@ajrwdwgirl , and @MinnieM123 , an update for y’all.
My MIL, Shirley, is getting close to the end.
I’m sitting with her right now. She’s not been medicated today, but is completely sedate, and her breathing is labored.
The nurse was here earlier, as she now visits daily, and verified that it’s close.
I’ve known her for 40 years, as I met her for the first time when I went to pick up Carolyn for our first date back in 1984.
We haven’t always agreed on everything, but we’ve always respected each other. She’s busted her butt for her family, and I hate to see her this way.
This isn’t easy, especially for her, and to heck with me, but this is still painful to witness.
She will pass in our home, and in her room, as that’s how she wants it, and we’ll not let her down on that.
Also, both of our dogs are in here laying next to her chair. It’s obvious they sense something.
I just wanted to thank you both for your concern, and I’ll let y’all know, accordingly.

Below is just a pic of the love from her great granddaughters to her…

I’m so sorry for you and your family. I’m sure it is very difficult for your wife, so special thoughts go to her. I know how tough it is to lose a mother. Your mother in law is so lucky to have all of you (including the dogs) to care for her and be with her.

@donaldtoo , I was trying to decide what to write about your ailing MIL, and your family (including dogs) taking care of her. So sad to hear she's getting closer to the end. I'm copying below what ajrwdwgirl mentioned, as she conveyed exactly what I was thinking as well.

I have heard that animals do that to comfort those that are close to passing. Dogs really are the best.

So sorry to read you are going through this -unfortunately we all must at some point, may family and friends give you strength .

@donaldtoo Prayers to your MIL and your WHOLE family! Your dedication to your MIL has been such an inspiration to read. Hugs to all of you!

@donaldtoo sorry that you are going through this. We went through it last Fall with DH’s Mom. It’s hard. Prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

My sincerest apologies for not answering y’all in individual posts, but I’m sure y’all understand, and I’ll try to kind of do it here, as I don’t want to clog up the thread.

@ajrwdwgirl , thank you so much for your kind thoughts, words and prayers. Carolyn is taking it pretty hard, as is to be expected. I know you lost your mother earlier in life. We have been very fortunate to have Shirley (she was named by her mother for Shirley Temple, actually) with us for so many years, and we feel very blessed in that regard. Again, thank you so very much.

And yes, Belle and Ranger have always kind of been Shirley’s guardians, even since she started living in our home a couple of years ago.
Even more so now, and dogs are indeed the best.

And, thank you so very much, @MinnieM123 , as your kind words and input is always appreciated.

Thank you very much @John park hopper , and yes, family and friends were here over the weekend, and it definitely helped her.
My folks were here, and my mother and father are devout Catholics. My mother has administered communion to the sick, and has worked with Alzheimer’s patients for years. They were of great help to Shirley, and all of us.

Thank you very much @rshell68 , not to preach too much, as I’m not the perfect example, but it is what we sign up for when we take those vows.
It is my honor to be here for her last days, and make her as comfortable as possible.

@93boomer , I also appreciate your kind words and thoughts very much, and I’m also sorry y’all went through that with DHs Mom.
It’s just very difficult to watch the beautiful, caring, loving and vibrant woman, that I’ve known for 40+ years, deteriorate like this.

I hope I worded things properly, and didn’t leave anyone out, but again, I very much appreciate all of you for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.
Thanks again, so much, to all of you.

@donaldtoo,

sorry you are going through this. Special thoughts go to your wife through this hard time. My mom had to deal with the death of her parents years ago and her brother. it was hard for her.

Thank you so much for your kind words.
And yes, my wife (Carolyn) is taking it very hard. Her mother has been a part of her life, in a big way, for all of her life, as well as my life for a very long time.
And, I’m sorry your mother had to deal with all of that, years ago. When you love people, it’s very hard to lose them, but not loving and caring for the good people in your life is no way to live.
Again, thank you so much.

At my age, I'm sure you realize how often I've had to deal with this. Both my parents and my wife's parents besides countless Aunts, Uncles, cousins and many friends. It's never easy, but it is something that all humans have to face at some point in life. My thoughts are with you and your wife and family and best of wishes to all.

My Pop is all that’s left of his parents and brothers now, at almost 92. Both of his brothers passed in the last couple of years, as well as my aunt that was married to my Pops younger brother.
One of my Pops nieces (oldest daughter of his youngest brother) came by to visit with my folks the other day for several hours. My Pop and him were very similar, and I think it was comforting to her in that regard.
Again, thank you for your kind words and wishes.

That’s a lot to go through. Has hospice been involved?

Yes, they have been involved for a few months now. The nurse is here every day now, and she is still getting a sponge bath twice a week. We (Carolyn, Matthew, and myself) get her up every morning, get her in her chair, and make sure she gets her meds. She seems to feel more “alive” in her chair than in her bed, and that makes sense. We are trying very hard not to overmedicate her, as that’s just not good in any way, but there is a balance.
She has lost her appetite and is fading, though.
It’s just difficult.
Thanks so much, Tony.

But yet the fanbases on social media wanna say the Orioles are the dirtiest team because they hit Judge and then someone else on another team like days later.
Orioles is not the only team that " drills the hitter " with a 95mph heater. Dirty or not many teams partake. If anyone's doesn't believe they may be in denial. This is what generally starts bench clearing brawls when just like in ice hockey one could assault someone on the field or ice and not end up in jail. When I pitched in my younger days if someone drilled one of our hitters , at times our coach would signal me when I'm on the mound later in the game to drill a specific batter.

In that game , Soto injures Westburg while he was running to third , then the Yankees built a 3-0 lead, then Judge while at bat gets drilled by a heater and gets injured on his hand.
