Testing Complete in 2012?

Interesting timing with the completion of Carsland at DCA. Seems to me though that a Cars overlay pretty much buries the original Future World ideal. Unless they have something very clever as part of the storyline.

.... probably something new and bold... :ROFLOL:

Once Nemo came into the Seas, the stage had really been set. It proved you can boost a pavilions flagging attendance with the introduction of recognizable characters. Will be interesting to see if it happens.

I don't think that 6-8 months is long enough for a complete overhaul of Test Track....what do you guys think of that? I do believe that there are enough show elements down/missing/malfunctioning to warrant a long refurb though.

Would be so nice to have audio and video working correctly.

Interesting.

I am not a big TT fan, so I am fine with almost any attempt to upgrade the ride experience.

We all know there are other things in Epcot, and all around the resort requiring more urgent updating/re-imagining. But GM is footing the bill, so therefore this gets pushed to the top of the list.

As for the Cars layover, please Disney, NO!

Agreed. And I guess it may be inevitable because a lot of people seem to have bought into the idea that it is impossible to build futuristic pavilions that don't very quickly become obsolete. While that has been a problem, I think it is largely a problem of poor concepts, vision and design.

If they are ditching the idea of a futuristic theme park, I hope they seriously consider changing the name of this 'land'. "Future World" just won't seem appropriate anymore. That's progress.

That is true about Nemo and the Seas, but has Test Track's attendance really been a problem? It always has a long line and seems to be the second most popular Pavilion. How many more people can the ride handle? Is a Cars layover really necessary?

All in all, let them do what they want to do, keeping a sponsor for a major attraction happy keeps the attraction running which keeps us guests happy.

That line of thinking resulted in the replacement of Journey Into Imagination with the Imagination Institute - "Just let Kodak do whatever they want. Any change is a good change as long as they are paying for it."

EDIT: I don't even like Test Track (in fact, I hate it and it bothers me that other people lavish praise on such a mediocre attraction), but I recognize Disney is not beyond making it worse. I no longer give them the benefit of the doubt, particularly when I hear the new concept would be something as pedestrian as "how we build a car". It boggles my mind that we could go from "The history of travel" (WoM 1982) to "how we build a car" (TT 2013).

Oh dear god no. Please do not add a Cars theme to Test Track, it is entirely unnecessary, its the second most popular ride at Epcot for crying out loud. (And don't get me started on Cars...)

Although I do seem to recall one of the insiders (Martin, maybe?) saying that Cars was not coming to Test Track, but an overhaul was. Should be interesting, but I'd much rather them work on Imagination, put something in the WoL building, update UoE, or plus Innoventions.

If it is nothing more than a cosmetic re-do I think it could be doe in 6 months. Depending on what is being done, I would assume that quite a bit could be prefabricated prior to the shut down. That would drastically reduce the down time.

I will. :D

Parts of this rumor are true. I've brought this up ast year but it went unnoticed by most. I don't know a time frame, cost or dates but it's part of the NextGen program.

The entire queue will be reworked. Instead of visiting a test lab guests will be able to choose specs for their vehicles to see how they perform while on the ride. The NextGen process will use a device to store the information as you travel along the queue adding all of the different options and then you will be able to upload it to your vehicle.

The ride itself will basically be the same save for audio and video. You will see how your specs are holding up under the different circumstances.

In the post show area you can view and email a video (including the specs of your vehicle) to yourself or others.

Haven't seen anything on vehicle changes (although new paint or bodywork could happen) but the track is staying the same this far.

Actually, that all sounds pretty great. Test Track is my favorite attraction, so a little love without ruining it is fine by me. Just no Cars theme please!

Thank you for the information!

I was noticing back in May how bad this attraction needs some work. Two of the features brands have been disbanded in the past two years. The queue test displays are hurting a bit now amongst other things. I would be iffy about what "strictly Chevy" theme can be done and with what cars. Chevy has some pretty heavy media contracts with other entertainment companies on what vehicles can be used how.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that it won't change too much. Test Track is my whole family's favorite ride, from hubby age 68 down to granddaughter aged 7. Beats Soaring hands down. I just hope they don't "kiddie" it down like they did Living Seas. By the way, glad to see my "bailout" money is going to some good use.

so this is still just going to be a typical car ride that i do at home every single day commuting to work? When i go to Disney i want to get away from anything that reminds me of work. Let's use some imagination for the redo. Not just a car driving over bumps and breaking hard.

I've heard of the refurb.
Been told there would be no character overlay. Seas needed the attendance boost Nemo could provide (and an easy to apply, piggybacked show), TT does not.

Because turns banked higher than Talladega is an everyday commute.

I also hope that they do not add a Cars overlay. But something in my gut seems to think that this is what they will do.

I think the only way we would not see a Cars overlay is if GM is still the sponsor and they do not allow it.

The Next Gen stuff someone mentioned above sounds real cool. Making the lines more interactive, being able to do stuff rather than standing around is a good thing.

Building a car could be a good story, of it is done right. We shall see.

I also think that any money spent here should go to something else, like a new Country or Imagination.

But if the sponsor wants to spend money, let them.
