LOL! "We should all lower our expectations" should be the new slogan around this message board. Rather than admitting Disney is wrong and that we all need to stop giving Disney money just lower your expectations and keep giving disney more and more money therefore rewarding lower standards.

Then please stay away. I will continue to go and enjoy WDW. Thankfully complainers and haters like you will be forever gone. Please, do us all a favor and stay away. Universal and SeaWorld are right down the road. Gatorland and Holy Land Experience are also places you should go check out since DIsney can not do ANYTHING at all right anymore.

Let's see how it turns out. It is sucks, then we ALL have the right to complain. If you don't like it (and I dare say your mind is already made up so you won't), then complain. But don't complain when you don't even know what is really getting done and how it will turn out. You, WE, may be pleasantly suprised. I may be disappointed like the rest of you that we aren't getting a major refurb, but, I am going to give it a chance once it opens, then judge.

Oh I'll give it a chance. I was shaking in my boots when HM went under the knife after what they did to Pirates. But the HM refurb turned the ride into my favorite WDW attraction. If the SM one is in the ball park I'll be happy. But from everything I've heard, I'm worried. Very worried.

If you dont want to listen to me At least listen to Martin who is a very respected member here (and makes awsome videos about how awsome WDW USED TO BE!). But im sure its probably easier for yall to either ignore him or catagorize him as a "complainer"

Wow, now you try to turn everything wrong about you onto Martin. Wow. Just wow. Martin's posts are well received and excellent. I don;t read him HATING on the mouse like you do. He may tell us how much has been cut, and sure, he may not be happy about it, but, I don't read his comments as pure detest of WDW like you spew. You spew downright hatred. He comments on the status. I don't read him calling for everyone to stay away from WDW. I don't even remember him reading that he is no longer going. However, YOU DO.

Please, like others have requested, go away. You bring absolutely nothing to these boards.

I think worry is fine to feel. And I'm glad you'll give it a chance. Hopefully with an open mind. But, here is something I think we'll agree on: THANKFULLY THEY DIDN'T ADD EDDIE MURPHY TO THE MANSION!!!!

Okay, I have a huge problem with this post. A HUGE problem. I'm not speaking for Conundrum, because honestly he confuses me with his motives. But people like '74 and me are far from haters that do not enjoy WDW. Far from it. We love WDW.

We just want people to realize that it can be better. It can be so much more, and they can give you so much more than what you have been getting. We don't want people to not enjoy WDW. I go back to the World 3-4 times a year to work and play. I've seen a small bit of improvement on my last visit, but there still needs to be more progress.

And Disney does plenty right. Again, the HM refurb was spectacular. TSM is a ton of fun. AIE, as much as I hate its existence, is an entertaining show. Disneyland has gotten some terrific updates recently. DLP continues to get more, and more beautiful. Hong Kong is a great little park that, once the dispute with the local government is resolved, will get even better. It's the blatant neglect of WDW that has me riled up. It's supposed to be the number 1 vacation destination in the world, and it should be treated as such.

I'll weigh in on this....

Will the refurbed space mountain be better that what was there before? This is quite debatable but I am going to venture a yes. The queue while pretty cool had become a bit dated in my eyes and once you got out of the tunnel the queue was about as plain Jane and unimaginative as you can get. Any work to this area will be an improvement. I also feel the ride itself will be better. The old track was incredibly rough and loud. Based on the information from Martin and Lee this problem will be addressed and remedied.

Will the refurb be as good as it could have been? This is a resounding no but to be fair what refurb or attraction has ever lived up to what could have been. Even HM had some shortcomings.

I think the biggest issue that I have with the SM refurb is the budget and plans were there for a stellar refurb and it got axed simply because operations did not want it down for the time it would have taken to do it right.

Sir, hope you didn't think that was meant for you. It wasn't. I don't think you are a hater. I understand you want better. I get it from your posts. However, the one it was meant for is a hater. Sorry if you took offense thinking I meant you. Not at all.

Ah I see, I apologize also. I hope I didn't come off as angry or anything. it just irks me that some people see someone who is negative, and automatically brands them as "hating Disney."

Yoda, great post. Shouldn't expect anything less from a jedi master.

Nah. I been negative too. I can separate negativity from hatred. Your posts are thought provoking. I would love WDW to be "better" and we should, as fans, hold them to the standard that they hold themselves. I have no issues with that. But what Conumdrum does it simply hate for the sake of hating.

Please, by all means, express your frustration, just like the rest of us do. But, before we judge a refurb as a total failure, I think we need to give it an open minded chance once it reopens. Then, if you, or others, deem it lackluster, by all means, open season on Guest Services and Disney management.

Too many times have I crucified something Disney did, only to eat crow later on.

Who is going to be a new Sponsor of the new Space Mountain!

Most likely no one. Disney is doing the refurb under their own budget which is one reson we are getting what we are getting. If there was another company on board we would have heard about it already.

I've tried. But after seeing Martin say, "The refurb was better under Eisner." I've pretty much lost my hope.
Surprisingly, yes. That was back when a lot of cool things (audio, lots of visuals) were still in place.

The ride will be far better than it was when it reopens. Not as good as it could have been, but better than it was and almost was going to be. There again, this is a good time to remind everyone to look at any attraction from what was proposed to how it ended up and you`ll see cuts left right and center. Spaceship Earth. Imagination. Horizons. The Seas. Rock n Rollercoaster. And yes, even Space Mountain. All highly regarded, but all smaller than the original plans.

...Martin who is a very respected member here (and makes awsome videos about how awsome WDW USED TO BE!)
Why thank you. I also try to balance them out with what is good (most of the time) today too :D

What separated Siemens from the project?

Seriously!? We should LOWER our expectations? What is wrong with you people? Disney used to be about giving us the best ride experiences they could possibly give us. In no way should we be lowering our expectations for them, they should be raising to their own standards for us.

*Looks at avatar, shakes head*

:brick:
Or at least keeping up with themselves. Keeping attractions in good order, maintenance, upkeep...Not just fixing it because it needs to be fixed. That's what this refurb feels like, to be honest.

This rehab was being planned over 4 years ago. Since then it has been toned down an awful lot - by the TDO of today, not the regiment of yesterday.

If anything the version under Eisner was better.
I never really got the Eisner hate...Ah, my lurker days.

I agree in full here.:) Well done.

After my recent trip to Disneyland/Six Flags Magic Mountain I made a post on my blog that listed my rankings of heavily themed, lightly themed, and unthemed coasters that I've experienced. I haven't been to Six Flags Great America or Cedar Point, but I feel that I've been on most, if not all of the coasters in this country that I would consider heavily themed. With that said, this is the quote from my blog (which is by no means censored, so read at your own risk):

Best Heavily Themed Coaster: Space Mountain (Disneyland, Anaheim, CA). This classic indoor roller coaster welcomed its much needed refurbishment as improved effects and a fantastic musical score makes this the best themed coaster. Space Mountain doesn’t rely on large drops or inversions to generate its thrills. They’re generated by the special effects, soundtrack, and the appearance of speed. Others that received consideration were Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, both versions of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Disneyland and Magic Kingdom), both versions of The Mummy (Universal Florida and Hollywood), and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom (In Orlando) and the Matterhorn in Disneyland did not receive consideration.

Perhaps it's the huge disparity between the two, but I don't consider Space Mountain (in Disney World) a top notch themed coaster any more. I would probably put it at the bottom, or right ahead of the Matterhorn. Any improvement would be welcome, but the most glaring need is to quiet the ride and smooth the track. That would probably bring it up to the caliber of Big Thunder Mountain. It will take improved effects and/or onboard audio for it to even approach Disneyland's version.

The more time goes by, the more SM just becomes a coaster in a building to me.:(

Hopefully this refurb fixes that...
