Every family is different. And as the times become more and more modern, the problems and solutions are also modern. You survived without one because you had to. So did I. But I can list off the top of my head at least a dozen times in my life that would have been completely different if I could have just called my mom on a cell phone.

My daughter is only five, but I still consider getting her a phone every single time she's at her dad's house. I want her to be able to reach me if she needs me. Or reach him if I have another stroke or something and she cannot wake me up. Every family is different.

I had a pager in high school. 😂😂😂
..and then returned the call from a pay phone.

My first cell phone was at 18, actually no, it was at 19.. I still have it.. looks like a cordless house phone, no “smart” capabilities. Like you said, things were a lot different back then,. And there were definitely times when a cell phone would have been nice in high school., but on the other hand, I wouldn’t have been able to get away with as much as I did.lol. My poor kid is going to have tracking apps.

I never had a cell phone until I was in my mid 20s and that was a flip phone. We all managed and survived without one. In terms of being left home alone or with my younger brother I was 10. Calling the next town pre cell phone was $.05 per minute so we didn't talk long.
Times change.. phones can be tools and a lifeline now.
infact, phones are needed for everything now.

He also constantly complains that he’s “the only kid who doesn’t have a PlayStation or Xbox” 🙄...ummm..you’re not, and even if you are, I don’t care, there is no reason for 2 gaming systems, imo.
We had PlayStation and Wii.

But mostly because the PlayStation played Bluerays and we had multiple controllers for the Wii but not the PS3. Also one lived in the basement and one lived on the upstairs TV. Plus, there were two kids, so with two gaming systems, there were fewer fights if one was on one system and one was on the other.

We do have a Wii! It’s so old.. but it still works!

His electronic/trendy-all-the-kids-have-one devices.. and his list is much smaller than a lot of kids, for sure..

Nintendo Switch.
iPad
Amazon Fire (whatever the newest one is, last one died and bought a new one this year)
Amazon Echo.
Fitbit.
Gaming headphones.
Beats by Dre headphones.
Bluetooth speakers.
- I’m sick of stepping on chargers for all of these things. 😂🤦‍♀️
Yeah, he's minor league compared to me:

-Samsung Galaxy S8
-Surface Pro
-Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook
-Kindle Paperwhite
-Noise cancelling headphones
-Noise-cancelling Bluetooth earbuds
-Mini Bluetooth speaker
-Three Fitbit's (will be four on Friday)

Plus in the house for common use...
-Smart TV
-Five echos
-Wii
-PS3

But granted, I'm a grown woman and bought myself my electronics, minus the household stuff. And I work for a company where I can get my electronics for dirt cheap (my Bluetooth speaker was $10; I think the headphones were $20, my OtterBox case currently on my phone was $5).

When we were in Hershey, Mom and I had to keep reminding each other that we were NOT filling in all the available space. That Disney training is hard to break. 😂
I never filled in the available space. I was always a germaphobe. 🦠

we did enjoy the ineptitude of CMs believing and telling guests they would board quicker if all available space in queue was filled in. As if the seating capacity on any give attraction magically expanded the seat capacity. Look now, because you squished together 8 More rows on Thunder Mountain Trains appeared out of nowhere.

We don’t. Me I’d wait for another bus before I’d be butt to butt with other guests as bus driver ordered guests to squish back even more while standing. Never enjoyed being whacked in the face with other people’s backpacks or shin slapped by tank
Strollers. Nope!!!

He wants an iPhone 11 and Apple Watch, though only 2 of his friends have an Apple Watch, most have Fitbits..nothing against the parents’ decision, but like, why does a 9/10 year old need either one of those Apple products??
Maybe because I'm not a parent, but this would be my reaction...

I do not have the latest model Samsung Galaxy (not an iPhone person) and although my new Fitbit will be a smart watch, no way does a 10 year old need one. Make due with a basic Fitbit.

I cook them in the pressure cooker for at least an hour, let them cool to just about room temperature and process them for twice as long as you think you need to. I put them on before going to bed and make hummus in the morning
So you cook the ones in the cans? Do you add olive oil to it? One time I took the time to remove the skins from the canned ones because I read it makes it smoother. It just takes too long. That is what makes me not want to make it.

So...downer post...

Grandma passed on Sunday evening in NJ.

Yes, “lobster gravy” Grandma. Some of you will get that. She was the best person in my life (for my whole life. Brian got here much later!) She broke the rules and let everyone know I was her favorite.

Services are tomorrow morning, and I “can’t” go. I planned to skirt the FL>NJ quarantine by flying into another state and driving the rest of the way. I know I’m healthy, the only risk was getting pulled over. Fine.

Long story short (and sad) my younger brother is paranoid about the virus (so am I, I have asthma) but to an extreme degree. He talked my mother into it being a bad idea for me to go. She didn’t forbid it, but her intentions were clear.

I’m respecting that, but I’m all kinds of furious (and kind of devastated.) Took me this long to post anything. I’ll probably explode on the political thread later.

At this minute, I can’t see bothering with the family again. (This is just another thing in a long line of things.)

They can apologize in two weeks when I’m still not sick, but I can never get that day back.
