I know there are 2 distillery companies in Door County and one of them makes moonshine. The 2 companies are called Door County Distillery and another company called Hatch Distillery.

I found that out due to a tv special on door county. I found the Distillery companies due to Door county has a lot of trolley tours with them listed on their website.

I have no idea moonshine is one of the items people sample one of the tours. Keep in mind I don't go on Door County trolley tours.

Although we have other distilleries here, the really famous distillery we have here is Tito’s Vodka. It’s been all over the country for several years now…!!! :)

Did you buy some today for your boys?

I'm getting my share when my Door County trip happens later this month although don't know yet what I will buy. The markets up have bakeries and they include donuts such as cherry donuts and apple cider donuts.

We had Shipley’s donuts at the office yesterday to celebrate, but, I forgot to take a pic…damn “senior moments”…!!!!! :hilarious:

I know practically nothing about alcohol, but I had always assumed that moonshine was something that was outlawed -- at least many years ago, anyway? (Perhaps down through the years a safer method was developed to make it, and was given the "o.k." to sell, by the local authorities. ) Anyway, that's interesting that the distillery offers it for sale now.

Moonshine was pretty much a product of Prohibition. But, too many ways/methods/places it was made back then could make it dangerous to consume. It’s still made illicitly, of course, but, the legal “moonshine” these days is regulated, and not dangerous in that way.
It was/is generally around 75% ABV, whereas grain alcohol is generally around 90% ABV.
I’ve posted before about my summer of ‘81 trip to Seaside Heights, NJ, and how we went to a State Store to buy grain alcohol for that trip. Every evening before we went out to party for the night, we all did grain alcohol shots to prime ourselves…never mind we’d all already been day drinking since the morning every day…!!!!! :hilarious:
How I can still speak/post semi-coherent sentences still amazes me to this day…!!!!! 🤣

I know a little bit alcohol, but less about moonshine. I know alcohol from money standpoint considering Wisconsin is known for its Alcohol intake. I don't think moonshine is not in the same class of popularity as other types of alcohol in Wisconsin. I also know Door County has trolley tours and a good amount of them are connected to drinking including taking tours to wineries.

Door County having moonshine is not a surprise considering Door County is known for cherries and the state government has something called legal moonshine and illegal moonshine. Door County has a good amount of businesses that make alcohol. Businesses in Door County use cherries for different purposes including alcohol. I do know there are more breweries and wineries in Door county than distilleries.

The only stuff I know about moonshine before the door county special is the roots of NASCAR and one of the former drivers was making money off it legally. The other thing I knew was moonshine was made during prohibition. Most of the NASCAR original drivers delivered moonshine with them outrunning law enforcement by car. NASCAR Legendary the late Junior Johnson matter of fact teamed up with a Distillery company back in the 2000s for creating a legalized version of his families recipe of moonshine.

I did a check and former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker apparently signed liquor sampling and measure to fill growlers at grocery and liquor stores back when he was in office. What I did get is Wisconsin businesses can sell legalized moonshine. I did read people did sample moonshine from one of the 2 distilleries in Door county.

Door County trolley tours are popular based on all my years of experience going to Door County in June. Summer months is when Door County usually gets its highest tourism.

Some of those tours do change by year. There are scenic and light house tours, and drinking tours. What I mean by drinking tours is like Door County having a Wine, Spirits, and brew tour. That tour is basically tasting stuff at a winery, distillery, and a brewery and having lunch at restaurant with dessert.

Door County county this year according their website has 2 new tours with the first being called Grand Dining Car Experience. Grand Dining Car Experience is people are able to see landscapes from waterfront, scenic villages to cherry laden orchards through Door County's country side. That tour offers wine, champagne, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, dinner at a door county restaurant, and a dessert while on the dining car.

The 2nd new tour is called Shoreline and charcuterie dining car experience. The Shoreline and charcuterie dining car experience has people are able to see landscapes from waterfront, scenic villages to cherry laden orchards through Door County's country side. While this part sounds like the Grand Dining Car Car Experience, there is a difference coming up. Thee Shoreline and Charcuterie dining car has fine wine, champagne, beer and having a charcuterie plate on board the dining car. There is no dessert or restaurant on the Shoreline and Charcuterie dining car experience.
