We're native Texans, but, my mid to late childhood years were spent in northern California.
When we were younger, there were some crazy things goin' on there, at the time. The Zodiac Killer being one of them. We were watched a little closer 'til that all died down.
But yes, especially when we were older, we'd get on our bikes to head to the foothills, among other places, and not return until dinner.
Good memories...! :)
I feel bad for the kids growing up today. Not much freedom left for them.

Sorry, never got to my laptop.

This is a new river off the river. Out of all my pictures I took over the last two days (and it is raining again) this was my favorite. It is the overflow and you can see it has current. Isolated like this it actually looks pretty.

This is a grass field and picinic grove where summer camps are held during the week.

These are part of our riverwalk and the brownish isn't really water, it is concrete sidewalks and adjacent neighbors backyards. If you look closely, there are ducks swimming up to the left. At least they are enjoying themselves. There are fish swimming on the sidewalk, just couldn't get close enough to snap a shot without falling in.

This is the hub of town, a round paver brick stage and on the other side is concrete benches, it is similar to a stage and then seating along the riverside. At least it was constructed to go under water. I'll have to take a photo of it some day when it reappears.

This is the disappearing sidewalk that leads into the hub.

It looks really rough out your way. Stay safe. Don't get too close...water can have a mind of it's own. :)

Yikes! That's scary. But that must mean you fought, and for that, I give you major points.

funny thing is.. my family have always told Death to GTFO...
My dad was supposed to die when he was 20 for heart issues.
he went past his 50's and only cancer took him down.

Thanks it's my third concussion, once ice skating, and once falling in the tub. I'm certainly a klutz! ;)
I took an ice skating class this past semester and wore a helmet because I am such a klutz. ;)

I didn't fall as much as some other students, but when I did, it was pretty much always this epic wipeout. I would look and be like, "What's this random bruise?" and then realize it was ice skating.

Your cat sounds funny. She and Jack share something in common: they both run randomly around the house for no apparent reason! Sometimes, I'll be downstairs on the sofa watching tv or reading. Out of the blue, Jack will barrel up and down the stairs a few times, then stop to catch his breath, with this deranged look of accomplishment on his face and look over to me, almost looking for approval. It's almost like he's saying, "Aren't I the most amazing dog in the universe?!" :p
That's funny. Belle will run around for no reason, and then come look at us, all wide-eyed, and as soon as we look at her, take off. It's her way of saying, "Please chase me."

I think Belle and Jack have a good amount in common. They both like to cause trouble. This morning, Belle was in my room, and I was asleep, until I heard her making noise. Turns out she was chewing on a plastic baggie I was using for packing. And she just sits there and looks at me like, "Who, me? I'm an angel." She eventually got tossed out of my room and I went back to sleep. Then later, I hear a pitiful meow outside my room, like "Please let me in!" Trouble-maker, but I love her anyway!

Relieved to hear it's not as bad as it could have been, stay safe.

Thanks! :)
And, thankfully, we didn't get hit as hard as they thought we might overnight, either.
The 4-mile stretch of country back road that is part of my commute to the office, that has 7 low water crossings, was still closed, so I had to take my usual alternate route. But, overall, not too bad.
That back road was closed for 4 days during the Labor Day rains, something I'd never seen before.
