Paying cash is not as big an incentive for costing less anymore. They will take it and might drop the price whatever they planned in the first place, but they prefer to have you finance as it increases their bottom line if you finance through the dealer.
Yes that's true . With cash , I like to pay cash to contractors doing work in my home. They give me a better deal and they get their money quicker.

We’ve never financed through a dealer, always our credit union.
First rule is when they ask you what you’re wanting to pay, you turn it on them, and ask them what they’re willing to take.
It’s the same when they ask you what kinda’ payments you want. If you’re stupid enough to tell them $350/mo. (or whatever you have in mind), too many are likely gonna’ walk out paying $375, or more.
Have them spit it out first, and if they’re not willing to deal, walk.
Salespeople gotta’ eat, too…!!! ;)

Some car salespersons lie through their teeth so one can play them at their own game. One can say if a good deal is made and I buy one can tell the sales guy I've got ( brother, sister, etc ) also looking for a new car ( ie - you take care of me, I take care of you ).

It was 0.9% APR when I did it and they gave me $500 because I had graduated less than two years prior.

I much prefer interest when someone is paying it to me, not the other way around...

Not sure what that has to do with paying cash, but, OK…
And, if you actually think they lost money on the deal, think again. That’s not how they stay in business.

Things are getting worse with MIL.
She tried to get up by herself again, unbeknownst to us, and fell. She started calling for us. All is as well as can be for now, but, she’s also having night terrors, hallucinations and panic attacks, so we’re just not getting much sleep these days.
Sorry to dump this here. I just really worry about what might happen to her while we’re at work.
The lung cancer is also getting worse.
Again, sorry for dumping this here, but, our brains are fried.

I'm sorry to hear that. Is there someone that can stay with her during the day?

I see you are going to WDW again in October so that is good news!

I wasn't responding to you about paying cash; I was responding to your point about financing through your credit union. I got financing through the dealer, and the APR was very low. I have never seen an auto loan from outside sources with APR that low.

I don't really care how much money the dealer made on it; I only care about whether it was a good deal for me. Of course they have to make money to stay in business. Do you think I'd have a 4.0 from my accounting courses and not understand that basic fact?

And, in years past, we’ve found the opposite is true. We’ve always found a better deal on financing through our credit union. Granted, we haven’t had a loan out on a car in many years, so things appear to have obviously changed.

My statement was mostly rhetorical.
It just sounded like you were suggesting they were paying you to take the car off their hands, and I know you know better.

So Samsung never fixed the financing situation. Not that anyone should be surprised at this point. *sigh*.

I was looking at the shipping information and realized that Samsung's time updates were five hours behind UPS's time. I'm like, why? Then I checked other time stamps on my Samsung account. My Samsung account is apparently set to Hawaiian time, with no way to change it.

Let it be known that I have never signed into Samsung's stuff while in Hawaii, so I have absolutely no clue why the time is in Hawaiian time for everything.

I'm starting to realize that once I get my own house, I'm absolutely going to be the crazy cat lady. 😂

Actually, I want to eventually be able to foster kitties. I see so many that need temporary fosters and I'm like, "I wanna help the poor baby." One recently came into the county shelter that is front declawed, and the owners complained she has litter box issues. AND they only cleaned the litter box TWICE A WEEK! 🤦‍♀️The inner rage...
I thought you might turn into a craze Dumbo Lady like my mom when you become a home owner although my mom has the help of my dad for getting Dumbo stuff.

Thanks.
She’s going to have to go to hospice pretty soon, as things are only going to get worse moving forward.
To answer your question, we are looking into day nurses, but, that can only last for so long, too.
Not sure if you remember, but, I posted about her falling the evening of our first evening in our new home. She ended up in a rehab facility for a month before we could bring her home, and she absolutely detested it. Carolyn brought her food every day, because the food was terrible there, etc.
She’s a good woman from a good family, and has worked her behind off most of her life. It’s hard to see her in this state, compared to how she used to be, and not really all that long ago.
As I’m typing this, she just started having another panic attack (Carolyn is tending to her).

Anyway, before I ramble on more, thank you again.

Lurker here, but I felt compelled to make this suggestion. If you have a local Hospice center/service, it may be worth reaching out to them about your MIL. There are a lot of misconceptions about Hospice care, but they can be an invaluable resource when other treatments are no longer wanted or effective. Care is given in the home, which I believe you have said in previous posts was important for her to stay with you in your home. Just thought it might be worth a look if you feel like you're at the end of your rope. Either way, I hope you are able to get some respite soon. Caregiver fatigue can certainly take its toll. She's lucky to have you all!

My parents and I have all bought several cars since about 2018, me from Honda and them from GM. We have always found better rates through the dealership. Interest rates overall are excessively high right now, so I wouldn't expect them to run 0.9% APR. They were also offering a deal for $500 if you financed through them. I think the lowest interest rate I could find elsewhere was maybe 3%.

It just sounded like you were suggesting they were paying you to take the car off their hands, and I know you know better.
In what way was my statement implying that? Also, you know I'm a well-educated adult who has been in the business world for several years now, so why not assume that I do in fact understand how businesses work?
