In earlier plans for the space pavilion, the ride would have indeed just been the pre-show to the larger pavilion, only you weren't going to Mars, you were going to a space station--something like the original Living Seas concept but heading to space instead of underwater.

Later said to be partially, aka one of the show stages is already removed. the other is going to be seasonal if I remember correctly.
