SSE Reviews

am simply commenting on how I said many, many, many times that this exact scenario would happen.

This did not happen for The HM refurb???

So you can only ask your-self why it did not happen to the HM refurb but has happend to the SSE one. Maybe because one was great and the other not so much.

My family and I squeezed into a soft opening yesterday (Saturday, Dec.8th). We liked the changes to SSE. I liked the new voice narrating. She did a great job. The hubby and I felt the AA peeps in the scenes seemed to have more movement and the movements were smooth. I liked the part where they entertained you during the decent by getting you involved with the question/answer thing. It made for lots of possibilities for the little movie they show you for the future based on your answers. I know the mini-movie I saw was different than what the DH and DS10 created. It was cool. I enjoyed it. And the driving game in Project Tomorrow was really neat. DS11 who had been going thru PS2 withdrawls all week had a blast. :)

I didn't read thru this thread to see what others thought. I guess there's been some sort of a tiff (on this board??? go figure!). We just got in and I wanted to share. I was oober excited to catch the soft opening. We enjoyed the updates. Not disappointed at all.

Something to always keep in mind: if you keep your expectations low you're less likely to be let down. Hope for the best but never expect it. The SSE changes are nice. It's not an entire new ride but it's neat and I appreciate it for what it is. :)

Oh people complained about the HM refurb. It just wasn't as boisterous.

Also, there are a lot more Epcot fans than HM fans. There is this misguided group of people that feel anything that changes in Epcot is an affront to them and they must do whatever they can to prevent that.

You can't name any change at Epcot (short of the small changeovers at Innoventions) that you can't find a group of people that will tell you how thats the end of TWDC as we know it.

Every single changed attraction has a large outspoken contingent that is against the change and wants it undone.

If this SSE is as bad as everyone makes it out to be, then how is Disney to judge when there are so many nutcases on here that will tell you how adding Nemo to The Seas ruined the pavilion? And how Food Rocks was better than Soarin? Need I continue?

I was oober excited to catch the soft opening.

Just for future reference.

There were very few complaints about HM and PIrates. Use the search here and you will see for yourself.

Anyway, we arent here in this thread to discuss how and what is complained about, we are in this thread to talk about Spaceship Earth and it's refurbishment. Please stay on topic, or dont post in this thread.

I'm only judging on the majority though...

You will find one or two people in EVERY aspect of life that do not like something; there will always be one or two.

How-ever if you were too ask the majority of people on this forum "Food Rocks or Soarin" I am 99% sure the answer that would come back would be Soarin.

If you were to ask this forum no Seacabs or The Seas With Nemo and Friends once again I’m sure the answer would come back The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

Now if you were to ask M:S or Horizons I’m sure it would be a more close run thing because Horizons was such a great attraction but M:S is not too shabby either so.

As far as I can see this SSE refurb is one of the only times on WDW Magic where the majority of people are disagreeing with what Disney have done, or at the very least appear to be doing.

Yep I would agree with that. As you say there are always negative people who hate everything, but with this refurb, it does appear to be the case that the majority are not happy with what they have seen so far. Check out the polls that we are running.

Just a report in from Epcot. SE was again running previews tonight, with no obvious changes from previous days. No researchers were spotted at the exit. WDI were spotted in the front queue area.

WDI were everywhere at SSE, some were even over at Imagination. I think most people here are seriously overreacting. It's nuts! They opened the ride to get touch screen feedback, they aren't going to leave hanging black sheets with fiber optics in the beginning and ending of the ride... the sheets were loose, obviously covering something. The 360 was not done, the matrix had construction lights on the scattered all over the floor, the ascent had sawdust and many, many tools all over the place, as did the descent.

The first half of the ride was simply awesome! The costuming department could not have done a better job. The costumes were outstanding. The score was forgettable, in the background, quietly... I'm not even sure there was a score... (totally kidding ) Love that Dame Dench, wonderful narration, not completely light-hearted, but not as retro-creepy as Irons or Cronkite. The detail in the new scenes is nuts! The family in the 60's living room left behind a game of MouseTrap to crash and watch the moon landing. The generic Woz in the garage ordered pizza because he didn't even want to worry about food, all he was thinking about was his potential of changing the world with his new PC.

It was awesome, guys. Those who aren't nit-picky or clingy to old stuff will enjoy the updates. I am lacking cohesiveness and composure at the moment. I'm really really tired. If this post makes any sense to you, congratulations. I will probably edit this tomorrow. :)

Oh, I forgot to mention the new Greek animatronic that replaced the actors. He is NUTS! It was amazing, such fluid movements and just.... I don't have the words to describe it. He is really great. Jack Sparrow would be embarrassed. As are all of the other animatronics. Think what you want about WDI, but you can't deny their engineering skills. The monk actually looks like he is writing, the painters are actually painting. Awesome, simply awesome.

Ok I agree there are much bigger problems to fix and worry about. I guess I just meant that little lit coastal Phoenician scene was a nice magical touch. But ok on to the descent!
While the descent is the main concern, I always felt that little far off ship REALLY expanded that scene three-dimentially, and I always checked to see if it was there as it added a sense of mystery (who is on that boat, where did they come from, and what are they doing? OK, I'm weird).

It's little details like this that make everyone appreciate the ascent so much (the new animatronics were just the cherry on top)!

The ships in Pirates load station give me the same feeing

Rest assured, it's not weird to bury yourself in the experience. But good luck doing that on the descent. You won't have anything to think except, "Why did ANYONE think these screens would be a good idea?" :animwink:

First, I have to point out that I think 'reveiwing' a ride based on watching a ride through video? Not really appropriate, sorry. It's a much different thing when you're actually there on the ride.

Second, I rode SSE twice tonight. We were in line for over an hour and it was around eightish when we were let in. I saw no research but did see WDI wandering around but not talking to guests. I put up a more detailed review in the sticky SSE preview poll part 2 .... http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showpost.php?p=2627299&postcount=24

It's. A. Soft. Opening. The ride is not done. I have to believe that they'll be finishing/adding/changing stuff on the descent before the official opening.

Finally, the bickering on these boards is ridiculous at times. There is a fine line between discussion/debate and bickering/arguing, and I think a few of us might be toeing the line, especially re: SSE. Some of us are downright venemous about this refurb, and I think it's a bit OTT. Lighten up. I love the ride. I love Disney. Nothing they could do to this ride - including getting rid of it - would make me hate Disney. I'm lucky enough to live near Disney, go on a regular basis. I have my family, my health, my home, and three amazing cats. My DH loves me, I have a fridge full of food, a stable income, and a safe car. And I am practically surrounded by world-class theme parks full of idiots spending money and helping to pay our taxes. What else could I want?

Do you really think so? For me, he's good, but not anywhere near in the class of WDIs best animatronics. I certainly dont think Jack in Pirates has anything to worry about at all in my opinion.

I rode SSE the morning of Dec 8. While I was hoping to see survey takers at the exit, none were in the post-show area, so I left without being able to voice my opinion to WDI. Perhaps that was best as the ride obviously isn't finished yet. I will hope for the best in Feb.

I agree with her. The new AA's are moving great and were REALLY well programmed. That should be noted, these are brand new auctoneer-grade A 1000's that move amazingly. They just have the old faces we know and love.

I mostly agree with you.

I have one word to describe the Spaceship Earth refurb... underwhelming. The animatronics look good the new scenes are decent but there is no audible score traveling with you through the attraction and the video screens are horrible. They could and should have done better.

I have to agree! Underwhelming is the word I have been searching for. Very dissappointed in the whole descent. If that's the final scene (I hope it isn't) it seems that it was a cheap way to complete the whole second half of the attraction. Focus people's attention on a screen in front of them instead of the space around them. Sometimes, new technologies is NOT the way to go. Sometimes, good old fashion dark ride scenary is what is called for.

Let's pray for an improvement.

funny, i was thinking the same thing about the pirate ship when i was there in Nov
:)

IMHO I've always felt that the latter half of SSE has been a lil dissappointing. I've always just loved seeing the travel through history. Hopefully they'll keep plussing the ending and we'll all be smiling come Feb!
