Nooooooooo. Was this a one time thing? How often did they do sponsored night shows? Did they stop cause people hated it?
The nighttime spectaculars- Laserphonic Fantasy and then Illuminations were the sponsored shows. As was every pavilion and nation.
As wonderful as it was, EPCOT Center was the original infomercial. The sponsorships went well beyond a simple "sponsored by..." under a marquee.

I am happy to have more sponsorships and even watch short commercials while I queue if it means we get better attractions more frequently.

If they are, they are not actively pushing it. GotG got done without one. Not sure they pushed it for that one either. SSE redo was going to get done without one before Covid. It seems like if the program is still there they just don't bother to push it because they are fighting evelyrhing you say.
That said, with SSE now covered in LED pucks, a sponsor should be easier to get because they can update their messaging or create mini advertisements easily and connect that to social medial. Not sure why Disney had not capitalized on that for any screen related technology.
Disney stopped pursuing sponsors after it became evident none were interested in it anymore. GM likes it because they have a car showroom at the end, where most other attractions didn't have a way to display the product. In the 80s name recognition was enough, so Energy, Horizon, Life, and Seas didn't have product displays. (Imagination was Kodak and they were the official film anyways.) There's no sense investing time and money into something that stopped producing results years ago

It never meant that though. With Epcot it meant throwing out a lot of concepts to appease the sponsors. It meant delays and cutbacks. It also (IMHO) meant less timeless attractions if you go back and look at what the imagineers originally pitched before an outside interest had any influence. It only barely worked for a time and that time has long since past. As others have pointed out, that model of investment doesn't work anymore.

I’ll defer to experts if the model doesn’t work anymore, but I fell in love with Delta Dreamflight as a child— I enjoyed the ride and I think it inspired a lifelong interest in travel and aviation.

Thank you all for this EPCOT history, I truly had no idea. Can understand how and why GM values this sponsorship. Even we usually stop to peak at the cars each time even if though I could generally care less, lol.

You aren't alone by any means. The living seas did the same for me. Sea base alpha, the hydrolaters, sea cabs, all had a HUGE influence on my love of aquatics and marine biology.

I'm optimistic, pretty much anything could be better than Test Track v2, which was just a bunch of flats. My expectations are more physical scenery, not expecting many blatant WOM homages in it aside from tone, maybe the theme of how vehicles have advanced (could play into how GE wants to lean in to the electric vehicle market) and maybe It's Fun to Be Free. I have a ton of nostalgia for test track v1, it was my favorite ride at Disney World when I was a kid. If V3 is very physical set heavy (like how the concept art had the ascent area that had the laser tree as a forest, which presumably will have big fake trees), I'll be happy.

If those are your expectations, and what I have heard is true, you'll be happy.

I much prefer TT2.0 to 1.0, but I'm excited to (hopefully) see more physical sets and some sort of WoM-esque theming. If Fun to Be Free does end up coming back, that gives me a lot of hope for how the rest of the ride will be handled. It's been a long time since I've been more excited than nervous for an EPCOT project, but I have a good feeling about this one. Hoping to hear more details at D23.

A hybrid of V1 and V3 would be the best...Bring back Fun To Be Free, make it more whimsical again...I love the idea that they may be addressing EV technology...it is very exciting.
