There is a warning sign for one of my 2 trip spots this year. Before the coronavirus, Door County was already booked for me as a trip destination.
It was announced today the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor in Wisconsin will be closed for the summer for the first time since 1922 due to the coronavirus. The problem is that resort depends on J-1 visa program. The date for those workers to come to the county has been pushed back to June 1, but even that date is highly uncertain.
This is a big deal because a lot of Door County businesses use the J-1 Visa program to fill their employment spots during the summer. Door County in general has plenty of seasonal businesses and shops.
I did not book at the Alpine Resort, but this action should be a concern for people that are booked at places in Door County in general.
Even before today, I thought Door County could be canceled as a trip destination. Right now, Door County does not want any tourists and seasonal residents due to the Coronavirus.
The problem is you are dealing with a county with small towns, villages, Census designated places, and Unincorporated Communities . The biggest city is only over 9,000 people. This is a county that has over 27,000 people as a residents, but get 2.1 million tourists in a great year. That means they are in no position in a medical standpoint to handle additional people that are not residents since a lot of these towns, Census designated places, and Unincorporated Communities don't have hospitals or Clinics besides these communities depend on tourism a lot.
