9 and 10?! Where do you work? That sounds nice!!
I'm a corporate accountant. In my field, it's pretty typical to have flexible hours as long as you get all of your work done. So you can start early and leave early, or you can roll in at 10 and stay late. Just as long as you're making your meetings and you're generally available between 10-3. We're also 100% remote. Most of my coworkers opt to roll in later; none of us are morning people.

That's nice that you can start your day later in the morning. Back in the day when my sibling was in CA, the associates had to be in the office by 4am and generally work until 3pm or later. The commute to downtown LA was around 45 min going but with LA rush hour in the afternoon , the commute was around 90 min to 120 min back to the beach in Orange County where a number of them lived. Starting early because they would communicate with Wall Street staff on the East Coast in AM. At least it paid very well especially when it came annual bonus time which times exceeded 2-3x the annual base. Breakfast and lunch was provided by the firm so staff did not have to leave and eat while still being on top of market activity.

I would also choose the later time! I had no idea that was typical to have those flexible hours...anddd 100% remote. Sounds like the perfect job to combine pool side 😅. I am not a morning person at all but my job is on demand 24/7 -- I have a 3 month old baby who is my "boss", ha!

E has her PWS presentation today. I hope it goes well after all the issues they had. And one of the group members has been really lazy at the end, so E and Isabel had to basically do the last bits without him. They did the testing of the product without him, because he had made plans to go swimming with his friends and didn't want to cancel to work on the PWS, so the girls did it. He asked what he could do and they gave him the task of filling in the log book (writing in what they did each class period and how long it took. They had it all recorded, so it was just copying and pasting it and making it look nice in a document) and he didn't do it. They kept asking if it was done and finally he told them he found it "difficult" and they ended up having to make a bunch of corrections. Same with the Foreword that asked him to write. They did the entire report and only asked him to write the introduction and he didn't do it. Then they were each supposed to make power point slides for part of the presentation and they made a timeline to get it all done and said it HAD to be done at this specific time so they had time to look it all over and make any changes/corrections before the presentation. The girls had theirs done, but he didn't. And there was something that they all had to do a bit of, but only one person could work in the program at a time, and E was doing hers, and he said he wanted to work on his, so she logged out to let him do his, and then he didn't do it, and Isabel had to go through and finish everything so E could finally finish her part. They asked him yesterday if they could count on him for the presentation and he didn't answer. They asked again and he said "What do you want me to say? I said I'd be there!" and they were like...."Yeah, but are can we count on you to know your parts and to be prepared, and not tell us 5 minutes before that you found it difficult and didn't know what to say?" and he was like "Oh....yeah....I get that. And that's a really good idea to prepare it ahead of time!!" Seriously? You just NOW think of that because they said it? If she hadn't said anything, you'd have just shown up and were planning to wing it? The PWS is like....half their grade for the year. Without it, they aren't even allowed to take exams. It's SUPER important, and you didn't even think of practicing the presentation to make sure you know what to say, etc.? They had a test week where they had a couple of tests each day, but no classes, so the girls used the time to work on the PWS and they used Microsoft teams to talk about the work and what still needed to be done and to help each other, etc....The girls would be working for a few hours and Max would log in at noon and be like "What can I do?" and they'd say "Oh, this still needs to be done. You can do that." and he'd say "Well, I'm really busy right now. I'll do it later." and then he wouldn't do it, and the girls would end up having to do it themselves.

They have to each have at least 80 hours of work, and when they did the log book, E had 125 hours, Isabel had 121 hours, and Max had 101 hours. And that was before doing the report and making the power point slides, etc. So now, the girls are very understandably nervous that he is going to show up without even having anything prepared and they are going to basically have to do the presentation without him. They have both studied the parts he was supposed to do so that they can jump in if he messes it up. After they had done the testing and written the report and done all the other stuff and were discussing how to divide up the parts for the presentation, he says "Well how am I supposed to know what to say? I wasn't there when you did all this stuff." Exactly!!! You SHOULD have been there. You chose to go swimming instead and skipped the meetings where they discussed everything afterwords. Whose fault is it that you don't know what was done? So hopefully the presentation will go well.

They each get an individual grade for the process...that's for the work they each did and how hard they worked. Then they get a grade as a group from their client on the final product...did they accomplish what the client asked of them. Does it meet the client's needs. And they get a grade from the expert on how well it works, etc. And then they get a grade on their presentation to their teachers, client, and expert. The process grade, E will be golden. She has more than enough hours, she worked really hard, and kind of took a leadership position in the group to make a timeline for them to follow to make sure everything got done. Isabel was really good about following the timeline and asking for help if she needed it so E could explain it or look over it and make corrections. (E is doing a higher level of school than Isabel and Max, so more is expected of her, and the teachers matched her with these two because they wanted the other two to have the benefit of working with someone who could bring out the best in them....E is really good at the research and time management. The other two are fine once they get going, but they lack some of the skills E has in getting started, and figuring out a strategy. So they matched E with these two so she could help them with that. E COULD have worked alone, but she's such a perfectionist that it would have taking SO much time...they wanted her to have some help so she didn't HAVE to do it all by herself. It was a win-win.) Max has motivation issues and tends to be lazy. E said you have to give him specific tasks that he can do or he just won't do anything because he doesn't take the initiative to figure out what still needs to be done and find something to do. He waits for someone to tell him what to do, and if he doesn't immediately know how to do a task, he'll wait until they ask if it's done and then say he didn't know how to do it. She said he was fine in the middle of the project, once they got going, and he worked hard. But it was hard to get him started and then at the end his attention drifted and he stopped being productive. For better or worse, it's done after today, and then they just have the presentation evening for the parents next week, but that's not graded.

Bob Newhart was still acting in 2020 at age 89. No such thing as retirement for him! One actor that looks incredible is Carol Burnett age 90 recently was on the Kelly Clarkson show a few weeks ago.
Although it seems like yesterday, 2020 was 4 years ago, so now he is 93 and doesn't look well at all. A lot can change in 4 years. I do agree that Carol still looks good. I saw her with Stephen Colbert but some things can't be hidden and probably only recognized but those of us in the "ain't so young anymore category". That involves mobility or at least what it seemed like to me. (short steps, trouble with going from one level to another on stairs or platforms) not awful, you understand, but to be expected at 90.

Well, he’ll be 95 in Sept., and we all age differently (genetics, stress, both physical and mental/emotional trauma, diet, weight, sleep habits, and the list goes on), so there’s that.

Maybe the pics below of a young/younger Bob Newhart will make you feel better…?!!! 🤔 ;)

Yes, I am aware, I have physically changed since my youth as well. Perhaps as one gets older it's easier to understand how it relates to many of us. We know it's coming but we don't have to like it. It's a whole different life at that time.
However those photo's are all in the past, the present is much harder to take lightly.

Physical aging is a drag. But I'm far more concerned that I have my brain operating on all cylinders, by the time I get to his age. That's waaaay more important to me.
Me too, but it is impossible to not include one's physical being and ones brain function as a package that comes from within ourselves. They cannot be separated. I am on these boards, not because I am considering ever doing the Disney Parks again, but to keep my mind active and to keep up with internet friends and what is going on within Disney, more for curiosity sake then planning or being an active participant in what was once close to being an addiction.

Believe me, I wasn’t making light of aging, I was just trying to lighten up the situation a bit at the time. And yes, I have seen that pic and others of how he looks these days.

We have an 88-year-old terminally ill mother/mother-in-law/grandmother/great grandmother living in the front room of our house, which is likely where she will pass, in about 6-8 months, at the outside.
She has lung cancer, and is too old and infirm to have surgery, or receive chemo or radiation…any of which could kill her outright/sooner.
She was recently admitted into hospice care.
Currently, she is not suffering, but she can do almost nothing on her own, except feed herself…she couldn’t even sign her name on the hospice care papers. She’s also about half deaf and half blind, and that’s erring on the generous side.
Until hospice, we (Carolyn, myself, Matthew and Sarah) were taking care of her exclusively.
Everything from bathing her, changing her, transferring her from her chair to her bed and back, etc. Hospice care is now bathing her, but for now anyway, we’re still taking up the slack.
All of those things involve various amounts of pain for her, and even though she tries to hold back, it is obvious and gut-wrenching for her, as well as us to witness.
Some parts or our house are starting to look like a medical supply store, and we make sure she takes her meds, check her BP, oxygen levels, etc.

On a lighter/brighter note…
So far, her sense of humor is still in tact, she still has an appetite for different foods, and she loves her some Houston Astros baseball, with the season just having started.
We’ve watched baseball with her the last 4 nights in a row (I think I’m now going deaf because of the TV volume ;)), and since things have slowed down a bit at the firm, I took today off to watch the Astros v Royals game with her at 1p, to provide play-by-play as needed, and be here in case she needs anything.
So yea, I was definitely not making light of aging, as she has been living with us for the past 2 years, and I have witnessed her deterioration first-hand.
I was just trying to lighten things up a bit at the time.
I, sincerely, apologize for not making that more clear.
