Well, a lot of folks had a lot of flooding today, stuck cars, etc.

Not us! Our street remained clear, main roads remained clear. The rain was rarely hard, but it was steady for at least 24 hours. We got over 9 inches in Broward. It was gone by noonish, and we opened both stores at 1PM (instead of our usual 11AM.)

Brian still has a few weeks of school left, but started a job last week. It's not nursing (obviously) but related - kind of a strange position I'd never heard of. This woman owns a business where she checks up on patients at the request of their family members. The patients are typically in assisted living facilities, and the family members are typically out of town/state. It ends up being a lot of repeat patients.

In one case, she and Brian accompanied a woman from the assisted living facility to the hospital after she fell out of bed and broke her hip (among other injuries.) Before the hospital could act, the woman had approval from the patient's grandson for her care, and basically advocated on behalf of the patient at the hospital, making sure she was well taken care of. I had no idea this kind of job existed. The pay is decent. I don't know how long he would stay with it after he becomes an RN, but who knows?

The cruise is booked for early September. I've been reading the whole unofficial guide book. Thinking about staying onboard during the stop at Nassau. The Bahamas notoriously hates gay people, and apparently there's a lot of crime against tourists. It's a relatively short cruise - so I'm thinking maybe we take advantage of the empty ship while others disembark, much like we take advantage of the attractions at WDW while others watch the fireworks and parades LOL.
I recommend staying onboard at Nassau. We did the queens staircase and the fort the first time. It was okay nothing major.
Stay on board and do a palo brunch, highly recommended.

Thank goodness I was worried about how conditions down there were for the 3 of you.

Being a patient advocate can be quite lucrative and it's a growing field so if B enjoys the work he may want to look into it farther. Also the hours are more 9-5 than in some other nursing fields. There's different types of advocates, some work for families that can't be near relatives and some work directly for the patient

I'm so jelly you're getting to take a cruise. Now that's out of the way I think your plan may be the best one for the 2 of you. Can you book some spa time or are you just planning on some well deserved veg time?

Spa time is a possibility. The thing is, I look at the menu, and not a lot seems very appealing to me.

Thanks to our Chase Disney Visa points (I should get a commission every time I mention it) money is no object on this cruise. Still, the way my brain works: we can get massages any time at home from our local chiropractor's office (still paid for by the minor car accident last October) so why bother with an onboard massage?

I think I basically want to do every dining/tasting/pairing event that exists, relax, use the gym, relax, drink alcoholic beverages, sun, swim, avoid children at all the adults-only places, shop, relax...

That is also defensive driving and exactly what is needed to keep everyone safe. Just understand that everyone else is stupid and not paying attention.
Yeah, and it's frowned on here. My first instructor point blank told me that what I was doing was called "defensive driving" and that if I drove like that in my road test, I'd fail. You are supposed to assume that everyone is going to follow the rules and do things the right way, and then react quickly if they don't. You aren't supposed to anticipate potential issues....you react when they actually happen. I'd see someone on a bike pulling up to a light, but not slowing down much, and I'd brake because it looked like they were going to run the red light and dart out in front of me. "Why are you braking?" "Because I didn't think that biker was going to stop." "You have a green light which means HE has a red light and has to stop. Is it likely that he's going to go across there without looking or signaling?" "Well, I saw a woman die because she turned without looking or signaling and she got hit by a car. A lot of bikers don't look or signal." "Well, if you drive like that in your road test, you'll fail. You're too cautious. If you have the right of way, you have to assume everyone else will yield for you."

Yeah....because no one ever got in an accident because someone didn't want to give the right of way. Totally safe.

This cropped up in my Facebook memories... It was taken 54 years ago upon my arrival in Amarillo for basic training. That also makes it 50 years since my discharge. I want to be that young again if we can leave the war part out.

You were as cute as a button back then! :joyfull:

Your barracks (or whatever they called your building) needed some interior decorating -- pictures on the walls would have been nice, and maybe a few decorative pillows for the bunks. But I suppose in basic training they don't want to have any on-site distractions at all for the soldiers. Oh well.

And holy cow, I’m back on the app!

That last post was made on my laptop. Don’t know what jogged my memory, but I did a search for old emails from Steve.

Found one from 2018 that had login info!

I typically sign in using FB, but it worked.
Yippee!! We'll be seeing more of your posts here in the future!

BY the way, glad that you have plans in place for the Sept. cruise. And congrats to Brian on his (interim) job, while he still works on his studies. :)

I wanted to watch it at 230 when it was on in London but couldn't.... YouTube was blocking it. But they had Camilla and Prince Charles trying to be fun and it was hilarious
Yah, bummer that it was not "live" for us to see. (BBC One and ITV? I think it's called, had the broadcast rights.) Yesterday afternoon, I checked the only UK channel I have on my satellite (BBC World) just in case, but they weren't covering it.

Last night at 8, I did catch the repeat of the concert, on ABC. LOVED IT !!!! ❤️ What a lineup -- rock stars, opera (Bocelli), cast from Hamilton, Andrew Lloyd Weber (major musical scores), and on and on. Also, loved that outdoor staging set, lighting, etc. I recorded the concert, as I fell asleep (I always snooze early) -- but will catch up with the rest today. What a festive event it was.
