Rumor Stitch's Great Escape Replacement— Don’t Hold Your Breath

With Disney buying Fox, does that mean they now own the Alien/Aliens license?

Yes.

Ridley Scott was saying in an interview a few days ago that he hoped Disney would allow him to continue with his plans for the franchise; after Covenant, I'm hoping they won't.

Going back to the original Nostromo concept for this attraction would be interesting and lends itself to a potentially very claustrophobic and scary experience, Disney would never do that though.

Right idea, wrong park.
Imagine putting that at MGM and theeir building it as a super fast-paced shooter ride on the Indiana Jones EMV platform.

Or heck, if they're built such a thing at Disney Studios Paris maybe they could even get away with some moderate gore, and have your vehicle come across some hatching events.

Site that musn't be named reported that all Stitch audio has been removed from PeopleMover spiel and the attraction sign is no longer being lit up at night.
That's a "good" sign but maybe we should wait for the actual Stitch sign to be taken down before we all declare the attraction as "closed for good"? I mean, it isn't hard to turn some lights and audio back on.

Except they already did and it was to great effect. The only thing that would keep it out is the fear of reverting and that the attraction would be massively out of place across from a comedy show and shooting gallery aimed at children.

Pretty sure they shut the Stitch audio off previously when it wasn't open. Can't remember about the sign.

Until they demo the theater... which could be at any time... there's always a chance it will reopen at a peak time.

The difference being now that Disney would have a famous franchise and arguably the most iconic monster in the history of film at their disposal with which to bring back such an attraction, which I imagine might appeal to current management.

I agree it won't happen, particularly in that location. I'm not even much of a proponent of bringing more IP's into the parks beyond what has recently, and is currently, being added, I've just always regarded the original Nostromo concept for the attraction as something of a lost opportunity because the original Alien film is one of my favourites of all time.

There isn't anything wrong with the ride systems at MK...most of the changes have been cosmetic over structural. The problem is the theming has gone to more "children" focused IPs and theme.

If You Had Wings->Dreamflight->Buzz Lightyear...the omnimover system is the same, but went from a serious look at the history of flight, to a cartoony history of flight and is now based off a childrens IP. Arguably, the ride is more interactive, but the theme is now based on a childrens cartoon. Not even based on the Toy Story name (which has adult appeal), but on the Space Rangers, which is a childrens spinoff cartoon.

Pirates went fro fairly dark and viscous to lighthearted and tame. The Pirates no longer chase the women, they aren't in town to pillage and loot, they are looking for Mr Depp and his map. The whole feel of the ride has gone from all ages with a mature theme, to kiddy cartoony.

Circle vision->Timekeeper->Laugh Floor...Same as Buzz. From highminded "edutainment" that was interesting and engaging to all to an IP based on scary monsters that want to make you laugh.

Heck...Stitch is one of these stories as its a dumbed down AE that lost all the charm and specialness of the original.

MK, while keeping similar rides, has morphed from a family park to a kids park.
Space Ranger Spin was made years before Buzz Lightyear of Star Commanded existed.

Too bad stupid guests ignored the numerous warnings. But we digress.
I think they might have read the warnings, it's just there wasn't enough warnings. For example, this sign:
ae%20warning%20sign%20retouch.jpg

It says it takes place in a confined space and total darkness, but doesn't warn about any of the sensory effects, the dark nature of the ride or any other concerning part of the ride. To a parent reading this, they may think it was similar to snow white's scary adventures, not something that was truly terrifying for all age groups.
Interestingly enough, stitch does warn about the sensory effects when Alien Encounter didn't

- along with the signs on the wall in the holding pen, at the pen entrance, in the guide map and the CM specific instructions to remind groups with children of the warnings.

Actually Alien Encounter did give the same warnings about the sensory effects:

...and the fact it literally had TERROR in slightly bigger font too. Probably wouldn't make a difference though. I could picture someone complaining to a CM saying "That show terrified my 12 year old kid" and the CM responding by placing their hand under TERROR in the name and then pointing to all the warning signs. Literally no need for words.

WondersOfLife

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
⬆The stuff of nightmares.

I did like Timekeeper though. Solid concept just executed a bit late with outdated tech. I'd welcome it's return. Might be my nostalgia-goggles but I remember liking it. Can't say the same for Monsters Laugh Floor.
I always get a fun hoot out of laugh floor! The audience is always belly laughing (Except during Mike's cousin's sequence. Thats not too good). It's just a really fun attraction! Also a great people eater.

Overlooking the obvious reasons why A.E. closed; Do you think the building location played a role in it's demise? I'd like to think that it would have survived (at least a bit longer) had the theater been situated at the back of Tomorrowland near the "big-kid" thrill rides. Maybe in some parallel-universe MK still has A.E. only it and Carousel of Progress have swapped placed.

The theory is flawed however because swapping a scary ride for tame ride should have created the inverse. Turning a negative location into a positive one. Stitch by all accounts (assuming the ride was well received) should have done well being one of the first attractions guests see entering Tomorrowland from the hub. But it eventually closed too.

In A.E.'s case I think location was partly to blame. For Stitch; it was just a sucky overlay. Stitch was/is? in a prime spot and still flatlined; I'm thinking it probably would have closed sooner had it been located elsewhere in Tomorrowland.

Are we doomed for a three-peat or is it a "third times the charm" scenario? I look forward to seeing what they do with this space.
