aww man, some of my posts were removed?

Aw man! It appears I missed all the fun from earlier today. I thought I would share a couple articles with y'all seeing that they are very relevant to The Walt Disney Studios' ticking time bomb also known as the tent pole only strategy. Portions have been underlined for emphasis by mois.

A really good opinion..
funnily, most of the points are the fine example of what dreamworks have been doing way too much.
always trying their best to hire too many superA star as voice actors.
And it can give huge money hits (like RISE OF THE GUARDIANS)

My favorite of the executives leaving Disney is this bit:

A former U.S. Navy flight officer with an MBA from Harvard, Britton also was among 10 professionals selected earlier this year by President Barack Obama to serve on a commission charged with improving the voter experience on Election Day and easing long lines at polling stations.

So will we one day have FP or FP+ for voting? I say good riddance to these executives. One has to assume they've been there all along for the last decade's park performance and can we really believe they were only now fed up with it or have they been identified as part of the problem and some house cleaning is being done?

Interactive voter queues, an election pre-show and then a chance to buy refreshments and souvenirs on the way out.

Having recently concluded my Fall Faux Top One Percent Spirited Holiday, I suppose I should wade back into these MAGICal waters with some brief thoughts (new thread to come soon) ...especially with Sotto retiring from the fan community (at least until the book comes out!) who else will have threads that never end?

So, where has the Spirit been? All over ...from the wilds of SoFla (saw a fox Sunday in daylight in urban Miami, so the zombie apocalypse is clearly on its way) to the open seas on the Disney MAGIC along with good friend Karl Holz and some west coast Disney Channel execs (one who may even like the Spirit!), not to mention the 'real' radio media (no Mrs. Ricky sightings as the bloggerwhores only got the free two nights to nowhere deal) doing their junket deal. LOVED the ship (as usual) and the high caliber (i.e. Non WDW-like) product.

Also, spent some time at both WDW and UNI ....and BGT too.

WDW is like the meat at a Food Lion in the south, well past its freshness date, but that didn't stop the crowds who packed EPCOT like the food and booze were free.

I am sorta over the whole be a (blank) at a theme park deal. Drunks and boorish behavior at EPCOT as well as Halloween Horror Nights at UNI sure feel like they are at an all-time high.

When I sit back and think about what theme parks i enjoyed most on this visit, I can easily say BGT and Aquatica.

But those thoughts are for another time ...oh, I also saw the NYT deemed Disney's gambling business worthy of a story that went international quickly. Sad that Disney bullied the paper to kill the story, sadder yet that they were able to force changes after it was published online. Saddest that every media outlet in Orlando (perhaps Florida as well) simply pretended the story didn't exist. But I am sure Bob and the BoD just loved reading that. That's the problem with being a hypocrite, eventually you do get exposed and as dumb as people are today, they can recognize that type of BS quite easily.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

Anyone see the slantinel article about master pumpkin carving today(you know, like Disneyland does?) & how MAGICal foam MK pumpkins are?

Only thing missing was a walk on by Lou

I did find it amusing that the same week the New York Times was writing, albeit too softly, about Disney's thriving little gambling enterprises that the Orlando Sentinel was writing Disney PR pieces on the Grand Flo DVC and the Jingle Cruise. They certainly know who their overlords ...I mean, they certainly know what news really is.

Yeah, it kinda does.

And you forgot to tell folks the part where the new American Adventure Patriotic Potties are better than the Tangled Toilets.

I am a little upset that Mrs. Lee chose to ride with you. BTW, I don't think we ever acknowledged that the Ariel figure was dead in the main show scene. Typical WDW show quality, but at least they have prevented me from using my 1998 WL mug.

the Tangled toilets are as overrated with fanbois as the film that inspired it was. But, yeah, I did enjoy my time in the AA toilets after drinking all that 'free' Coke Freestyle in the lounge.

I am all for seasonal offerings, even if they 'ruin' once in a lifers visits (after all, if they don't come back, then just maybe Disney has to keep standards higher for the rest of us that demand it) and I thought the Town Square decor and all the fall bunting and Halloween decor to be a great plus back 8-9 years ago when they first put it in the MK.

But now it looks old and stale much like the ancient Christmas decorations.

Speaking of which, it was fun seeing the DAK tree in sections near the Central Shops awaiting installation at the park.

Seeing Christmas stuff all over (like the local Macy's) when my Halloween decorations are still out makes me ill.

You don't see many Disney Lifestylers hanging out at the Royal Pacific.

The best thing TWDC might be doing right now is leaving the staff of General Hospital alone

I haven't seen that quality of daytime drama since the halcyon days of the 80s and 90s.

Oh, but S.H.I.E.L.D. Still is crappy fanboi camp.

I really need to see Cabin in the Woods now.

Loved seeing those huge lines at MK and EPCOT (city hall and Guest relations) knowing that 90% of the people were there to whine because the GAC is gone.

Thursday's earnings call should be fun. Wonder what questions the analysts might have ...might I drop a note to one or two? As former Alaskan one-liner Sarah Palin would say 'you betcha!'

Just my opinion, but people who stay at WDW resorts for any perceived convenience are not as smart as they may believe.

Folks who think fall begins in Central Florida in October really need to wait until November to visit.

How come DCL, run from Celebration Place and TDO, keeps getting better as a product while WDW keeps ...well, not?

Well, if I keep chattering here I might never get my Spirit Takes the Fifth thread up and running. Perhaps, I am just looking to hit one million on this thread so Dr. Blondie, Bland Tommy, Crazy Gary and Scary Steven will just love me like they do all the local lifestylers and the mommy bloggers, who every day contribute to killing Walt's Legacy just a bit more.

Finally, to the fanboi who brought me presents, especially the Orange Bird, thanks again. You didn't have to, but it means something that you did.

To the friend who brought me along for the first official cruise of the 're-imagined' MAGIC, you are one fine man, SS (or BB if you prefer).

Glad you enjoyed cruising with Karl. I just took my first Disney cruise and loved it, despite the lack of celebrity encounters.

(I booked my cruise partly at the suggestion of an extremely fanboyish Disney friend -- one who generally has pretty good taste, despite supposedly having taken a cruise with his attorney once!)

I was surprised to read a number of negative reviews of the refurbished Disney Magic on another site, especially since said site is largely known for its rose-colored views of all things Disney. Other than an isolated water leak in a public restroom, I didn't encounter any problems during my Magic cruise at all. My stateroom was impeccable; everything was fresh and new, and the bed was frankly one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a public accommodation.

The service was top-notch across the board, with my servers in the main dining rooms and in Palo being both friendly and highly competent. It was a stark contrast to most of the CMs I encountered in WDW earlier in my trip, who often seemed overwhelmed by the late October crowds, especially at Food & Wine.

The food on the Magic was also a very pleasant surprise. Other than a filet at Palo that didn't quite measure up (come to think of it, the chef's response was also somewhat less than I'd expected, but it wasn't a substantial blemish on the sailing as a whole), the food I had was excellent, and well above par in relation to comparable WDW restaurants. In particular, I loved the South American menu at Carioca's -- and probably tried a third of the offerings. For those with a sweet tooth, do not miss the (non-alcoholic) cocktail named after Panchito, or the signature ice cream sundae -- probably the best Disney sundae I've ever had.

I hope DCL keeps Carioca's menu around, but I suspect its relatively "exotic" nature will lead it to be genericized sooner rather than later.

Probably the biggest surprise to me was the high quality of the live shows. Dreams was amazing, and Walt Disney: The Dream Goes On and Twice Charmed weren't far behind.
hurray.gif
To be honest, I thought the caliber of the performers and the quality of the sets and effects were noticeably higher than those of any live show at WDW (or DL, for that matter).

And the new Drawn to Magic show at Animator's Palate -- which included sketches from the yet-to-be-released Frozen -- encompassed a large number of movies from Disney's long history in animation. It made me realize just how many memorable stories, characters, and songs the Disney company has introduced to the world over the years -- and I felt a twinge of sadness when I thought of the recent trend of the company's focus on acquiring IP (Marvel, Star Wars) rather than wholly generating it.

I'm generally a pretty demanding consumer when it comes to Disney, and I was surprised at how positive my Magic cruise was -- I even booked a future cruise while I was still onboard. But the extent to which I was impressed by DCL was a bit of a double-edged sword: it rekindled my faith in Disney as a company that can still put out product of the highest quality, but it harshly reminded me of just how little the company cares about its supposed "flagship" resort. The difference between WDW and DCL is like night and day. I strongly suspect that far more of my time (and money) will be spent on the latter in the upcoming years...

(And your seeing a fox in urban Miami doesn't surprise me... there's plenty of amazing wildlife in South Florida. I saw a flock of flamingos in flight in Miami on the last day of my trip... it was a wonderful and perfectly appropriate way to cap off a visit with a couple of very good friends.)

Wadjda is what Brave wanted to be without the meddling of a certain Hawaiian shirt wearing individual.
Funny that Prince Alaweed Bin Talal, large DIS and ED SCA shareholder, partially financed it.

Final thought (although @Kuhio has some interesting points I'd like to comment on since it seems like we were on the same sailing) while it is on my my mind: Meet the Robinsons is better than the last two widely raved about animated features put out by WDFA.

If you were also on the Halloween sailing of the Magic, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the Halloween festivities. Personally, I was hoping there would be more, but I suppose DCL saved the really good stuff for the special Dream sailings.

I was impressed, however, by how many guests were dressed up for the holiday. I was particularly amused by the creativity of some of the adult costumes. I saw one guy who was apparently dressed as some sort of overzealous Disney fanboy -- decked head to toe in Disney attire; wearing a lanyard festooned with pins; and carrying around both a Vinylmation and some sort of flashing, light-up toy.

... at least I hope that was a costume!
