Bradley Cooper looks like he could be filling the role of Napoleon Solo in the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of the '60s spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. Variety has word that Cooper is currently the top choice to headline the Steven Soderbergh film.

Robert Vaughn starred in the original NBC series as Solo and David McCallum as Illya Kuryakin. They were agents of United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) who fight the forces of Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.).

In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, writer Scott Z. Burns talked about setting the film in the 1960's.

"I thought it would be really fun to go back and look at spycraft in the Cold War and what you could and couldn't do," he said. "When you think about the world in the 1960's just in terms of cars and fashion and the aesthetic, to be able to go and shoot that world with today's cameras and today's technology, I think we could do some really cool stuff. Then also, the thing that was so cool about 'U.N.C.L.E.' that people don't realize--and this is why I like it more than 'Mission: Impossible'--the initial conceit of 'U.N.C.L.E.' was amazing. It was really about an organization that didn't have an affiliation with a country and Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin were guys who should've been sworn enemies. One was Russian and one was American and they worked together. In that way, it was a really incredibly progressive, hopeful kind of show."

Cooper himself, while not yet signed for U.N.C.L.E., is said to have been made an offer. He will next appear in The Silver Linings Playbook, The Place Beyond the Pines and Paradise Lost.

The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today they have acquired U.S. rights to 360, the sweeping new film from two acclaimed artists: director Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) and writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon). With an international cast that includes Rachel Weisz, Anthony Hopkins, Jude Law, Ben Foster, Jamel Debbouze and Moritz Bleibtreu, 360 is a moving and exciting dramatic thriller that dazzlingly weaves together the stories of an array of people from disparate social backgrounds through their intersecting relationships.

360 was produced by Andrew Eaton and David Linde with Chris Hanley, Danny Krausz and Emanuel Michael. The European premiere for the film took place earlier this month when it received the prestigious honor of being chosen as the Opening Night Gala Film at the BFI 55th London Film Festival.

360 was shot on location in Vienna, Paris, London, Bratislava and Rio de Janeiro. Jude Law plays a traveling businessman who is contemplating a liaison with a prostitute; Rachel Weisz, a married woman who is breaking off a relationship with a younger man; Anthony Hopkins, a man searching for his missing daughter; Ben Foster, a ______ offender recently released from prison.

"Fernando Meirelles and Peter Morgan are two exceptional talents that have crafted a unique and truly special picture," said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. "'360' is a stunningly well made film, and a fantastic showcase for some of the most talented actors from around the world."

Said producers Andrew Eaton and David Linde: "From the beginning, Eamonn and his team expressed an immense amount of commitment, both creative and financial, to the film. We're thrilled that this truly global film has found its American home at Magnolia."

Magnolia plans a theatrical release in 2012 in all major U.S. markets, bolstered by a prominent film festival presence leading up to release. 360 will be distributed through Magnolia's successful Ultra VOD program.

John Cusack has joined the cast of the CIA action thriller The Numbers Station, says Variety. He will appear opposite the previously announced Malin Akerman, apparently replacing the formerly attached Ethan Hawke.

Cusack will play a black ops agent who, thanks to past mistakes, has been given the bottom-level task of looking out for a CIA code station in the Nevada desert. Akerman will play a CIA code specialist who is stationed there when the place comes under attack.

Kasper Barfoed (The Candidate) will direct the project, written by F. Scott Frazier.

Cusack can next be seen in the Edgar Allen Poe thriller The Raven and in the ensemble drama The Paperboy.

6-Minute The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue Confirmed

Last week, the rumor appeared that Warner Bros. Pictures is planning on showing a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises with Paramount Pictures' early release of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in IMAX theaters on December 16 (the film has its general release on Dec. 21). Today, AMC Theatres has confirmed the rumor with the additional detail that the prologue will only screen at 70mm IMAX screens and not at digital IMAX locations.

The plan matches the screening situation in December 2007 where The Dark Knight attached its opening sequence to IMAX prints of I Am Legend.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters on July 20, 2012. Check back soon for a full listing of when and where the prologue can be seen.

Will screenwriting maestro Aaron Sorkin get the (Steve) Job(s)?
Comments: Strike Back below!
by: George Merchan Oct. 25, 2011

While SOCIAL NETWORK and MONEYBALL writer Aaron Sorkin felt somehow ill-equipped to take on a Pixar animated film at the behest of Steve Jobs, the A-list Hollywood screenwriter may now end up tackling the late Apple founder instead.

According to LA Times' 24 Frames, Sony is pushing forward with their Steve Jobs biopic, a film based on the just released Walter Isaacson biography Steve Jobs which the studio recently acquired. 24 Frames says that Sony is after Sorkin to write the film. A kind of obvious choice when you consider not only the writer's work on the Oscar-winning SOCIAL NETWORK (a Sony film to boot), but that he had also been acquainted with Jobs (he wrote a brief "In Memoriam" for Newsweek upon Jobs' passing).

Yay? Nay? The story of Steve Jobs is apparently something people really want right now and Sony seems keen on wanting to take advantage of this. Here's a rundown on Isaacson's book in case you missed it the last time:

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years - as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues - Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

According to the trade, the "story follows a married woman who makes a deal to spend three days with a wealthy man in exchange for a loan and must choose between him and her husband." That sounds like a remake of Indecent Proposal, no?

Mandate president Nathan Kahane is producing the film, written by Brian Tucker.

Noyce is also attached to direct Timeless for Relativity with Liam Hemsworth starring. That project is expected to go into production first.

Tom Cruise on Playing Jack Reacher in One Shot
Source: Empire October 25, 2011

There's been some controversy about Paramount Pictures and director/co-writer Christopher McQuarrie's decision to go with Tom Cruise for the role of Jack Reacher in the thriller One Shot, based on Lee Child's novels. Cruise talks about the casting in the new issue of Empire magazine, which features Cruise and his Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol co-stars on the cover (see below).

"Firstly, I'm very sensitive to it," Cruise explained from the Pittsburgh set. "This is Lee's book and Lee's character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn't then I wouldn't have done it."

The biggest issue with fans has been the height difference between Reacher and Cruise. "Lee told me that the reason he wrote him that size (6'5") is because that was just one element to his character, and that opened the door to me playing him."

"Reacher is such a great character," he added. "He doesn't have a cell phone, he doesn't have email. He's off the grid. He pays for things in cash. People look at things through the prism of the colors of their life but Jack Reacher does things the way we want to sometimes. In that sense he's sort of Dirty Harry, a James Bond, a Josey Wales."

One Shot is scheduled for a February 8, 2013 release.

Where Will The Dark Knight Rises Film in New York?
Source: On Location Vacations October 26, 2011

It sounds like The Dark Knight Rises filming will end in a big way with word from On Location Vacations about some of the places that the shooting will be happening. There's some possible spoilers in their report, so read on at your own risk:

One of our readers, RL, spotted No Parking signs for "MAGNUS REX" (TDKR's working title) filming on West 58th Street between 7th and 5th Ave in NYC on Friday, 10/28 for 6 AM to Midnight.

In addition to this new location info, we also heard a few rumors about the big scene they'll be filming on Wall Street. There are expected to be more than 1000 extras used in the scene which will be set in a Gotham that has been taken over by Bane. After months of chaos the cops return and the "good guys" battle it out with the "bad guys" for the streets of Gotham. Tom Hardy and Christian Bale are both expected to be there in full costumes as Bane and Batman. Its also rumored that they will begin rehearsing for the shoot in a couple day at Riis Park.

Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 20, 2012.

Tower Heist star and upcoming Oscar host talked to Rolling Stone magazine about the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise and revealed that a fourth movie is not happening, but a TV series might.

"They're not doing it," he said about a Beverly Hills Cop IV. "What I'm trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I'd do the pilot, show up here and there."

He explained further why another movie didn't work out. "None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn't be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong."

The Star Trek Sequel Won't Be Called Star Trek 2
Source: Access Hollywood October 26, 2011

There aren't a lot of solid details right now on J.J. Abrams' followup to his 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise, but Access Hollywood is reporting one minor bit of information: the sequel won't be called Star Trek 2.

At this point, speculation on what the title might be is just that, though the franchise's cinematic history originally abandoned numerical titles with the seventh film, Star Trek: Generations (the same time the reins were passed over to the "Next Generation" crew). Instead of numbers, subsequent films bore the subtitles First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis.

The article also suggests that the current plan is to put the film before cameras in January with a release date still to be determined.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin are expected to all reprise their roles as members of the Enterprise crew with Abrams back in the director's chair and a script again from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Dumb and Dumber Sequel Hires Writers
Source: Deadline October 26, 2011

With plans for a sequel originally reported by ComingSoon.net earlier this year, Deadline now has word that another Dumb and Dumber film has hired the writing pair of Sean Anders and John Morris.

"We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carrey said this past June. "...There's 'Bruce Almighty' and we're talking about maybe another 'Dumb and Dumber.'"

Now it appears that the Dumb sequel could go first as Bobby and Peter Farrelly want to make it their followup to next year's The Three Stooges, reuniting Carrey with co-star Jeff Daniels.

The original Dumb and Dumber, released in 1994, represented one of Carrey's breakout comedy roles. The film was given a prequel in 2003 with Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

Anders and Morris are best known as the pair behind the comedy ______ Drive as well as the upcoming I Hate You, Dad.

Michael Keaton Sought for Beetlejuice Sequel...

Michael Keaton Sought for Beetlejuice Sequel
Source: EW October 27, 2011

Last month it was announced that writer/producer pair David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith were working on a sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 comedy, Beetlejuice. Today, EW spoke with pair who say that they've already got Burton's blessing and that they wouldn't want to move forward if they didn't think that Michael Keaton would be returning to the title role.

"When Warner Bros. came to us about it, we said the only way we'd do it if we got Tim [Burton's] blessing and involvement, and we got that," says Grahame-Smith, "and the star of the movie has to be Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, and it's a true continuation 26 years later. Not just throwing him in as a cameo going, 'Hey, it's me. I endorse this movie.' We're not there yet, because we don't have a film to present to him."

While the original film spawned a lesser-known animated series, a sequel was planned in the early '90s with the title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton had planned to return as director, but the project failed to develop beyond an initial screenplay. It is currently unknown whether or not Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith's upcoming script will have any crossover with that original concept.

New Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Trailer & Footage Screened!

Check it out:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=83580

New Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Trailer & Footage Screened!
Source: Ryan Turek October 27, 2011

Ethan Hunt and his team return in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol on December 16 and ComingSoon.net was invited recently to get a sneak peek of the action film in an IMAX theater in Los Angeles.

No doubt by now you've seen the teaser released months ago and the new trailer was released today (check it out below!), both offering up a glimpse of the explosive action and the razor sharp dynamic amongst Hunt (Tom Cruise reprising a role he first brought to the screen in Brian De Palma's 1996 film Mission: Impossible), returning character Benji (Simon Pegg) and newcomers Jane Carter (Paula Patton) and Brandt (Jeremy Renner). The two sequences presented to ComingSoon.net certainly shed a bit more light on what's to come, and furthermore, demonstrated just how skillful director Brad Bird (Iron Giant, The Incredibles) is behind the camera of his first live-action film.

Both sequences were shot for the IMAX screen and bookended what producer Bryan Burk says involves a scene in which Hunt's team must prevent the meeting of two people which just so happens to take place at the largest building in the world: Dubai's Burj Khalifa.

Scene one finds Hunt, Benji, Jane and Brandt en route to Burj Khalifa, strategizing their plan. They'll need gadgets. Masks. Pegg's Benji will also need to tap into the building's security. But it's easier said than done, naturally, when the team--cutting a swath of "cool" through the hotel lobby with their suits, briefcases and shades--arrives on the scene.

Benji comes to find that infiltrating the security system's location--cutting-edge stuff situated in a room many floors above the team's--cannot be done internally. Someone will need to physically break into the room from the outside. Patton's Jane is out. She's needed elsewhere. Brandt cannot perform the task either. It's up to Hunt to scale the side of the building, carve an entry through the security room's window and execute the mission.

Hunt has his apprehensions. You can see it on his face.

But they have the right tools for the job: A pair of gloves that can adhere to any surface Spider-Man-style. Courtesy of a light sensor, the wearer knows during his/her climb that "blue" means glue and "red" means...dead.

With the room's window removed, offering the team and the audience a sobering at just how high above the ground we all are, Hunt begins his ascent.

The way Bird choreographs this sequence is enough to make anyone with a fear of heights squirm or, at the very least, get a case of supremely sweaty palms. And in true thriller fashion, Hunt is working against a ticking clock, so time is of the essence.

While Hunt climbs, Benji leaves to help Jane change the door numbers on a series of hotel rooms (again, to prevent someone from reaching their meeting destination). Brandt, meanwhile, watches the seconds tick away. Tick tock tick tock, goes the clock. Thump-thump-thump-thump goes the audiences' rapidly beating hearts.

Oh, and get this, just on the outskirts of the city, a sandstorm is brewing. Moreover, one of Hunt's gloves malfunctions forcing him to resort to another means of climbing. Hunt is assured the sand storm poses no threat to him. But, damn it, that stray, glitchy glove. That glove which--in comedic fashion--swirls in the wind alongside Hunt, stick and unsticking to the side of the building. Mocking Hunt briefly before sailing away over the city skyline - its light sensor going blue, red, blue, red... (A terrific glimpse at the humor Bird is bringing to this film.)

Ultimately, Hunt reaches his destination (breaking the window to get in is no easy feat) and executes his task, however, he now has to climb down. More hair-raising stuff, folks, let me tell you.

Hunt is able to scale his way down the building, but the tether he's now rigged to can not reach his room, forcing him to take a giant leap in hope to make it through the open window safely. Needless to say, he succeeds, but not without a bit of trouble to set your nerves on edge.

The scene--out of context--is really magnificent. Bird is constantly keeping the camera moving, the pacing is tight, reminding the audience of the omnipresent dangers, and something is always happening. Even when the team is just sitting down, prepping for the mission, he's intercutting with a shot of a cool

gizmo carving out a life cast of someone's head so masks could be made. The scene represents a proper blend of the physical action we've come to expect from these films and the engaging "spy" work that the franchise has been built on. And the banter is clever, too; Renner adding a morsel of fun cynicism to the proceedings.

Scene two, apparently taking place many minutes later, is devoid of dialogue and pulses with action.

Hunt is on foot, chasing a target outside of the hotel. The sandstorm has now hit the city and Hunt's pursuit isn't going to be easy because visibility is low. Luckily, he has a GPS tracker (there's a gadget for every scene!). His target leads Hunt through sandblasted streets, through traffic and through a marketplace.

The tracker tells Hunt his prey is doubling back - what Hunt doesn't realize until the last moment is that this target is now mobile and Hunt is nearly run over!

Hunt jumps into his own set of wheels and the sequence now becomes a car chase through a sandstorm. Downright effective stuff.

Using his smarts, and his tracker, Hunt manages to position himself in front of his target, forcing the driver to crash his vehicle. When Hunt surveys the wreckage, of course, the driver is not in the car. Instead, he has stowed away on the back of a passing flatbed truck. Putting distance between himself and Hunt, the target removes a mask, revealing his true identity beneath.

Again, more killer stuff from director Brad Bird. Switching from a foot chase to a car chase in such a confined environment works and it's never confusing; a scene like this could have easily gotten lost in less masterful hands.

Although apprehensive about the idea of a fourth Mission: Impossible, I'm officially on board this sequel having witnessed the early footage. The next day, I spoke with Bird about the film. Keep your eyes peeled to ComingSoon.net for that exclusive chat soon!
