I can't wrap my brain around this. While I certainly get the attachment to pets, I have a long history with my various Pups, I can't wrap my brain around how people come to bring odd pets indoors initially. I had a friend that tried to domesticate a wolf and another a monkey. While I get the attachment, I don't grasp the initial though to bring certain animals into a home let alone diapering a duck. I just can't wrap my brain around the original idea that it is a good idea for a family or the pet.
Oh hers were all rescued animals from when she was doing animal rescues, mostly for birds. There are some that for whatever reason, they can't be released back into the wild, and if there aren't zoos or conservation areas for them, they have nowhere to go. She has one duck that does live outside, no diaper, but he's terrified of water. And then she has a rabbit. They were all rescued and had nowhere to go, so she took them.

My first Pup I called my first born. I adored her. A Shepard that was loyal to her last breath. I had her prior to children and she lived until shortly after my second child was born. I was so sad when she passed. Still even when I had her mostly without children she wasn't my baby. Loved her but still I knew she was my pet, not my baby. It is just such a different relationship, pets vs family in my mind anyhow.
I get that, too...but for someone who can't HAVE a family of their own, they find some other way. Her way was to take in rescued animals.

I remember Kelly Ripa speaking to this years ago. Their family was allowed to skip the lines when her kids were small. She had an epiphany as they aged that they were now old enough not to need to skip the lines and she had them stand in line and they initially balked. Yet though she could she had them wait cause they were old enough.

While I did appreciate that life lesson she eventually grasped and now wanted to teach, the caveat that it was OK earlier kinda rubbed me wrong as my kids did lines from infancy. That idea that it was OK when they were little and cut in front of other children the same age was kinda icky. I get privilege, it happens everywhere but it was a strange justification.
I wonder if it maybe had more to do with traffic flow because of who she was? I mean, if a celebrity is standing in a line at Disney, they will start to disrupt the flow because they will attract so much attention. It sucks that everyone else gets booted behind them, but I can understand for safety reasons, it might be better to get them in and out. I wonder what happened when she finally did wait in line.

Well, yes...she is a bit strange. But she's really a lovely person, if a bit child-like, and her husband more than makes up for her free-spirited attitude....he's kind of a know-it-all stick in the mud. But on the other hand, she had like 7 or 8 miscarriages and just could NOT carry, and her husband refused to adopt, so she made do with animals. She volunteered at a rescue organization and all of her pets came from rescues that couldn't be released into the wild. So not THAT strange.
I'm sure she is a lovely person, but, with so many other domesticated animals that need a good home, it seem that a duck with diapers to be a bit over the edge. But, to each his or her own. If it's something she wants to do, it isn't my business anyway. I hope I didn't offend you by my statement, that was not my intent, however, throughout my post I couldn't stop thinking about those episodes of "Friends" when Joey and Chandler had the pet duck and chicken. :)

Awesome! I'm going to make these, who cares about that New Years diet!
Me:oops: Today's highlights roasted root veggie soup and carrot carrot hummus to start and then a mushroom, pecan and lentil burger. LOL that and salad. That's what my ds and I are cooking I'm going to try a bit of everything. My ds and I watched Joann Weir on create yesterday and he want's to make the soup and hummus. The veggie burger is something he found in a book from the library and he had me copy it down.
