Star Tours 2.0: DL Spring 2011, DHS ???

So in today’s update, Al Lutz says that Star Tours 2.0 has been greenlit and will appear at DL’s Tomorrowland in Spring 2011. This goes along with the change (from 2010) he announced in his March 3 update.

What’s confusing, is where WDW stands for Star Tours 2.0. In March, Al said that TDO had balked and was no longer in the process for getting the new version, but that OLC had filled their shoes in the budgetary process, leaving ST 2.0 for DL and TDL, and presumably WDW high and dry.

While today’s update is not clear as to what, if anything, is coming to Orlando, it does include this statement:

“You can also thank George Lucas and his creative team for refusing to give in on Orlando's proposal to scale the makeover back for East Coast audiences.”

Whether that means WDW will be getting the full-blown DL clone, or nothing, I have no idea. Anyone know?

Not really anything much to know now. I presume a change to Star Tours is coming, sooner or later. If it does, I would like to see something original, not a clone. I like our version of Star Tours as it is, though.

Thanks for the update, by the way.

Last I heard (couple weeks ago) WDW was geting the full ST2.0 treatment, on pretty much the same timeline. Think ready for SW Weekends 2011.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I really couldn't care less if it's a clone or not.
I don't see how we could possible NOT get Star Tours 2.0. The current iteration is bordering on laughable, especially the preshow movie...

I would love to see SW updated. My 6 yr old absolutely LOVES the current one, but when I go on there, it just looks so old and dated. The movie is so grainy, which compared to today's digital movies, it just feels like a relic.

I do think one of the best things they did at SW was to remove the Darth Vader figure at the end of the exit hallway. When we went on it back in the early/mid '90s, my sister saw it as we left, totally freaked out, ran away from us all the way out of the store.

Interesting... my husband will be happy to hear this one!

So, how long would a refurb like this take... how long would the ride be down for?

I love the themed queue, and the ride is all right, but that preshow movie is laughable. Overall the attraction is past its prime and a nice refurb update will be great.

And I've never once seen a Star Wars movie...but look forward to something new here.

Man, I hope they don't gip DHS of the full blown version. It is so disheartening to hear about how ready and willing they are to slack on quality to save a buck.

On the other hand, having worked with George Lucas in a Disney capacity he is nothing short of SUPER CONTROLLING of any of his property in the parks.

I can confirm that this is absolutely true. TDL, Anaheim and Orlando have, for all intents and purposes, been green lit for a few months now.

Not this again.

Al went with a rumor that was at best dubious a few months back and now he can't just admit that and move on. The idea that this ride was going to be designed in a cheap and deluxe model is laughable. I think he was still fuming because the WDW queue for TSMM and the entire Pixar Place concept ain't going to DL. But then WDW will never get RSR as I've been saying. By the way, the fact that WDW won't be getting RSR was confirmed today.

Thanks for confirming the ST2 news whylightbulb.

While I despise the way Al writes, he's usually pretty good with his rumors.

Glad to hear he was dead wrong on this one.

You may be right. Or wrong. But according to Al, TDO's balking is what pushed it from a 2010 to a 2011 opening. If that's true, we're getting 2.0 a year later than we could have.
