So what DID you cut school for? :p I never cut school. My mother would have killed me if I had ever even thought about it. I was the only senior there on " senior skip day" except one other girl whose foster father was the school guidance counselor.

I only ever cut school once. It was on a Monday during my senior year. My Mom and Pop knew about it, and excused me from school for the day.
We were filming a TV commercial for the local go kart track that I’ve posted about working at before that day...!!!!! :hilarious:
BTW...
The commercial turned out just as AWESOME as any local commercial y’all could imagine...!!!!!!! :joyfull::D:hilarious:

Got three cats here. One is under 3 pounds, one is 9 pounds, and one is 16 pounds. So, I'm willing to consider wagering that I might have both the heaviest and lightest cats around these parts.

The 3 pounder is an 18 year old long hair. She's never been more than 4 pounds and at times was right at 2 pounds. Not nearly as small as you'd think. She's also totally deaf and starting to have vision issues, but amazingly still has a lot of energy and loves to chase shadows and self-pet on my feet.

The other two are from the same litter and are somewhat inseparable. The 9 pounder was the runt of the litter. She's extremely curious and very skittish. The 16 pounder is... well, unique. She's our daughter's cat more than the others and will sit with her at any time and anywhere. Lies on her back and lets just about anyone rub her stomach.

And now you know the whole family. :)

Well, if you're pretty sure you want to go to college and you wouldn't rather learn a trade (ex. Hair cutting, estitician, etc) then you can figure it out in college. My school had you select a major, and then dumped your major courses on you right away so that if you didn't like it, you could switch right away. Other schools might have you start with your gen eds and then have you choose a major.

I was fairly certain business was my route, so I went to school for business admin. The good thing about that degree is that there's a lot of ways you can take it, and now that I've been working, I know more specifics and can go take the extra courses. I did know a girl who changed her major three times in college. I tutored in accounting (really, I should have listened to my professor given that he was right, he told me to switch majors) and so many people switched majors after the first accounting course because some of the business administration courses were finance heavy. So no, your counselors telling you that you have to know exactly what you want to do right out of high school is a lie. A general idea is good, but you're entitled to change your mind.
Heck, I was sure I wanted to be a music teacher. I had always thought I'd be a teacher and by the time I was in Junior High, singing was what I was good at and what I loved and that was my career path. I wasn't sure if I wanted to teach music or perform until 8th grade, I think? The band teacher at the time told me if I wasn't sure, I should go with education, because performers don't need a degree to perform, but once they got the degree, that's all they could do, unless they got a doctorate. At least if you got your education degree, you could teach if you couldn't make a living on performance.

I went to college, got my music ed degree, taught for 1 year and hated it. I have no classroom management skills and I came in as a substitute for another teacher who had major surgery and I was the only music qualified sub in the district. So I subbed for her for over a month, then when her husband was transferred to another state, I took over her contract so she could go with him right away instead of finishing out the year. But the kids knew me as "the sub" and didn't see me as their teacher and it was just not a good situation. I was so glad when the year was over.

There's no guarantee that you will love what you chose, even if you thought you knew what you wanted. Better to change your mind before you've paid for an entire degree's worth of college. And now here's me living in a foreign country doing absolutely nothing with my degree and instead working in a warehouse doing "unskilled labor". I certainly don't regret going to college, but I rather wish I had chosen something a bit more mainstream that I could have had more options with. Singing will always be a hobby for me, not a career.

That's a hard language to learn! I wish her nothing but luck!
Well, she is having fun with it, and she's not doing it for any requirement....nothing to lose if it doesn't go well. It's just for fun. But that's E...she's a complete nerd and loves to learn. I think if we lived in the states, she'd have done really well in a homeschool environment. How does James study Japanese? Is it expensive to do an online class?

I must have seriously strong genes. This kid is my mini me, down to his pasty white skin. 😂
Only difference is I’m a blonde, and I don’t have dimples- at least he got that from his father. Lol

He is so happy to be at the pool with his friends!

Looks like it was worth the membership fee, just for that smile. He's obviously very happy.

I am all ears and I will even add a pair of my Mickey Ears as well if you have a good suggestion for a book. A good fantasy one would be great. Even Little Woman I thought was good.
Have you read the Percy Jackson series? If you like fantasy, that might be a good one. I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and Twilight, but I know those are both controversial and not everyone likes them. The Hunger Games was really good, too.
I would start out with something not too long, but a series is good because if you get invested in it, there's more where it came from, and if you don't, you can stop after one book. You said you liked Little Women, but did you read Little Men and Jo's Boys? They are sequels of Little Women.

Another fantasy series you might like is the Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray. It's got some mythology in it, it's historical fiction tied in with fantasy.

Edit to add:
My daughter is really enjoying John Green books, and she liked This is Where It Ends by Marieke Neikamp, though it's very sad. My daughter just turned 14, so closer to your age than I am. Oh, and C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia.

I can truthfully say that I can't understand that. Sweating, uncomfortable in hot weather because it cost more money has never been a direction I would go. I do set priorities, but life is way to short to not take advantage of comfort technology. When I lived up north it was hugely expensive to run my air conditioners (window). I think it averaged out to about $45.00 per month extra over my winter bill. I would get upset and then remember what I spent extra in the winter. Car engines used more gas, many used snow tires in the winter which was a lot extra, whole wardrobes to fit the weather and on top of all that it cost me $2000.00 per season to heat the place. Comparatively, AC was cheap. Now down here in the summer months my bill runs up about $30.00 per month more. But, no additional costs in the winter unless we get a longer stretch of cool air. I learn years ago to just set my thermostat to one temperature because to me, logically, it was easier to maintain a temperature then to keep making it constantly having to raise or lower it. My thermostat winter or summer is set at 71 degrees. I just switch from heat to cool. Just my method of operation... others mileage may vary.

Yah, different strokes.

Just note that I keep the heat on LOW in the winter, whereas many others hate colder temps and crank up their heat. Heat is expensive, too.

My heating bill is consistently low for the winter temperatures in my area.

OK, so DWifey and I are watchin’ a Hallmark movie called “All Summer Long” (not my choice).
Somethin’ I’ve noticed about all these movies (among many other things ;)), is that the heartbreak of the story always occurs at about 15-20 mins. before the end, and the resolution occurs at about 3-5 mins. before the end...SOSDM...!!!!! :hilarious:

It's nice to have a little consistency. :p

I was one of the 2 students that didn't do Senior Skip day. My reasoning is my parents and I'm sure they wouldn't be pleased if I did.

The thing is the class I way in had 3 or 4 "Senior Skip Days". This happened in the 1990s and I can't remember all the days anymore. The seniors were going to places like the Wisconsin Dells and the Six Flags Great America. Six Flags was less than 50 miles away where I live. I remembered hearing about the seniors going to those to place

The way I looked at it, I came out ahead due to the graduation gift. My parents gave me a WDW trip as a graduation gift. I am not a water park person and does not like to do a lot of coasters in a day.
Well, I wouldn't have been invited to go with the other seniors wherever they went anyway. Senior Skip day was just the day where seniors didn't show up. Most of them went places in groups, but it wasn't like a school organized thing. My classmates didn't like me and wouldn't have wanted me around and I wouldn't have wanted to be involved in whatever immature antics they participated in. I knew when the skip day was, but my mom would have killed me if I had skipped school, and what would have been the point of staying home since I had nowhere else to go? So I went to school and basically had a free day since there was no one else there anyway.

Did she have tryouts at the new gym already? Is she on a team now? Did I miss a post about it? So happy for her!!
Tryouts were Friday and Saturday. Team placements weren’t made yet. They said they will make a decision after they see the kids practice more in the gym. They also weren’t permitting stunting, but will start stunting Friday. I think they want to be able to judge everyone’s skills in different positions. DD has always been a flyer being small and flexible, but they have returners who were flyers also. She knows that she has good skills but there are only so many spots for flyers. Everyone gets placed on a team, it is the position, especially for her, that is what she is now competing for. She said she overheard a coach saying he wanted her as center flyer, but who knows if that was what she overheard and if it was referencing her. The coaches will decide what is best for the teams. She knows that.

Well, good luck to her! Is that what she wants? Center flyer? I'm assuming there are more flyers than just Center? (I actually don't know what a center flyer is or how that differs from any other flyer. We were the "ground bound" squad that we weren't actually supposed to do stunts above waist height because we didn't have a qualified coach to teach us, so a lot of the terminology is lost on me.) I'm just happy for her that she finally gets to go back in the gym and start practicing with other kids! I'm sure that's different than the private lessons.

So since everyone is coming clean about senior skip day....A few of the girls and I decided to skip out early and go to lunch. ( none of us told our parents about senior skip day so we all showed up at school) When we got back to school to go home, the principal called us to the office. He gave us a lecture on leaving school. Apparently, at our school senior skip day wasn’t a thing on your last day. Everyone else did it.🤔🤣

It is!!! He’s going back today with a neighbor’s family/friend. Friends had told me that they will bring him often if we joined, Ive never wanted to do it because it just doesn’t make sense with my job/commute and having Cedar Fair passes, and Soak City has a great pool. But if people will bring him at least 1x per week, and I can go once per week, then it should be worth the price. I didn’t renew our Zoo this past year, and I’m not renewing our museum membership this year, there’s just not enough time for it all these days. No bike/bike rack for me this summer now, though. It was one or the other between bike/rack or swim club. Maybe cheaper ones will come in stock before summer’s end.

Four of us Senior girls skipped a day in late spring . None of us had ever done such a rebellious thing! We went to a local state park to lounge on the beach. A photographer from the newspaper was there and asked if he could take our picture. He “posed” us applying sunscreen to each other’s backs as we sat on a blanket.

It didn’t occur to any of us that the picture would appear in that evening’s paper. The next day was a school day.

We were busted!
