SpectroMagic being prepped for return..

Took the Keys to the Kingdom tour yesterday....Spectro hasn't moved an inch since the last time I was back there over a year ago. Tinks float in the 11pm run of MSEP was MIA tonight. The parade opened with the train. On a side note, many of the parade performers look like they're just going thru the motions and the crowd reaction (for the last few nights) to the parade was almost one of indifference. It was really odd.

Might as well add a couple of other observations....

Audio on Small World was wacky on Tuesday night...seemed as though half the audio tracks were off (almost no childrens voices). It was so quiet, you could hear all the mechanics of the ride clicking, etc.... I almost let it go, but decided I'd mention it to a CM. The CM actually found an attraction manager for me to speak with. Long story, short, explained what I'd heard (or didn't hear) and explained that I was a musician with lots of work in the studio...blah, blah, blah....anyway, he seemed generally concerned, but I figured nothing would come of it. Well, surprise, surprise....rode again on Wednesday, and every track was loud and clear, and lighting and mechanical problems (from Tuesday) with both the english drummers and the ferris wheel were all fixed. Don't know if my comments made any difference in the outcome, but at least someone, somewhere, took a peek at the attraction overnight, and corrected the difficiencies.

Every Splash Mountain animatronic was working this evening, including the jumping brer rabbit (although, some of the mouth movements were almost undetectable). Still needs to go down for a huge rehab.

Mickey Thomas and Starship were great at the Flower Power concert tonight. For 62, he's still rockin, and unlike most of the older acts I've been seeing, his voice is still great.

Despite some wind, Illuminations was awesome, with every one of my favorite perimeter launches, firing. Didn't seem to have any missing pyro tonight. Volume of the soundtrack was way up.

Monorail Peach on the Epcot line was having issues tonight. It was running very slow. I was on the train behind it, and we had to keep stopping so we wouldn't catch up with it. As it was 9:45pm, I think they were just going to live with it until the Epcot line closed (at 10).

MuppetVision was a full house when I saw it today, and it seemed that every effect was in working order.

That's it for now....time for bed.

I do not see how Spectromagic is a legitimate competitor for this new night-time offering at Universal, especially if it hasn't been completely overhauled!!
Consider also that the streets are still JAM-PACKED each night at both 9pm and 11pm for the MSEP.

Nothing more than it is something they can point to and say "See...we have something 'new' too". As you can see from these boards, there are people anxious for Spectro to return. It is an extremely inexpensive marketing tool. Disney is not so much interested in competing with what Universal is doing - as much as they want to share headlines in the Orlando Sentinel - not have Universal have them all...

More or less spot on, it may not be the answer but it may turn out to be an answer

I say what I can. It's not a definite, but pointers are the clearest yet.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but what are you hearing?

I keep hearing two things:

1.) DLR has no desire to have the MSEP back and;
2.) Spectro will likely return in spiffed up fashion to coincide with the new daytime parade and the 'official' opening of 'New' Fantasyland in Fall 2013.

Spiffed is good. New would be better.

I do like the music.

Spectro music is always stuck in my head...if it ever isn't, I just pop the CD in (if in the car), or turn on the iPod. Patiently waiting it's return.

Does "Spiffed" mean less creepy clown dudes? Fewer masked serial killers would be magical!

I do like the music too. Damn, now it's stuck in my head. Thanks a lot!

That's a good question and I don't know what it really means.

Personally, I prefer MSEP because it just doesn't take itself as seriously as Spectro seems to.

But I wonder how much they'll do ... look at how absymal condition MSEP is in after it got 'spiffed' up three years ago in Anaheim.

This is what I keep hearing too. It makes much more sense and I'd rather have a spiffed up Spectro than a "2001-out-dated lackluster return" last-minute one. Yuck.

Agreed on the MSEP being less "Serious" than Spectro.
Care to elaborate on the abysmal condition? Looked good to me last week, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

I've yet to see it (since it's been back from SoCal) when it didn't have floats missing, dark or towed ... lights out on floats and/or performers/characters missing.

I've sort of given up on it ... I didn't attempt to view it in three MK nights two weeks ago and only caught glimpses as I sat near Aladdin's Spinner of Fanboi Derision while I enjoyed a free citrus swirl with friends, so don't know if it was OK that night.

But it's just time to retire it. If it were 1972 the Miami Dolphins would be undefeated and playing at the Orange Bowl ... where a MLB opener is being held in a domed stadium in less than 24 hours.

Times have changed.

TDR EP Dreamlights is everything MK needs so badly ... and even though it's only a little over a decade old, it just had its THIRD major rehab where old floats were replaced with new ones.

You'd think they could stop the old parade swaperoo at WDW by now.
