Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Good morning, Figgy. I've been meaning to ask you, is the swimming pool you use closing on Labor Day? Don't know why, but this throught crossed my mind last night on my commute home from work. The community outdoor pool in my town (when I was growing up there as a kid) always closed on Labor Day.

It has everything to do with staffing. The overwhelming majority are college and high school students that have returned to school. The WaterPark my kids worked at since 15 years old and my DD still manages part time is down to opening half the facility which makes patrons angry even though they enter for half price.

It costs about $500 to train each lifeguard and approximately 40 hours of training and then they get a certification as a lifeguard which includes testing out on AED, CPR deep water saves, spinal baskets/boards. So when these highly skilled young'ns head back to school even though the weather is hot there just isn't the staff to keep them open beyond labor day. It is no coincidence that park districts bring down their indoor pools at this time of year for there annual rehab, they can pull that staff to eek through the outdoor season.

She is taking early entry classes at the local university and looking into their music program and wants to keep working with DCI.
That's wonderful, I took piano lessons for over 10 years, hubby just bought me a piano last year, (I didn't have one for many years). I'm going through my old piano books, and my love of music has returned. I get "lost" when playing the piano. I remember both doggies, running in to lay by the piano to listen and go to sleep. I spent many a night playing for them before they passed. Music does soothe "the savage beast". Although, both my doggies were angels!

Nope, the deal is only valid in moderate resorts, or the regular dining package with the deluxe resorts. I looked again, but the difference for us to pay for the dining package is about $600, so it's not worth it no more than we'll eat at table service restaurants. I actually crunched the numbers and it's cheaper for us with this deal to stay in the moderate resort than it is to stay at the value resort, because of the free QS dining. We're looking at 10 days. We were only going to stay 5, but we can do 10 days at the moderate resort for $200 more than we could stay at a value for 5 with this deal through the international site. So that's what we're doing if there's still availability when flights open up. The offer is valid through Oct. 20th, so I'll still be able to get the deal as long as there are rooms available.
Nice!

I so hope all works out for your family. I was able to spend last days with Mom and Dad. Was with Dad when he passed. Mom passed the day after we spent time with her, and getting her an ice cream sundae. Her favorite dessert. I was able to tell them both good by and that I love them so much. This will sound strange to people who don't know me. I live in the Denver area, and I got a "message" on three occasions to go "home", That's Indiana. The first time, my brother died at 45 from heart disease. I was able to see him before he died. My dad, I was at his bedside when he died, and then my Mom, before she died. I was so blessed to spend the last few hours with them, I will be forever happy for these experiences. My family has never understood this, but I really listen to this little "voice". I wish for a special time with your dad.

That doesn't sound strange to me - I just think you're "tuned in" more with people who you're close with. :inlove:

I'm so glad to hear about all the training today. Back in my day, the popular kids got those jobs!

My step-daughter now has her learner's permit. It has been the most terrifying summer of my life. I cannot wait for school to start in two weeks so I do not have to think of new and creative ideas on why we should spend the day at home or trying to convince the kids that walking everywhere in 90-degree heat is a good thing.

Yep, I remember all that fun...! ;)
We have 3 kiddos (DD 20, DS 22, DD 24). DS was born very premature and has special needs, so does not (and may never) have a license.
I must say though, both DDs are very good drivers, and pretty much were from the beginning. :)
Take deep breaths...! ;)

Also, WELCOME...! :)

Yes, it is...it's American. The Dutch are not familiar with it as they don't usually bake at home. So you have to get it in an international food store. I can get it at either the British store or the Chinese supermarket, both of which are in a town 45 minutes away.
Sympathy, that's awful. I love to bake in the winter. I would be lost without baking soda.

Agreed. I think sometimes you just get a feeling. My same Iranian friend has known every time one of the girls in our group gets pregnant. And I called almost every one of them when they went into labor, just calling to check on them and see how they were and they were huffing and puffing. 6th sense, I guess.
