Looks impressive, but how can they make this about salt mines?View attachment 666161

Before having the Heart returned - Tefiti's rage caused so much heat it literally was boiling the oceans. As Moana demonstrated the ability when a strong young woman can take herself on a grand adventure, restoring balance even to Mother Nature herself, knows no limits. Today, she sets said collecting the dried ocean salt from cave walls, selling it around the world to inspire us on How Far We'll Go. (Moana artisanal ocean salt available for purchase in retail locations throughout Walt Disney World.)

You know what would have been a great story for this ride?

“Set in New Orleans during the 1920s, the ride tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by an evil witch doctor, Tiana becomes a frog herself and must find a way to turn back into a human before it is too late.”

I’ll bet they could even use new, great songs like “Down in New Orleans”, “Almost There” and “Friends on the Other Side”.

Honestly I'd probably have put "gunna take you there" in the ride

I’m sure the song inspired by the salt mines that support the empowering food co-op will surpass the charm and timelessness of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah!

And if it doesn’t, fear not! Plenty on here will act as if it does!
Yeah, everyone who isn’t spewing thinly-veiled social commentary hot takes about the backstory blurb signage on the model of a ride overlay is completely blinded by pixie dust!

From the parks blog-

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open at the Disneyland Resort (and Walt Disney World Resort) in late 2024. The new attraction’s story will pick up right where “The Princess and the Frog” left off. At the end of the film, Princess Tiana realizes her lifelong dream when she opens her restaurant, Tiana’s Palace. We pick up the story during Carnival season, when Tiana is hosting a party for the people of New Orleans. She discovers her celebration is missing a key ingredient and needs our help to find it. On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ll join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou, where they meet all sorts of unexpected new friends who have a special role to play at the party.

So it looks like this new attraction is definitely falling prey to the 'every rider is a recruit' trend- a cheap way to manufacture 'immersion' that doesn't really work on anyone.

And, the best storyline WDI could come up with for a retheme of one of the most beloved attractions of all time is we're helping Tiana find a missing recipe ingredient. So WDI is creatively bankrupt.

The storyline reads like something that would appeal exclusively to six year olds- and this retheme is supposed to cater to all ages- especially since many six year olds are afraid of the drop. What a joke.

Hi..New Orleans native here.
The period of time between January 6th til Ash Wednesday is called Carnival. (Or Carnival season..)
Mardi Gras itself is the finale of Carnival.
Or in religious terms, the season of Epiphany beginning with January 6 (i.e. the Magi finding Jesus). Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", the last day to feast before starting the 40 day fast of Lent which begins Ash Wednesday. I can see how the Epiphany season would be a season of celebration ("Carnival") before starting the fast of Lent.

I do not understand how she went from having a dream of owning a beautiful restaurant to then having a dream to own a food processing plant that is employee owned...This is really the most ridiculous turn in the story...
She found out that she could make way more money being the supplier of local grocery stores and restaurants then just her own.

She learned the benefits of branding and scalable production at a Disney Institute course. I personally can't wait for the Salt Mine College Program!

They completely replaced the most important aspect of Tiana’s character from the film (wanting to own a restaurant), for no discernible reason.

The equivalent would be if in FEA, Disney created a backstory that after the events of Frozen, Elsa discovered she could not only control ice and snow, but also sand, and then had the ride be a visit to a beach she created, where we see her using magic to build sand castles while singing Let It Go.

If you’re going to use a character from an existing movie, why change the thing about her that people already recognize?

To judge from what’s been revealed of it, I’m not a fan of the (back)story either, but I don’t understand the claim that Tiana’s wanting to get into food production is in any way inconsistent with her wanting to own a restaurant. The two seem totally compatible to me.
