Space Moutain Opening!!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I agree that I'd rather have it be done right rather than fast, but, let's face it: it'll STILL be awesome! I thought the ride was great even before the refurb. While I'd like a BIG refurb, I'm not going to complain as long as it's no worse than it was last time I went on it.

I don't think I'll be disappointed since we all know it really needs some updating. I can't stand the moving walkway with the video cameras, it's like walking though wal-marts video camera department.
Yes it was, used to be very cool when I was a kid space mountain was by RCA seeing your self on TV in the 70s was cool.Someday we would all have hand held video cameras that sounded crazy.I hope that thing gets gutted and redone and the dog finally gets some food.

So true. People would complain about how WDW kept delaying the refurb, now that its happening, people want to complain about how its not going to be good enough, when the finished date is months away.

It isn't good enough.

How often do you go to WDW? I'm guessing not very often?

Are you willing to pay high ticket prices for bad products?

It's all about value and Disney FAILS to provide value for the price they are charging. I'd be fine with an increase in ticket prices if we are paying for a Tokyo Disney or 70s/80s WDW level experince. We are currently not getting that.

We go four times a year ,Ive gone evey year since December 1971 and I still see the value.I feel the rides are better today then they where in the 70s.With inflation and four parks Im happy.

If the track is smooth and the entry queue tunnel still has the magical "space" feel and the post show is decent I'll be happy.

Could it be that Disney's new strategy is to do minimal refurbs and then add elements, if necessary, to get the guest surveys up to a certain level? It's starting to seem that way.

I'm with Dsnygrl, my family goes a minimum of 4 times a year, and we still think it's a great value. It's a far cry from a "Six Flags" level experience to me, but hey, if that's your thing, the Big U is right up I-4, have a great time

As an engineer - these projects are planned YEARS in advance so the SM refurb was planned during the last days of the E(isner)vil Empire. It's probably been plussed to a good extent but the engineering is DONE. And since it was done under Pressler who belived the only moving part in WDW should be a cash register drawer.

What I think will happen is SM will probably get some upgrades which improve the show greatly It may use the same track layout but run the trains much faster. This would explain why adding weight to the cars was such a big deal as MOMENTUM = MASS times VELOCITY squared.

So even a slight increase in the weight of the cars significantly increases the loading on the track and bogies. The rumored sound projection system would make the ride much more reliable.

I think it will be good because the last park visit a bulb burned out and a few minutes later a maintenance CM came and replaced it. That kind of attention to detail was last seen in the 70's so I expect that this will continue.

I disagree with your thoughts on value. I can go to the best coaster park in the world (within a 40 minute drive) and I still choose to go to WDW for everything it is and everything it isn't.

If you are expecting a new attraction with a 'never-been-done-before' experience, you'll be disappointed... If you're expecting the current attraction with all new enhancements (see: The Haunted Mansion Refurb) then you won't be disaapointed..

Except, well, the HM refurb cost significantly more than the SM one. If Space turns out to be as good as HM, I'll be happy.

Sorry, but this isn't true at all. It's been documented that a huge portion of the refurb was cut recently, not when Pressler or Eisner were around.

Searching before posting is man's best friend..

I thought the purpose of this forum was to grow it by encouraging newcomers to post, not chastising them for unintentional breaches of this "law of forum etiquette" :veryconfu

Sorry...on a lighter note - Space Mountain has been the only coaster that I have consistently had neck pain after riding. I always felt sort of jolted around as opposed to Rockin Rollercoaster or Everest. I can't wait to experience the new track! :sohappy:

Oh ok. So you have a crystal ball and can see in the future and see that the newly redone SM is "not good enough." How do you know that? You can also say, "Well, how do you know it will be good enough." I dont, but I'll atleast stay optimistic about it and form my opinion about it after I've seen it. And if what WDW is offering right now is, "not good enough" to you, then why waste money and go? FYI, I go up to 6 or 7 times a year, a little less this year since SM is closed and I dont want to be there when its down. But I keep going back because I enjoy going. If and or when I start to see things I dont like, or disney becames less magical, or "not good enough" to me. Then I'd stop vacationing there and go somewhere else. It's that simple.

I love coming to this site just to hear which new goofy theory you come up with daily to justify Disney's decisions

Space Mountain is getting a minimal refurb for two reasons and two reasons alone:

#1) They didn't feel there was a need to spend the money. Guests don't know any better and as long as it "does the job" they have no desire or incentive to create a truely great show experince for guests.

#2) TDO's argument is that they can't keep there attractions closed for long because "THE GUESTS WILL COMPLAIN"

And for those of you who go 4 times a year and say its great value. You are absoluetly entitled to your opinions but I just want you to know that you are the ones causing the problem. If you truely care about Disney you will cut back. Save your money, invest it, and tell Disney you will only go back when they restore there former standards or switch to a Tokyo Disney business model. You'll be doing us all a favor.

Just remember the only reason DCA is getting any love right now is because the people of California and tourists of good taste everywhere voted with their wallets and opted not to visit!
