Splitsville

Yep my experience with bowling in England and NYC has always been extremely expensive, making Splitsville look a bargain.

I guess that is the thing. Bowling has never been as popular in the south, so there are few places that I have found in Florida with that level of pricing. I'll be interested to see if it attracts a large enough tourist clientele to work out. I'm not sure it will catch on with the locals since bowling is not a big deal.

I don't know where you normally bowl, but the prices at Splitsville are much cheaper than I have ever found, and the place is in a whole different league to a local bowling place.

$15 per person for 1.5 hours including shoe hire seems really good to me. How much do you normally pay?
I went there Friday night and thought it was a great place to hang out - $20 per person may be high compared to some places but being from the UK I have to compare it to what I pay back home where prices start at £7 per person for the 1st game and £5 for subsequent games. As there were only 2 of us we got through 5 games in our 90 minutes so for me it was cheaper than back home. If there had been 4 of us on the lane we would probably have got through 2 games but even then the prices would be comparable to back home except this is in DTD and you have the added bonus of the lanes and balls being new (Back home the lanes have dents in the alley's and the balls have more chips in them than I can count.

Food was expensive though but I didn't go there to eat. They provided a full food and drink service at your lane and a draft beer was $6.50 which is the same price I paid at Citiwalk the week before so overall I'd have to say the prices are about right for the location.

For those worried about kids being there ruining it - upstairs is restricted to over 21's after 10pm.

Thanks for the report. Was the place full or is it a case of people still not knowing it is now open?

They are banking on a LOT of non-bowlers coming here. Again, it's not a bowling alley, it's a bar that happens to have bowling. This is like saying "I don't know if Raglan Road will catch on with locals since so few of them are into Irish dance".

Except that there were at least two parties with young children upstairs when the clock was pushing 11:00 pm Friday night--and the door host at the escalator seemed to make no effort to check IDs. I'm wondering if they are having second thoughts about this policy.

When I was there the guy at the bottom of the escalator was checking ID's for those wanting to go up. But I can confirm there were still some "kids" upstairs well after 10:30pm. It's something they need to work on.

I was wondering about the bowling lanes. Does anyone know if they're shorter than standard bowling lanes? I'm not a regular bowler but the pins seemed much closer than normal and the lane width seemed a bit narrower too.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing too. The lanes look much shorter than other places I've bowled.

lol, did TDO Value Engineer the size of the lanes to save money? This is so funny if it is true. Nothin like giving people less and less at WDW. Nothing but the best for WDW guests. lol

It's pretty SOP for Splitsville to have non-regulation lanes

Splitsville is completely third party built and operated, nothing to do with Disney.

Splitsville is not going after the serious bowler, it is a recreational/entertainment complex, with a heavy slant on the fun side. Those of you looking for regulation/competition facilities will probably not be impressed.

Thanks for letting me know, I should have figured that it was not a Disney built attraction, WDW use to be a very unique and cutting edge place to visit. Now its just bring in somebody else to do TDOs work, make it less special and more like a place that is filled with things from my home town. nothing special here at all. lol

If this was inside a theme park, then I would agree with you. This is is DTD...it's already an area full of outside vendors. Why spend all that money on R&D when others companies already have it down pat?

As you have a Splitsville in your home town you should know all about it then.

Is there any more word on the 100 lane complex going into ESPN WWOS?

No things seem to have gone quiet on that front - that was/is for serious competition play.

It does seem to keep going quiet!

I thought it was for competitions, but then it would be open to the public when there weren't tournaments on? So, Splitsville would be a bar with a bowling theme (and not full lanes apparantly), and then ESPN would be a bowling complex with (presumably) full size lanes?

You sound mad at me? where is the love? I just forgot it was a chain, I forgot it was a chain until i heard it here a few weeks or months ago. then I forgot again. lol. Im not a bowler so dont care about it, have heard of spiltsville in the past, never gone. There is one close here on the east Coast, your right its not my official home town. but you are missing my point that I can do these things outside of WDW. I want wdw to be special place with spcial attractions. no more outside vendors, lol. please dont be mad at me, im not try to fight, just giving my point of veiw.
