showers and sinks and stuff and another uncle who was a contractor to handle the repairs on walls and banister and such, and a family friend who was an electrician (though we later regretted that one because he ended up costing us more in the long run because he messed so many things up and took so much time that the "discount" on how much we paid per hour we ended up paying in how many hours because he took twice as long to do it) to do the rewiring because everything was 40 years old and not up to code. We wouldn't have been able to do everything we wanted if it weren't for family discounts!!

You don't have donuts there?
Nope. Well, in the last couple of years the grocery store has sold round bread with holes in it and frosting on them that they CALL donuts, but they aren't REAL donuts and there is also not much variety. There are no long johns or custard/jelly filled donuts, nothing with the chocolate or maple glaze, no crullers or bear claws, or fritters. So...basically no...we don't have donuts.

Thank you!

All went better than I could have hoped for today. My Mom was in a strange mood, but she did put on a dress and a mostly black dress at that. She had been rambling about she wasn't going to wear a dress (I didn't care) and was going to just throw on a pair of pants. (My Mom had always dressed well so it was odd but whatever, Mom is rebelling thing.) I got to meet my great niece that is now 1 1/2 that I had yet to meet and that sure lightened the mood, she was a hoot. My niece and my Sis spoke and both of them did very well but my Sis kind of lost it and that made me sad for her but she regrouped. She is a very good public speaker. My niece and my Dad always bet on sports for years. She said Papa died too soon 'cause she thought she would have cleaned up with Cleveland this week winning. Made everyone laugh.

Saw some people I have not seen in a very long while and that was so nice. I side stepped some evil people real well and that worked out just fine. My MIL and adopted MIL were both there. The fake one (long story) has been my buddy as was her husband for decades and so nice of her to attend. It was kinda sad to see my real MIL as she is in assited living for a couple years and the dementia seems to have sunk in deeper. Not sure she knew where she was or why she was there. She was very social and she was just silent. I watched at the wake after that my BIL was explaining how to eat the pizza appetizer, that it was finger food and it seemed to confuse her. That was sad to see. Yet the 91 year old lady climbed a flight of stairs with no issues after a knee replacement a couple years ago. Go Figure.

We spent the balance of the afternoon with my Mom, my Sis and her family and mine at my Moms. My Sis will be there till late Monday so I will get a few days break at least. While there my Sis' hubby did all the legal crud for stocks and life insurance/dividends, tax obligations as he is a banker and a stockbroker. A relief I don't have to figure out all that.

So under the circumstances the day went very very well and I was pleased with all the arrangements I made for my Dad and the wake thereafter. And Done!
I'm so happy to hear, that the wake went well. :inlove:

Happy farm market Saturday. Except my dh is in the doghouse again. Last night when I started putting the overnight bag for the trip down together he said he needs new summer jammies:rolleyes::mad::banghead: I asked him a few weeks ago if he needed anything else and he said he was good. So it's 2 stops before pool time today. I hope all of you have a great weekend.
You are lucky. The males in my house can't figure out something like that until the night before, sometimes.
