Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I could be wrong, but I don't feel like any of the insiders have suggested that they have heard information that Star Wars is going to the SoA/LMA area, but rather that no one can seem to confirm that it is still going to be at Echo Lake. Feel free to correct me @marni1971 @Ignohippo @MansionButler84 if I am wrong. Has anyone heard actual rumblings that there was a shift?

Actually, I'm kind of wondering if @articos knows anything, as this seems right up his alley.
I can't say anything. Not on Star Wars, not this early. The DHS overhaul is getting going, so things should become apparent pretty quick.

If they were to put Star Wars in the back, it seems we will say farewell to phase 3. For so many reasons...but it seems impossible to reduce the amount of parking to build anything (including more parking) once star wars opens. As much as I want star wars, to me if we really want this park to be everything we want it to be, they need to take their time with star wars. But that possibility looks bleak now. I don't thank Shanghai for this...I think it is both Chappie and the need for fans to have star wars now rather than waiting for the right plans to be done.

The parking issue could be solved if they build a garage on the section of wetlands that is being re-claimed. That would provide enough capacity to take away some of the existing surface lot.

They could tell the cast members to park at epcot and start construction whenever they wanted, right?

Correct. And I assume that will be the "official confirmation" that Star Wars is still going toward the front of the park. If cast members are suddenly told they'll be parking at Epcot indefinitely (they usually only get a few days notice before a parking change), that would indicate that there are imminent plans for construction in the cast parking lot and that more than likely one of the expansions will be going there (and it obviously won't be Toy Story).

Ok here's another possibility. It leaves Muppets as an island which I think is unlikely but it fits the current theories and evidence.

this is 14.12 acres

If star wars is going in the parking lot, wouldn't that mean DHS isn't behind Disneyland in construction progress? Because in DL all they are doing now is clearing land, but with the parking lot there is no need to do that.

The land would be 14 acres without Star Tours.

Ok edited to not include star tours.

BLX has been rumored to be the new location for the cantina for over 2 years. there's been talk of a street like area with shops and stuff that would work well in the New York street area. The new artwork for Toystoryland depicts what appears to be the end of Starwars land on the edge of the artwork and it would make sense from a story perspective to have the tall star wars theming at the back of the park to create an immersive vista from the former New York St area. It also helps that the land in the star tours area of the park is about 15ft higher in elevation than LMA which offers them more options on varied terrain. As for the New York street area it's been mentioned by a few people on this forum and I have confirmed it with other sources that some of the SOA facade structures (not the faces just the steel skeletons) are staying which would make sense if they want to build a street scene and save some money.

That placement is beyond awkward.

I won't disagree. But he makes some good points and it makes sense. I would have preferred it in the front of the park with room for expansion but all signs have been pointing this way lately. Sadly I think that means no phase 3 either.

I agree but having worked in the park I see no way in which they would be pushing out into the parking lot as they would have to move a hell of a lot of infrastructure including costuming, a parade building, entertainment cast areas as well other things while simultaneously loosing off stage access to the front of the park. With the unorthadox plan I posted they could maintain access to the front of the park and with some changes to the muppets gate area they could add off stage access (via a bridge) to the back of SciFi, ABC commissary and GMR which they have struggled with for years which would also have the added benefit of creating that tunneled entryway that's been mentioned a few times.

There will be room for a phase 3. The back half of LMA and the Catastrophe canyon area will be ripe for that and they will have room to push out towards the old entrance once the new one is built over by ESPN complex/ Animation resort area. Keep in mind that this would be a post 2020 project most likely however.

I recently was at WDW and this seems to line up perfectly with what a cast member told me. This CM was working in Watto's Grotto, (a Star Wars pop-up shop on the top of SOA and near LMA) and said that the store would be closing in the middle of April. HISTK playset is also closing mid-April, and WDW would not needlessly close down one of the few places in the park for younger kids without really needing to. Add onto that the shuttering of LMA, and something is obviously going on in the top part of the park. The CM said that SWL construction was starting "in the next month" (he said this at the end of March) and would be located around LMA and SOA. He also said that the Muppets would stay put, which is yet another thing that lines up with your map ^. He also said that there would be a full size Falcon (we all knew that already) but that there would also be a full-sized X-wing and a full-sized imperial shuttle (he claimed it would be the "real kind, where the wings go all the way up and almost touch, not like Kylo Ren's" whatever that means). Also, when I was there, a construction wall was put up bordering Cypress drive around Muppets and the back of SOA. I think Phineas and Ferb meet and greets and a coffe cart used to be there. Keep in mind that this SWL info is just what I heard from a CM and I do not claim to perfectly know what is happening, just thought I'd relay what I learned.

But having SWL in the top part of the park makes sense. As someone above said, WDI can repurpose the frames of SOA for the "street market" area we've seen in the concept area. Putting this fully immersive land (with seemingly high mountains surrounding it) probably wouldn't work great around the Echo Lake/parking lot area as it would probably be pretty out in the open. Also, the fact that there are so many closures in the LMA/SOA area really leads me to believe that that's where SWL is going to be.

I don't think this spells the doom for a "phase 3" though. They could still expand out in the echo lake/wetlands/parking lot area for something, or possibly go up to the backlot tour/catastrophe canyon area. Although I really hope they fix up Future world before they do a HS phase 3.
