We volunteered again to help at the DDs pediatric cancer foundation Christmas Bash yesterday, and it was again amazing...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Over 70 families were there...
Each child got $100 worth of Christmas gifts, plus all their siblings got same. But, they don’t know that. All those gifts are collected by their parents in nondescript bags in the back classroom area of the church and we help them get them to their vehicles so the kiddos don’t see them. One family had 6 kiddos, and yes, they got $600 worth of gifts. The mom was apologizing, and they told her no problem, that’s how it works. 3 of their kiddos they adopted, and luckily they drove 2 vehicles to get all the presents into...!!!!! :hilarious: Also, the presents aren’t random, the families make requests, and A LOT of work goes into this. Plus, the foundation also gives the families a bunch of basics...toilet paper, diapers, etc.
In the meantime, the kiddos are havin’ fun doin’ other stuff like decoratin’ cookies, playin’ games, talkin’ to Santa, etc.
Each kiddo also gets a big gift to open at the party. There were bikes, RC cars, etc.
The whole thing was just wonderful, and we’re so proud that our DDs continue to be involved with this as BoD volunteers, and the nice lady that runs the foundation loves them to death...!!!!!!!
I also was the Gator driver to help schlep all the stuff to the vehicles while the kiddos were busy in the church...and, guess who’s been volunteered to drive the Gator again next year...?!!!!! :hilarious:

A few pics...!!! :)

L-R on stage circled in red, DWifey, oldest DD, and youngest DD...again, sooooo very proud...!!!!!!!

Great photo! The only thing that would make it more special, was if there was snow on the ground. :)

Last night the temps here were around 15 degrees, and the sky was sharp and clear. (Yet, another reason to love cold weather.) I also saw the bright full moon up in the sky -- it was awesome!) :joyfull:

:hilarious:
Thanks, Minnie...!!!:)
It was indeed spectacular when I got on the main highway on my way home that night. But, unfortunately, with the way traffic was movin’, and then wasn’t movin’ (the moonrise was behind the hills during the best part), I wasn’t able to get a good pick of it.
So, I just waited ‘til I got home...!!!:)

This is hysterical. :joyfull:

I never tried anything like that on Jack; but on my previous dog, I made her a blanket jacket (very simple cut-out pattern with velcro sewn on. She despised it! :p Also, bought her some booties so her paws wouldn't get hurt from the salt on the roads. She hated those, too! :p

Hence, when Jack came along, I decided that dogs just don't like anything on them! ;)

I made Kapono and my old dog Henry a blanket jacket like you describe too. They don't really like them either. But the jacket barely fits K anymore, that's why I thought I'd make a sweater so it could stretch with her a little. I know she doesn't really like the jacket or her boots but it helps keep her warm when it is really cold out. Plus she looks cute!

I'm not really awake. You don't see me.

It was a record breaking sales day at both stores outside of a major event day. The new location actually did better than my "golden child" location both Friday and Saturday, which is fantastic. I just have to resist over-restocking too much, but also keep the important stuff coming in this week, and do plenty of special orders as needed.

There's an ebayer driving me berserk - he bought two of the same record, but first asked us to take a picture of the actual item (not a stock photo.) My employee obliged, but the guy had already bought the records. Then he responded and said he wanted a close-up picture of each of the four corners on both records.

What?

Nuts.

I said no, they were already packaged up (true.) He went back and forth with emails about how he needed them to be "perfect." You know this is going to be a headache down the line. I offered several times to cancel the order if he wanted, but no.

Anyhoo, around 10PM, I ended up at one of our neighbor businesses, a kava bar, where I go frequently but never show up to their special party nights. Tonight was their holiday party and it was Harry Potter "Yule Ball" themed. (So basically you wear Sunday clothes and throw a cape over it - thanks, Amazon for the $10 cape LOL.) I actually went, it was mostly fun, just got home and going to bed. Probably won't go to another one LOL. I'm not 25 anymore.

Glad you had some time to enjoy that party a bit...!!! :)
Our firms Christmas party is cumin’ up this Thursday. We’re not doin’ the usual semi-formal, White Elephant, fancy schmancy place party thing this year...us high rollers are doin’ a Roarin’ 20’s-themed (yes, we are to dress the part), casino night, $20 gift card per couple, fancy schmancy place this year...!!!!!:hilarious:
And, y’all know there will be pics to follow...!!! ;):)

Just returned from frozen 2.

I laughed so hard at the song of Kristoff. They really mocked the 90's bands with that sequence :hilarious:

Still wonder why Elsa can only handle ICE. I mean.. if she is the 5th element.. shouldnt she use all 4?
When Kristoff told Anna that his love wasn't fragile after just doing a big musical number about how he was afraid they were growing apart, I was like...

That is an amazing effort by so many people. I love reading about events like this -- kinda restores my faith in humanity.

Thanks, Minnie...!!! :)
The giving of our time and treasure is something that was passed down to DWifey and myself from our parents, and we, in turn, passed it down to our kiddos...and, so many other families have obviously done same, as evidenced by all the participants in the effort of all that the foundation does to help families through such difficult times...and, not nearly just the summer “Splash Bash” and the “Christmas Bash”, but so much other help and covering of expenses.
There were also 6 families there that have lost their children to cancer. They have all become part of the “foundation family” and always feel welcome.
It can, obviously, be very heartbreaking at times, but, there are also so very many survival stories. Especially regarding pediatric leukemia. Great strides have been made in recent years...!!!:)
Being part of something like this also gives us some meaningful, and sometimes needed, life perspective...!!!;)
