Splitsville

I am the opposite. I have never gone to Disney's courses and don't miniature golf ... well, ever. I did when I was like 12. But the entertainment wore off. ... Bowling is the same way. There's a Splitsville in Miami. I suppose I could be spending a Saturday night there instead of watching a two-year-old animated film on ABC Family while skimming Disney fan forums and getting TT/WDW updates from another MAGICal member who is at the world as we speak (as of 7:30 tonight, Mermaid had a 130-minute standby line ... utter insanity for a ride that I've never waited more than 15 minutes for in Anaheim, even on a holiday weekend!)

If it's any consolation I am also spending Saturday night watching the same animated film on ABC Family while skimming Disney fan forums. :)

No. :(

But it's funny I have a California Pizza Kitchen near me, but the only time I have ever eaten in one is when I was on vacation in California.

The first time I ever ate in one was here in FL ... but this one is much more upscale and had all sorts of exec/management types in from the home office (which I believe is in the OC of SoCal). In dozens of meals over the years at CPK, this was probably the best by far.

It looks really good, but since it is a bowlin alley, I will probably only set foot in it once just to check it out.
I mean who wants to go bowling on vacation?

I see that you got attacked for this comment...but I think your point is valid.

When my family is on vacation, we end up spending most of our non-park time by the pool. Going to Downtown Disney is not a thing we do on every trip. It might be a "once every three trips" experience for us. We're not big souvenir shoppers and we like the restaurants at the resorts and in the parks better.

I think if my son and daughter were down at WDW by themselves (they are in their 30s) that they'd maybe go to Splittsville with their friends...or just to be around their age-peers. That could be something they'd do one night if they don't want to just relax by the pool.

So, I am with you in thinking that going bowling is not something my family would do on vacation...but there must have been some kind of study done with focus groups and they determined that Splittsville would be a hit with some demographic groups (just not with MY family and families like mine). It looks like your family would not make use of Splittsville either, but that's okay because not everything offered as entertainment is for everyone.

For instance, the fireworks shows are not a big deal for my family either...but some people make those the biggest part of their day in terms of excitement. Fireworks are something we see back at home ALL THE TIME for one reason or another...so seeing them in Florida is no big deal. I like taking advantage of when the fireworks are going off to get in short lines for attractions while others are staring at the sky. That's our family's tradition...to ride a bunch of stuff while other people are distracted!

I also think that Splittsville is also geared towards people who work in all the parks or live in Orlando. Feels like it will be a place where they will hang out and have fun. Could end up being very lively. Maybe they are trying to recapture some of the energy of Pleasure Island back in its heyday.

It will probably appeal more to the longer term vacationers (10 days or more), the snowbirds, the locals, etc. Ever since PI died, I am guessing that they are attempting to bring in more night time entertainment, but control it, so that it isn't a club scene with drinking only. I get it. I won't be going there, unless we move to Florida at some point.

This was a very astute take on it. I agree completely.

My family typically goes to WDW for 5 nights/6 days. Once, we went for 8 nights/9 days and one other time we did a super long trip (for us) of 9 nights/10 days. Honestly, that was too long in Orlando for us and we started wanting to come home...which is a weird thought, but we're just not long vacationers. We'd rather do three small trips a year than one long one.

On our stays that were longer than 5 nights I think we might have started to give bowling a thought...because on the 9 night trip we actually went to see a movie one night. In never thought we'd do that on vacation, but we did because we just wanted to get out of the hotel and didn't feel like being in a park that night. So I think for us any trip longer than 5 nights ends up having potential to do something like bowling or a movie or whatever in Downtown Disney.

But, my family is not a "longer term vacationer". I think we'd safely be called "mid-term vacationer" since we're a 5 nights/6 days type family.

That's nothing. Legend of Jack Sparrow--from what I hear, a B ticket at best?--had a 90-minute wait yesterday afternoon. And that didn't have a "grand opening" all over the local news this weekend.

I guess all it takes to get people excited now is the word "new" on a park map.

Was the park really that busy?

It's more of a resturant/lounge... that has bowling as a diversion. If you are adults looking for meal+entertainment.. that is what draws you here.

That's the business model. Instead of being a sports bar (aka bar + TVs) its a bar with bowling on the side as it's gimmick.

Because you need more friends you can hang out with and be competitive with :p

A lot of PI people will be checking it out.

So from 1030-230am the whole entire upstairs is for 21+? Isn't that where all the live music is? I'm 18 and I'm disappointed that Disney doesn't allow me to go to places like jellyrolls and now this. I'm legally allowed to go clubbing and go to strip clubs but I can't go to an upstairs bar?
