They have nothing new or exciting to promote and that comes across in the increasingly shallow, desperate and empty publicity campaigns.
Fair, but you don't think the Disney Side campaign is any good? I think it does a great job, considering the fact that there isn't anything new to promote. The marketing people are pulling their weight, just not the people who approve new attractions to be built.

Personally, I laughed pretty hard at the two Disney Side commercials I've seen (Dad as Darth Vader and Mom as Ariel).

I don't want to "show my Disney side." I want Disney to show me something.

Lady and the Tramp is one of Disney's top 10 selling animated home video titles. It has never been considered "dark age" material.
I didnt mean in box office or rentals.
I mean as in style and animation type.
Aristocats had an extreme sketchy style for example.

I don't want to show Disney my Disney side... I want Disney to show me THEIR Disney side...

You know, makes me wonder.. "How much disney is good or bad"?

Because if we got to compare "some classics".. (example, some dark ages disney stuff, like the lady and the tramp...or the aristocrats? they would rate low now compared to Tangled. )
Depending on your perspective, the decline of Disney animation began...
1)After "Lady and the Tramp" as Walt's focus was divided between feature animation, television, live action, and Disneyland
2)When Disney closed its shorts department in the late 50s/early 60s
3)"Sleeping Beauty", a beautiful failure in some eyes
or 4)After "101 Dalmatians"

me: Walt's reduced focus on the division, the lack of a proper talent development program, and increasingly conservative creative choices ("Pete's Dragon" and "The Black Cauldron" were greenlighted to be the Mary Poppins and Snow White pictures) that really took hold after "101 Dalmatians" led Disney animation on a long gradual decline through the 70's and early 80's.

Aristocats' sketchy style is the result of Xerography where the animator's pencil drawings are printed directly onto the cell to save $$$. Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians too used Xerography.

Funny, I just think that they are humorous promotional pieces. Why must everyone be so negative about everything that Disney does. Even I, a known critic, am not disgusted by every attempt. Some of them are pretty good and interesting. Not everything has to bring someone to tears, does it?

They are CREEPY in a 'Village of the Damned' the original B&W one and original Stepford Wives fashion.

Are you sure you guys aren't watching the new movies with the big nostalgia glasses?

Most people when grows up(specially in this modern world where everything gets replaced pronto..) as made the "back in my day these things were cooler and more fun".

A fine example are... the kids who grew up on pokemon..

they said the first designs were cute and awesome.. and the new ones are damn ugly.. but they're older now.. the nostalgia goggles affected them way too much.. they dont notice they GREW UP and advanced to a state they will not like the "new" thing for "young" people.

let's not convert into that angry grandpah who waves his cane to everything.. demanding them leave his lawn!

Also the difference in mediums might affect the opinion.. 3d will never fully replace traditional animation in the artistic therm.

just my 2 cents. (ps, my body is sorta ready for the complains at my opinion lol)

No complaints I just see 2D hand drawn and 3D CG as two separate art forms neither is 'better' just different. You could hand draw 3D but it would be an incredibly difficult and time consuming task.

Seeing that video of Tony Baxter was a real treat. Was it just my imagination or does he resemble Walt Disney in gestures and, to some extent, physical appearance. Anyway, congrats to Tony and if I could ask a favor of the current management team at TWDC, if you have no other priority project in line for him...please send him to EPCOT and see if he can make it a great place once more. Thanks!

Someone quoted Tony at the ceremony that day as saying that he is being kept 'very busy by them (Disney) in retirement'.
Interrupt that as you will, but it is encouraging.

There had been talk about him 'being allowed' to advise on the Imagination re-do some months ago.
I sure hope that he is indeed having some imput...no matter how small. It would mean a lot to him.

He has a LOT to offer if people just listen, and his lightest touch can only be a good thing for a proposed project like that one.

It's also been discussed how he has agreed to play nice in exchange for his Legend Award and Main Street Window.

speaking of the rules..
Is possible to add an image signature but containing those "signature" type images?
Ie an image rotating with the logo of something like "disney fan".

these kind of images are used in hardware sites a lo for example.. or sport.. (they are around 400width, 50 height.. and usually the logo of the thing you're fan off)

No we have no images at all in signatures. I believe it is best to keep the forum about the content. Do people really want to see the same signature image thousands of times?

The best thing TWDC might be doing right now is leaving the staff of General Hospital alone

I haven't seen that quality of daytime drama since the halcyon days of the 80s and 90s.

Woop woop, thanks for the GH shoutout! Yes, the resurgence of GH has been due to the head writer and EP of One Life to Live moving over to GH once OLTL was cancelled. The show is the best it has been since the 1990's and I'm loving it.

OK crawling back in to my hole now... ;)
