I think the story about her on set and lucas is being all distorted. all she said was she was there in costume... they could have just been doing tests, etc... and people are taking the comments to be like Lucas was there the whole time, or Lucas was there supervising her stuff, or other stuff.

All she said was 'I was there that day that photo was taken in costume'

Just saying that Lucas was there for a visit - which he does often -

So I was poking around Reddit last night and either in the starwarsleaks or mawinstaillation subreddit came upon a discussion that I found interesting. Currently there is no director announced for Chapter 16 and from what they (reddit) has been able to tell no one not Disney, Dave, or Jon has commented on who the director of that episode will be. Even going as far as specifying it was WRITEN by Jon Favreau but noting that he did not direct. So the question is why so secretive. The THEORY on reddit anyway is that its George Lucas is making his triumphant return to Star Wars. As you both kindly point out he has been on set often, has taken great interest in the story and is Dave Filoni's mentor, so maybe its possible. I highly doubt that this is the reason but I found it just crazy enough that I wanted to share with all you good people!

I could totally see it.

Yea, it really isn't that far fetched. It would be a safe and easy way to bring him back in. He gets to be involved, you get a nice publicity opportunity and an opportunity to bring him back on as a consultant. It really would be a win win.
Well I thought that...until I saw he said again yesterday that billions of fans were “too stupid” to get bad acting/directing/dialogue

So the article references the quote in the book, and the book is new. However it does not say when the quote was given. The book is about the making of the prequels so it probably covers some of the controversy around them as well. The content of the quote is not anything new. George has made it no secret that he does not care what you think his movie it is his movie so if you don't like that tough nuggets. He has also said countless times that the movies are Space "Soap Operas" with a Buck Roger's serial feel. My opinion is the authors found a "new" quote and no one passes up a good click bait headline of George bashing Star Wars. But I have not read the book so maybe my opinion is off base.

Yea, I read that article. I wouldn't expect Lucas to come out and say he messed up. He's never been that kind of guy. We all know that the prequels, and especially ep2, had issues. Hayden and Natalie made weak dialog just awful. But if Lucas came back, on a consultant basis, I wouldn't hate it. He will be on his death bed saying the prequels were a masterpiece, I just don't listen anymore. But I think he can still contribute to the overall vision.

He always said that...and I used to question him less for it. But in the last 10 years or so some of the quotes from documentaries and coverage of the Hollywood press lead me to believe he wasn’t being entirely honest. I think it was more about what happened in the original trilogy and how he was taken out of the role of “artist” and he resented it. The prequels and “total control” really fits that scenario.

Maybe, just maybe, George Lucas has a better idea of what Star Wars is than people on a message board.

Except he didn’t manage to prove it. Just maybe trust your eyes. Same with Disney and it’s reboots. No need to litigate...the truth tells its own story over time.

I fully agree...and i don’t think I would have touched it 3-5 years ago.

Star Wars is in full on rebuild. Lucas is an obvious way to that end.

My opinion only. Said it (many times)...stand by it...now on to the hunt. 🐕

Yes, he is the creator, it's his vision. But at the same time, that doesn't make whatever he does great. He created a pop culture phenomena with the original trilogy. Of course it's his choice what he does with the franchise moving forward. He has zero obligation to the fans. But guess what? The fans have zero obligation to like what he created, especially if it isn't even close to as good as what came before. So do people on a message board know more than Lucas about star wars? No. But we know what horrible acting and dialog look and sound like. We also know what happened in the OT so we know all the contradictions Lucas gave us in the prequels. So in a way, the fans do know more about what's best for star wars. Lucas will never admit he might have screwed up with the prequels because he is still so mad at the fans for the backlash he got. I still think it's part of the reason he sold it.
