This whole ordeal is wildly entertaining. I might need another bucket of popcorn.

- Makes fans Happy / Makes people who don't go to WDW on Twitter mad
- Sells merchandise
- Carmen Smith and the gang are mad
- The company saves money by not re-theming
- They fail to complete all the upkeep needed

I love people summarizing their personal beliefs as a unified beliefs.

I know so many fans (who regularly visit WDW ;)) counting down the days until there's more information about this retheme. I know people who actively work at Disney who are refusing to ride Splash Mountain until it gets it's retheme. Just because there is a vocal majority on this site against the retheme doesn't mean that it's reflected by the majority of the population that visits the World. That vocal majority only exists because most members actively excited for this retheme have abandoned this thread until there's more news to actually discuss.

Also, there's no possible way to know that the new splash will be screen based. The current running theory is that most if not all of the america sings animatronics will be re-skinned and repurposed. I understanding complaining if that's not what the reality when Tiana Mountain opens, but I don't understand getting worked up about something that may or may not bee true.

I listed "fans" as being fans of the current Splash Mountain, not just Disney fans in general. I guess I should have simplified that.

You were too busy summarizing your anecdotal evidence as unified beliefs

I can assure you most fans don’t care enough. Heck I’d even say that most fans are excited. Like yeah, Splash is a classic. It sucks losing it. But at the same time, the animatronics on the thing never work and the ride is always in shambles. It’s honestly “Time to be movin’ along”

So you're saying most Splash fans are excited it's going away or most Disney fans are excited to get a new ride?

A fan is an enthusiastic devotee, kind of hard to be enthusiastic about Splash Mountain and wish for it to disappear at the same time.

Taking the ride down in California but not in Florida is unlikely. The optics wouldn’t be very good

so lets do the same thing they did w GMR to "justify" that closing... let a company let a ride rot so we are happy w some cheap overlay while they continue to charge and up charge for everything... got it

So is your stance that the majority of the people who visit and work for disney want this change to happen and feel the ride is racist? and if so have those people ever ridden splash before? because i know countless people who work there as well and none are happy nor support this decision made by disney and based on wait times and its continued popularity seems like most guests still enjoy the ride and were not fooled by the "outrage" claiming the ride is racist.....

My stance is that it's a divisive issue, and there are very passionate people on both sides of it. I would never say that there's a majority leaning either way, seeing as how it's a metric near impossible to gather at this point. The user I quoted spoke as if everyone was in complete agreement that the retheme will be universally hated and "less than" the original Splash Mountain. All I said was that there are plenty of people actively looking forward to the retheme, and that's it's ridiculous to assume that the attraction will be worse when no visual changes have presented themselves yet.

As for my personal opinion? I fall into the "this is a welcomed update" camp. I worked at Pecos Bill's for 6 months, watching people enjoy this ride for up to 14 hours a day. I know it's a beloved ride, and for the longest time it was my favorite ride in all of Disney World as well. I'll never forget the first time I rode it, with my dad by my side. He was the only person willing to ride it with me when I was a kid, and hearing all of the screams coming from that drop will always bring me back to that day. But that doesn't change the fact that numerous co-cast mates of color actively spoke out about how they didn't love the racially driven stereotypes present in the ride, or in The Song of the South. There are more than 341 pages of this discussion detailing why people feel this way, so forgive me for not diving further into why people feel this way. This isn't a new thought process brought on by anything that's happened in the past 5 years, people have been feeling this way for a lot longer. I fully support Disney finally addressing this, and moving the conversation forward on both coasts.

I'll be visiting the World in October, and I'm overjoyed that I'll be able to take one last trip down to the briar patch. I can assure you I'll cry at least three times on it. But I also promise that I'll end it smiling, hopeful for what's to come. :)

Well said. I think the point im trying to make is for 3 decades this ride was a non issue and never even talked about being rethemed for said reasons until the past couple years when Disney had a kneejerk reaction to some online threats from imho majority of people who never ridden or watched videos of the ride to make the claims or felt like following along w the social media crowd with the barrage of claims that Splash has to go….

341 pages of
“I’m excited!”
“I hate this!”
“The rides not racist!”
“It kind of is!”
“I don’t think it’s happening!”
“It is, bonehead!”
And it’ll continue until it finally opens, and society will finally know peace.

From the stand-by wait times (80 minutes most of today, for example), I'd have to say there's not many people refusing to ride until the re-theme is complete. One thing I'd find interesting... How many people in that 80 minute line even know of the upcoming re-theme? Not sure how we'd find out. As long as the overlay is done well, I don't think most would care; they'd keep on riding it.

It will definitely be very interesting to see how this all will turn out.

I think most of the naysayers here at the WDWmagic forums would be more receptive to a Splash retheme if it wasn’t set to Princess and the Frog.

We don’t like the idea of Disney Princesses (tm) bleeding over into Frontierland, or the fact that 20th Century New Orleans doesn’t match the overall country/western aesthetic.

PatF would work for Disney California, given the proximity to the other New Orleans Square attractions Pirates and the Haunted Mansion. It would mean Critter Country would officially be dead, but that has been slowly dying since Country Bear Jamboree was removed for Winnie the Pooh. All they need to do is just turn it into New Orleans Land.

There are two viable options that should have been considered first:

A. American Legends - they could go into US tall tales and mythology, Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Sluefoot Sue, Johnny Appleseed, and John Henry.
And the best part is the climax could be Sleepy Hollow, with an animatronic Headless Horseman….which is something that Walt Disney was hoping for in his earliest plans for the Haunted Mansion.

or

B. Western River Expedition. An American West take on ‘Pirates’ that was originally planned for WDW but cancelled. Parts of WRE live on today, from the animatronic bison at Living With the Land to Big Thunder Mountain being a spiritual successor.
