I did hear that there's a strong push from the entirety of WDI to get it open significantly ahead of schedule. For reasons that are actually quite unrelated to Tiana itself. Some of the most aggressive ones wanting it done 5-6 months earlier than the official "late 2024" date (which I assume is November-December). That would place it in the early to mid summer range. Granted I have always questioned the logic of not opening such a wet ride in the hottest part of the year. Though given their usual sluggish pace, that seems like a very aggressive timeline. And i'd be further concerned that they've cut budgets and quality corners to meet it.

However, it also seems like a lot of the sluggishness is imposed on them by higher ups looking to stretch budgets out over as many quarters as possible to make the books look better. Rather than WDI being unable to move fast. Still, I don't know if WDI got their way. I guess we'll see how fast they're going when we get closer to summer next year. The exterior seems to be progressing rather quickly so far. No way of knowing what the interior looks like, but a lot of the new character figures were already complete and ready to be programmed/installed quite a while ago.
I wonder how much of that was to align with the release of the D+ series that appears to factor in to some of the head-scratching design choices.

The D+ series was apparently originally supposed to release in 2022. That deadline was scrapped though, and I don't actually know what the current target is anymore. The ride's story is supposed to take place before the show and some of its new characters are going to appear in the show, but neither will rely on the other to explain things. So whichever comes first doesn't matter.

The push to get the ride finished well ahead of schedule isn't related to the Princess and the Frog IP at all. There are multiple other major unrelated WDW park projects WDI has been working on that they're trying to get corporate to greenlight and budget. Including for Magic Kingdom. Getting Tiana done earlier is presumably to force corporate to have to make those decisions quicker. Apparently there are concerns about Epic Universe.

That sounds like bad news to me. It may mean they are just putting minimal effort maximum hype. At this point I expect to see their introduction of paper and stick animatronics

I disagree with the “maximum hype” part.

Seems that Disney is cooling off whatever hype after the lackluster response to their YT Videos and the goofy cm mugging in front of the water tower.

Disney fans: This is taking longer than necessary, Disney is incompetent!!

Also Disney fans: This is finishing early. Disney must be taking horrible shortcuts!!!

I hope your source is right. All of that sounds like potential good news besides the corpos dragging their feet as usual.

It’s not unreasonable to lament TDO idly shuffling their feet on a simple clone job on an already successful roller coaster.

If they can get Tiana done sooner without compromising quality, then that's a good thing. The problem would be if they rush it out in an incomplete and cut back state from what was planned. I don't have any idea if that's an actual danger or not, just saying that I hope it's not the case. I also don't actually know if they're even going to get approval to expedite construction, I just heard there's a push to do so from WDI. It all depends on what corporate allows though.

I am still bummed about the lack of the Odie tree at the top, because this just looks...underwhelming at best, heinous at worst. The "structure" reasoning doesn't even make sense because there was a tree up there for decades, and they could have just used forced perspective.

The Mama Odie tree would have made Tiana's Bayou Adventure more iconic. The water tower is fine, but doesn't look nearly as impressive.

Don't diss paper and stick, the plywood cutouts in Mr. Toad rock.

well…there are always happy accidents….

As if they would ever publicly admit Tiana's was a failure.

The tree with the boat would have really made Tiana's look beautiful.
I'm certainly no structural engineer, but I'd imagine the tree plus boat would have weighed quite a bit more than the stump alone.
Then, that'd be coupled with greatly increased wind forces on it.

The mountain and boat seen in Typhoon Lagoon likely contains a lot more steel than the one in Splash, since it was designed from the beginning to support that boat. There also aren't any slides or guest areas directly under it and inside of the mountain like there are in Splash. Just mechanical and pump equipment. I think only cast and maintenance go near or inside/under the boat.

That said, it sounds like this was more of a money thing more than an impossibility. And perhaps a little re-engineering work could have even alleviated a significant amount of those money problems without compromising as much on the visual impact.

The tree for instance doesn't look like it would have been that big of a problem. Just a few extra branches and some foliage that I doubt would add all that much steel and weight. The boat may have been more of a problem, but one idea I had was to remove it from atop the tree branches and relocate it further down to serve as the entrance to the cavern. This would even arguably make a bit more sense within the context of the ride's scenes since the peak of the lift interior is supposed to be the inside of Mama Odie's house.

I'm not an artist, but I made a very rough edited mockup for what i'm referring to.

Not sure if you can answer this but if the lift is Mama Odie’s house, why do we drop? I assume it’s still supposed to be Odie’s house even with no boat.

I hate that it looks like a mound of poo, it's really disappointing they could not add the boat. When I think of Splash, I always thought of the iconic Chikapin Hill, but when I think of Tiana, it just will be a mound of dirt I guess. I guess it's a prime example of what Imagineers could do, but ultimately weren't able to. Makes me wonder if OLC were to build this, if the boat would be a possibility as I would imagine they would invest into the boat.

In fairness to this mound no longer having the visual impact of a "mountain," it will at least be quite heavily green.
So it's not going to look like a lump of dirt.
That, and there are a number of large trees being completed in front of it.
