Spirited News & Observations II -- NGE/Baxter

Lance isn't the only one that has heard that rumor recently. That is the most recent placement for the "impossible IP". But I have also heard about a full blown "Skull Island" for the area.

If they rethemed Toon Lagoon, would they keep Popeye/Dudley and just retheme them?

It would be a shame to lose those two attractions...

Yes, but it's just an attraction issue. Not a whole land issue. i just love the theming of The Lost Continent and I love how it is not based on an IP. And plus, The Lost Continent has Mythos. I like Mythos. I like the cream of mushroom soup at Mythos.

I love Mythos.

Still never been to Mythos (looking to correct that next trip), but I wonder if they could add Mythos to Port of Entry?

All they would have to do is have a boat take you to Mythos over the water, and just block the view of Mythos from the rest of The Lost Continent area.

That meh walkthrough has entertained me many times through the years. It is a bit cheesy, but that is one of the things I love.

We still haven't done Sinbad/Poseidon - that's going to be corrected this time as well (should be staying onsite so should get FOTLP so will be able to have time to do them this time around)

I enjoy Poseidon, but not Sinbad. TPI gives them both a 6/10, so I guess I'm an outlier thinking of them differently.

I give Poseidon an "ok." But the wait for it is overly long and the cheesiness of it kind of gets to me. I wish it had another attraction within that amazing looking temple. And obviously know Dragon Challenge got hijacked by HP but the area just really needs something more.

Yeah, I've not heard particularly anything great about them, but, taking out the children's playgrounds/shows (Curious George, Barney, Stories They Tell, etc.), there are only about 12 things in IOA/USF that we haven't done (4 of which have been added since we were last there). They are Sinbad, Poseidon, Mystic Fountain (another non-major thing), High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride, Camp Jurassic, Beetlejuice, Animal Actors on Location, Horror Make-Up Show, Despicable Me, Cinematic Spectacular, Superstar Parade, Transformers. So, we're going to try to get as many of them does this time around as we can fit in.

We nearly did Poseidon last time, but we had just missed the start of it.

Not trusting that Toon Lagoon rumor...

It seems odd they'd retheme the rides in Toon Lagoon. Dated as the characters are, they serve their purpose. But stranger things have happened.

Having read an interview with Tolkein's son a couple months ago, I feel confident saying if there is a re-do, it won't be LotR.

Poseidon's Fury was a jaw dropper for me. I had no idea what it was other than a walkthrough, and as it progressed I got further and further into disbelief. Some neat effects like the water tunnel, but holy crap - what a bizarro clusterfluff. No one in my party had words afterward for some time.

If the replacement for Toon Lagoon gets the green light you can expect almost nothing that is currently there to remain. Along with major work done to the lagoon.

including the water rides?

That's ashame.. they are some of the best water rides out there. Unfortunately they probably aren't that popular all the time because they are so water-soaking-extreme. They'd do well in a water park :)

Haha. Clusterfluff. Forgive me but I might steal that word, lol. But yeah, neat effects... Weird story. I think if they reshot the video at the end so the video looks updated it could be a bit better.

It is an amazing walk-thru show. It is however very dependent on a good cast to carry and act out the story. For a while they shut off the water tunnel effect which was a bummer because it is quite cool walking through it.

It would be a shame if Popeye and Dudley were removed...
It wouldn't be a shame if Popeye and Dudley could temporarily be removed from about November to March.

Brrrr .....

We were at Universal in mid-March and log after log was coming down empty at Dudley so I know we're not the only ones who feel the same way.:)

Well that's not good!

It would be a shame if Popeye and Dudley were removed...
Aww man, I totally agree. Those two are some of the best water rides in Orlando. I could care less if the rest of toon lagoon goes but that would be sad if they got rid of those. Would seem a poor choice to me. If that had to happen, Id rather just see some sort of retheme for both.

Our next trip is going to be in November/December, so that's going to be fun... ;)
Luckily, we should be onsite for a night so we could go back to the room to get changed (if they're even open).

I'm looking on Google Maps, and the boundaries of Dudley are easy to see, but the Popeye route isn't. Just wondering how much land would be available for expansion without removing the rides...

I would hope that they would reconsider and just retheme the rides...

Yeah, I was thinking about the rest of Toon Lagoon, and, although getting your picture taken in the various places (Marmaduke, speech bubbles in the air) are fun, it wouldn't bother me too much if they rethemed the entire area.

However, the removal of those two rides would not be good. But, it doesn't really seem that Universal care what fans think (Kongfrontation, BTTF, Jaws), so why wouldn't they remove Popeye/Dudley, in the pursuit of something "better"?

It's not like the theming on those two rides is particularly anything special (especially Dudley), paint the rockwork a more realistic colour, and swapping out the figurines could be a good start...
