Quick question for the ones of you that have made diy masks. I have elastic, material, and some heat n bond iron on adhesive, thread and needle. Can I use these to make a mask? My DD has my sewing machine so I can't use that. Do you think it would hold up to washing? Thanks guys!

Do you have a laundry zip bag? Maybe if your future homemade mask was placed inside there when going thru the washing cycle it would be ok???20200415_112933.jpg

Yeah, now that most stores are closed, everyone is forced to order online, so internet businesses are swamped. We're 8000 orders behind and we did just under 7000 orders yesterday. So we're more than a day behind. We have a guarantee that if you order by 10:30 pm, your order is delivered the next day, but we just can't make that now. The most we've ever done in one day was 7000. I would imagine it would be worse in the US where a warehouse might be in New York and you have to have an item shipped to you and it has to go to various distribution centers on its way. Here you can drive across the country in 3 or 4 hours, so we don't have that issue, and we're still way slower than normal. I hope the bday stuff gets there early!
I guess it depends on where you are and where the item is coming from. Everyday items from Amazon seems to be getting here quickly; they're just coming from the Baltimore warehouse, but anything that you wouldn't order normally is taking longer to get here. My Outlander books, which are European copies (because I didn't want the ones with the actors from the TV series on the covers; yes, I'm picky) took over a week to get here, but I ordered another book, and it came from the Baltimore warehouse, and it took a day to get here. It just all depends I guess. Anything shipping with Amazon seems to come more quickly; if it goes through UPS or USPS, it goes more slowly.

And Walgreens is incredibly slow. They're bogged down I guess.

It really has. I think for the kids even more than the adults, though I wish none of us were in this situation. It’s not like this is going to be over and quickly forgotten... there will be long term impact in so many areas.

One thing that concerns me is that different states had/have different rules... so there could be kids in other states who are still having sports practice, just not games. I guess we’ll see how this will unfold going forward
I still haven’t heard a definitive ruling on tryouts for baseball or soccer. Imagine not making a team, after making the team the year before, but not playing a single game.
I spoke to the cheer director at youngest's old gym yesterday. She was saying that with the cheer and gymnastics athletes, the amount of time they are gone from the regular sport is the amount of time they will need to get back into the same condition they were before they ended. So who knows how tryouts for cheer will go. My dd was ready to get into level 2, but has definitely regressed. Hopefully if they open up at least by mid May here, (I contacted my state rep again today), they can offer classes or clinics to get the kids back into shape and not overwork muscles that haven't been used in over a month and cause injury.

It’s really so sad for all of these athletes. I wonder what they’re going to do about age brackets moving up. for example, in baseball, the pitching mound is farther back this year..T had several private training sessions where he threw from that distance, but he’s also been pitching for 2 years already., the kids who are a year younger will miss a year, and then still have the mound moved back next year.

T is growing so bored of practicing by himself, we have arguments over it now. He pitches to me when I’m home, or throws and catches a ball, and does bat off his tee to practice his swing, but it’s no the same.

Same with soccer. I just bought a kickboard yesterday from a trainer who is making and selling them.. hoping that will encourage him to work on his pass accuracy and first touch, etc... it can be titled to have the ball come back at your chest to work on that too...that should be more fun than just cone work... but he’s sick of the 1.5 hour training sessions alone. He’s maybe completed 3 total of that amount of time. He likes the Zoom sessions much better, but they’re not every day.

I can imagine that a gymnast of cheer athlete would be falling so far behind where they should be, it’s almost impossible to practice it all at home.

I know you said you have a mat, do you have a trampoline that she can use? It wouldn’t be a replacement, but would help. I used the tramp for diving a lot. We also had a foam pit to practice, but obviously not at home.. which wouldn’t help her. :(

Hand stitching a mask will work just fine just make sure to take the smallest stitches you can and make a second row on top of the first where it'll need more strength. Heat and bond may block breathing
