Splitsville

its a large venue that is primarily a bar - it should do well with the convention crowd for that if nothing else

The most telling quote I've heard--"When you're at the bar, you wouldn't even know you were at a bowling alley." Hoping to check it out tonight, see it with a DJ and age restrictions.

"Legally" you can go into a night club/bar at 18 in the state of Florida. However, is is their sandbox and their rules. Most nightclubs/bars do not want to have to deal with wristbands, IDing patrons at the bar, or loosing their liquor licence because some 18 year old slips through the cracks especially when you are doing nothing but ordering soda. Clubs want to serve high profit alcohol as quickly as possible. Letting in 18-20 year old patrons gums up that process especially at high volume places.

In a nut shell, it is not financially worth it for them to let you in.

Additionally, many venues do not want the under 21 crowd because they can drive away the over 21 crowd--who spend more money. If a bar gets a reputation as a "kiddie hang-out" the twenty-somethings that spend the real money will stay away. Allowing under 21 can lead to all sorts of other problems. Those 18 and 19-year-olds may not drink on premises, but they often show up having had more than a few. This can lead to unruly patrons, fights, and general disorder. Not to say all those problems are eliminated by banning younger patrons, but it does slow things down.

I went there yesterday and found the prices to be too unreasonable. There were 3 of us and we just ended up walking around. It would have been $60 for 3 of us to bowl for an hour and a half!

The food here is nothing amazing either. The food is actually cheaper inside the parks compared to what's at Splitsville. It's $7 for plain French Fries and a pulled pork sandwich is $18! If they keep the current prices they will price themselves out of business.

I don't know where you normally bowl, but the prices at Splitsville are much cheaper than I have ever found, and the place is in a whole different league to a local bowling place.

$15 per person for 1.5 hours including shoe hire seems really good to me. How much do you normally pay?

So 25 dollars for a pork sandwich and side of fries? I am calling BS.

OK everyone, all together now, "JT04 was right AGAIN!" :D

And I think Splitsville provides the perfect template for the future of DTD.

Prediction of the Week: Those pool tables will be so popular more will be added elsewhere at DTD. Not sure where yet.

Sorry, I meant "Billiard Tables".

We usually spend $35 for bowling including food and drinks and that's 3 of us. Most places I've been to offer discounted bowling later at night and also offer some sort of unlimited play for around the non-evening price of Splitsville Orlando. The place I've been to in Tampa lets 6 people play for $45 for 2 hours. So that's $90 or $120 in Splitsville bowling.

It just disappoints me because I was looking forward to this place being a cool hangout spot for locals on the weekends. It's become another place that's going to be for the tourists. It's funny how Universal can get locals to CityWalk, but DownTown Disney seems like a giant mall of merchandise so they never go. I was hoping this would change that but unfortunately it's not going to be enough from what I've heard in my circle. Maybe that will change if they offer an Annual Passholder Discount.

Earlier this week I spent $15 for a burger and fries at Raglan (admittedly the best burger on WDW property, arguably in Orlando)--right in line with Splitsville. Prices seem similar to Rain Forest and T-Rex, as well. About what you should expect to spend at DTD--and only a couple bucks more than what Fridays/Chillis/Roadhouse/Applebees are getting over on 192.

That's why I make the family live off of condiment and sugar packets whilst traipsing around the world.

Per person? Most of the places around where I am are $15-20 per hour per lane plus shoes for Cosmic bowling(less for regular). I usually go with five or six people. that per person cost is a bit high. $60 for 3 people for an hour and a half is way too pricey unless it include a beer and bar service right at the lane(does it?).

For comparison.. here's pricing from a local bar/bowl mixup

PRICES:

Per Game Bowling (per person): walk-ins only; reservations not available

Sunday 6pm – Friday 6pm: $6 (Seniors 60+ $4)
Saturday, Sunday and Federal Holidays until 6pm: $7
Friday & Saturday, 6pm-close: $8

Hourly Bowling (per lane per hour): reservations required

Sunday 6pm – Friday 6pm: $35
Saturday, Sunday and Federal Holidays until 6pm: $42
Friday & Saturday, 6pm-close: $48

That doesn't include shoes.. which is $5/person

NYC? Bowlmor is $7 for shoes.. $13/game. Like I've been saying in these threads for months now.. this isn't Bowl America.

I'm actually surprised their pricing isn't higher. For WDW entertainment it's on the cheaper side.

Very resonable. Gonna be tough to get a reservation at those hourly rates.

I can't imagine paying $13 dollars for one game. That is why I don't consider moving to NYC.

Yep my experience with bowling in England and NYC has always been extremely expensive, making Splitsville look a bargain.

Any newer bowling places that are opening up now are all about encompassing food/drinks with the bowling b/c the only way they will make money is with the food and drinks. However, they will charge through the nose on Friday and Saturday nights per game since they know people are going to show up to bowl those nights.

If I go bowling at any newer places, it's usually on a weekday night where they'll have a "bowl all you want" for a flat rate. I have my own shoes which have already paid for themselves.

I don't bowl but from the looks of all the cocktail servers I saw walking around--yes it does.

It's been said before, but this isn't a "bowling" alley in any traditional sense. Much more like a bar with a bowling theme that, oh by the way, happens to offer bowling. I counted three full bars, one of which is huge, and they are placed to be the center of attention. But the alleys themselves are spread out, in groups of two or four, generally tucked away in corners (especially upstairs). Not a typical alley where they are lined up together and the focus of attention.

Upstairs feels like a collection of different rooms without walls. The two bar areas, a dining room with a "diner" feel, a pool room, the DJ and the small-ish "dance floor" (I don't really see that catching on, to be honest). Last night they were being lenient with the 21+ only policy--I saw kids up there past 10:30. In non-Orlando Dave & Busters, for instance, they will stop seating parties with children well before the cutoff time.

Fairly crowded last night--felt like more of a local crowd, checking out the new thing. As was discussed above, food and booze priced in line with DTD, which makes it somewhat pricey compared to the rest of town. That said, it has a fun feel, with a lot of the energy PI used to have. It will live and die by the locals, I think, not sure if they will embrace this or not.

Too bad they can't spatially relocate to the midwest in the winter. I know that here in the Indy area it would be packed every night until the end of March.
