I would love that, if you would. I live through every one's post's on here. The pictures and stories of all kinds make my day. I have a story, not related to pets. I was eating some watermelon today, and thought of my grandpa. We always ate watermelon on his porch, when he moved to town. He told us to "never" swallow watermelon seeds, as we would have a watermelon plant growing out of our ears! I believed him, and always spit the seeds over his front porch! So did sister!

What an idiot...this baptist church/phelps fellow. I would say more too, but it wouldn't be very nice and I don't want to get political/religious.
Yes, well I would say Idiot is an understatement. They excommunicated him from his own church just before he died. The rumor was he might have had a change of heart, or at least softened a little.
But, the good news is Angel Action is being carried on. I think our group had about 15 of us when we did it and there are THOUSANDS planning to form human walls at every funeral, which I think is awesome. My friend in Kissimmee is planning on being there.

Too funny!!!!!
We were told the EXACT same thing...!!! :hilarious:
We ate so much watermelon over the years on both sets of grandparents farms. Definitely
fresh, because they came from their own gardens...!
Wether or not it was chilled in the fridge first or fresh right from the garden, we didn't care...soooooo good...!!!!! :hungry:

In all seriousness I've begun to wonder this also. My favorite resort and I just have pondered that thought too for the first time this week.

I seen a few gator in nearby ponds, but not in the river at POR.

I remember when they both came out too. My older sister was allowed to go see Ghostbusters and Gremlins. I was not, I think my mom probably thought I would be scared (movie about ghosts, and a movie about little monsters). She was probably right. I remember that I had a loose tooth the day my sister got to see Ghostbusters, and my mom told me if I lost it that I could go to the movies as a reward. I tried but I couldn't lose it in time. I don't really know why she made that offer, maybe she knew I wouldn't lose it. Anyway, I still have never seen either movie.
for me, ghostbusters was more fun related than scary related.
The second one was more scary...
but dear god. Gremlins and ESO (IT the clown) are the ones that scared the beejesus out of me when I was younger.
Also the leprechaun that sucked the souls of sleeping kids.. that one gave me the jeebiescreepies.

Oh are you not familiar with the Westboro Baptist church? Fred Phelps? Google them. I'd explain here, but I'm afraid that would get me in trouble for being political. Anyway, the picture I posted was from a counter protest we did against him when he came to Laramie where I went to college. He came for the trial of Matthew Shepherd's murderers. He picketed Matthew's funeral but we didn't have the organization at that time. So when he came for the trial, we got together to block his hate. Angel Action is what we called it and it has spread across the nation with groups making human walls at every funeral he pickets, but my understanding is they are no longer allowed to wear the big wings because Phelps' group complained that it was an infringement on their first amendment rights.
they even picked up military (with honors) funerals. But many groups.. including very burly patriotic bikers and ex military.
Have shielded the funerals from the hate of these morons.

Still, I love poetic justice. Because there is a multicolor pro gay building right infront of Westboro's church as a form of protest.

And pretty sure that God called his judgement, because this clown (Fred Phelps)
suffered his last years by illnesses. In the end... He was pretty much excommunicated from his own church. Ironic.

I also love cool air breezes coming through the windows. We have 2 window a/c units (one in livingroom, and one in bedroom), and I hate blocking off the windows. (At one point years ago, the landlord offered to put in central a/c, but I said no. We don't need to have a/c in the entire place. Plus we're out a lot, so we don't want to be paying more on our electric bill for a central cooling system.) In your case, however, you're off work for the summer, and in the house more often than we are, so I can see where central may make more sense.

Anyway, those window units we have are definitely necessary for a/c, especially in the bedroom at night for sleeping. Still, I'm always happy in the fall when we can take out these things and open up the windows again. :cat:
No a/c here. I'm a fresh air person. One benefit of living up a hill, there's always a good chance for breezes.

She is considered the last matriarch in our family. Everyone follow's her lead, as she is the oldest. I don't want to make enemy's in the family, my daughter is friends with cousins, her daughter's. Daughter know's and her daughter's know how she is. I'm am the peace maker, for the next generation. I'm trying not to cause trouble. It's a little thing to us to spend a few hundred dollars to keep the peace. Families have their own dynamic. I'm following ours. We may have had terrible experiences between family member's, but we bury the hatch and go on. At least I do, it's too tiring to keep up with anger.
I'm not criticizing your reasons, just that it would be a cold day in heck (trying to be PC) before I would let anyone, family or not, control my actions. I don't care who they think they are. My sister tried that Matriarch trip on everyone. It was ridiculous, because I am the oldest so if there were to be any "arch" it would be a Patriarch (me). To me it would be much more tiring to always be walking on eggs because of one non-justifiable persons opinion of power. But, whatever works for your dynamic. I do understand because I had a wife that required very careful egg walking for many years. Probably that is why I have an adversity to it.

Thanks that's good information for those , not familiar with gator territory!
I don't know of any in North Carolina. If they are here it would be in the coastal regions. We do have shark attacks on the beaches from time to time. I know that they are in Myrtle beach So. Carolina and that is only a few miles from the N.Carolina border. I'm sure some have wandered over the border and ignored the "All Alligators are banned from entering the state." They also would get a little chilly anywhere inland through the winter months.
