It will bring in guests. They'll sell a ton of PATF merch. While Splash has long lines in the morning and throughout the day, the short lines at night will be a thing of the past. People like new stuff.
I agree on the merchandise but i dk how much more vs what Splash brings in... as far as night goes granted summer and warmer months weather is a non factor but at night lines ive seen get shorter bc of weather but i understand initially it will not be the case. but again MK isnt the one that needs capacity

For those in the know, is there any space they could use to the right of the mountain to build a new restaurant if they wanted to? Like where the extended queue, shop & bathrooms are? I know to the left is parade staging and those buildings so I can’t see them attempting to reconfigure that
I'm by no means an expert, but it doesn't seem like there is any area to the right (at least not without SIGNIFICANT reconfiguring of the area.

The area circled in yellow is (I believe) the storage/maintenance shed for the BTMR trains and there is track (also highlighted in yellow) that connects from this shed to the ride which wouldn't be simple to cross. Circled in red is a restroom which wouldn't be simple/easy/inexpensive to move. And the path in green is a maintenance road that allows access to Splash Mountain (i.e. needs to stay).

Limits options for sure...

Hahahahaha!!! Oh yeah, the PATF merch will be flying off the shelves! Just like in 2009 when this blockbuster came out! The PATF toys were the must have items that Christmas!

And OMG how they can't keep up with the PATF merch demand in every resort around the world!

It's fun to make believe!
A brand new attraction at Magic Kingdom? Yeah, the merch will be flying off the shelves. It could be an attraction based on the 💩 poop emoji and merch would fly off the shelves.

Not to mention the reasoning is flawed. Just because the story for the attraction culminates in New Orleans doesn’t mean the attraction has to reside in New Orleans Square. Critter Country/ Splash Mountain for all we know is the countryside outside of New Orleans and a launching point for where the story begins.
Well, the only problem with that is that the country outside of New Orleans has swamps, not mountains. ;)

Yeah, and Buzz Lightyear dolls didn’t sell good when Toy Story 4 came out. They flooded clearance aisles. Toy Story stuff sells like hot cakes on the parks. So doesn’t anything with the princesses. I can promise you people will want merch for it. Especially if they make stuff for the adult crowd like collectibles. Tiana is one of the most popular Disney Pop Funko figures.

You know what would work better (it’s at least adjacent geographically) it’s fantastical land is late 19th century/turn of the century as opposed to firmly being 1920s, and has a bangin soundtrack: Coco.

Take some of the steampunk portions of the land of the dead and remove electricity from the normal world (without addressing it at all so most people won’t notice) have it be a sequel. On the first lift have Dante and cat Pepita animatronics grasping a letter (cat) and skull guitar (Dante.) As we circle the drop, a ring of cacti and Marigold flowers replace the briar patch. At the top of the second lift have an minimal animatronic Miguel read the letter inviting him to a reunion concert tonight of Ernesto and Hector (who writes saying he forgave Ernesto) and to attend all he needs to do is strum the guitar. As we go around the outside the lullaby instrumental version of Remember Me starts to play, rounding the turn we see another minimal movement animatronic Miguel give out his yell and strum the guitar as we drop.

The Ernesto version of Remember Me starts playing as we round the bend into the show building and using screen effects like Alice in DL, marigold flowers on either end of the chute along with orange floods in the water cross the marigold bridge into the land of the dead in the area where the geese are fishing. As we turn another bend we bypass a street full of skeletons dancing and signing Remember Me with Ernestro who is being piped in by speakers from the concert. As we round the corner (where Brer Bear was hanging in the rabbit trap) we enter the stadium and we get our first two fully articulated animatronics of Miguel and Hector signing and dancing to Un Poco Loco. Of note both are wearing Marigold flower boutonnières on their chest. We pass into the backstage area as we see the family enjoying the show back stage and Emelda getting ready to go on next. Strangely every family member has a Merigold flower as well. The song ends to applause as we see Ernesto (who does not have a merigold flower) standing by the drop say come down here Miguel, I need to show you something. After the down up drop we find Ernesto explaining to Miguel that he did all of this to lure Miguel back so that he could kill the boy who ruined his death. Ernesto AA being where Brer Bear was, Miguel running away where Brer Fox is and in between a couple of bodyguard henchman. We drop, with Emelda signing La Liona above we enter an underground cave and bodyguard henchman pop up and down reach to our boat trying to catch Miguel. Of course right before the final lift Ernesto catches Miguel and tells him he’s going to throw Miguel off a cliff so no one will ever find him. However, as every log starts ascending the lift in the area where the vultures are now two Giant Cat Eyes will open, squint and then close as we hit the lift. As we get to the top using the shadow projection we see Hector or Emelda (it switches) confront Ernesto for his betrayal tell Miguel to grab his flower and then say Pepita! and whistle. Right before the drop we have a fairly static figure of Ernesto holding Miguel by the shirt but in time with the audio Ernesto head will turn around to reveal a scared look. Instead of “Briar Patch” we here Miguel I give you my blessing right before the drop. Not noticed from any angle other then this spot observant guests will notice Ernesto’s scattered bones amongst the cacti as we drop. At the old Zip-a-dee Landing, it’s now black lit and we are in the Rivera courtyard and we have the entire clan (living and dead) recreating Proud Corizon. Besides Hector and Miguel being again advanced electronics other eye draws will be the Skeletons all glowing orange like the movie, and Emelda silently stroking a full size alebreije Pepita (also glowing) and Dante fluttering above and of course fireworks exploding in the sky. Where Brer Rabbits house now sits will have the Rivera ofrenda instead.

Now some caveats, yes the steampunk stuff in the land of the dead and electricity are anachronistic, i have no idea what to do about retheming the top of the mountain and I would prefer Splash staying. However if forced to retheme to a recent IP that’s what I would choose as Mexico is at least close enough to the American Frontier. Give Tiana a show in the old Mermaid theatre instead.

Hold on a second, now I'm confused.....what's the status of this project? There were like, 5 different rumors pertaining to the status ranging from "It's still on" to "It's dead at all three parks", but then they announced it's still on, more info at that festival thing in New Orleans and a 2024 opening? Is that correct?

From the insiders who have a good tracker record on this board, it's still on. Even a hint that maybe WDW will go first. The current blurb from Disney about the Essence Festival seems to be clearly indicating that it's on in DL and will become part of New Orleans Square.

From the trusted insiders, we did indeed hear different things, because Disney being Disney (and a world wide pandemic), things kept changing (mostly timelines), but not once did they say it wasn't happening at all.

All other rumors were from people who've never had inside information previously vetted on these forums. And it shows.

No one has officially announced anything. We are getting more information in July, but nothing is being confirmed. Basically, we really have no idea, although "insiders" on Twitter (take that for what you will) say it's coming "sooner rather than later," but I am sure that is to bolster their own like and retweet generations, on top of the fact that we still have no official confirmation from Disney. A couple folks on here rightfully pointed out that Disney owns ABC and that the "offhand" comment (which is also being highlighted on their official YouTube) felt incredibly staged.

Either way, this is A LOT of hysteria over a whole lot of nothing.

It's also incredibly complicated. Disney Parks isn't just one organization. There are a ton of tiny organizations within, fighting for line items on the budget, with different responsibilities. Disney also shares information across teams on a completely as needed basis only; so much so that incomplete information will often lead to inaccurate conclusions.

All of that being said, if I could clear up some confusion: I don't know about the timing or differences in approach compared to Disneyland, but as far as WDW goes, I do know for a fact that animatronics and sets are actively being developed at Central Shops and elsewhere. I would hope that would be enough of an indicator that this is still happening. Is it possible that these things are partially scrapped or used in a different park or in a different attraction? Sure. But this notion that they have no intention of doing this or timeline on it is false.

Unless I see concrete proof of something, I assume everyone is lying (and this goes for all things). When an official announcement is made about the timeline, that's when I will start to show interest. People just saying that they "know things" without anything to back it up is tiresome and just sounds like 3 owls in a trenchcoat.

We'll know more this month and at D23. If nothing substantial comes out over the next few weeks, silence on it at D23 should be an indication that they are slow playing it.

And another word of caution when dealing with leaks or people in the know, including myself: often times people will work on projects until those projects simply no longer exist. The people working on the nitty gritty often don't even know the specific fates of their own projects until someone decides to tell them.

We know it's happening still. Timeline is a question mark.

Most of the fretting hasn't been about the timeline, but multiple insistence that *surely* it would be cancelled for reasons X, Y, and Z.
